Life is fragile and can end in a mere moment, I was forced into this realization as the large truck slid toward my vehicle. I was just going to the movie theater, probably should have checked the weather. The roads were coated in thick ice. The last thing I hear are my own screams.
"AAAAAAHHHH."
I awoke scremaing. After a moment I got my heavy breathing and thoughts back under control. I laid back in my bed. That nightmare again, of the life I had before. A life of averageness, no noteworthy achievements, other than staying relatively in shape. One that I am repeating in a world where being average is difficult, one with powers beyond my comprehension. Especially since I never finished the damn show, which I never thought would come back to bite me. My new family is nice though, and average just the way I like it. I'm already half way through my second year of high school, further proving the fact that not watching the show would bite me. I have absolutely no idea when the story is even supposed to start. I'm obviously not the same age as the main cast so might as well forget about that.
Not that I could've helped with the quirk I was born with. When active I can see souls. The name I gave it was Sight, the doctors thought I could just see people through walls, because that's what I told them. But I can see peoples souls. If I told them I saw people that weren't there they might think I was a crazy man.
I can see bright outlines of every person within 500 meters, even through walls. Doesn't matter if they're dead or alive. what does matter is if they have/had quirks or not, and how far they are. I guess I can't see anyone's soul that didn't have a quirk or doesn't right now, which is very odd. When my quirk is active my eyes also glow a bright white. This quirk while well suited for a rescue hero, just didn't make the cut in any of the big hero schools. So here I am getting ready to go to "normal", boring high school in Musutafu to relearn everything I already know, but this time in Japanese.
I can see my mom's soul marching down the hall to my room. She probably heard me scream.
Peaking her head in through the door, she spoke in a concerned tone.
"You okay?"
"Yeah just a nightmare." My tone was flat and she seemed to believe me. Little does she know I just relived the most traumatizing event in any humans life, their own death.
"Well you better get ready quick, it's already 7:15." She said as she walked into the messy room. She grabbed some of the loose clothes on the floor.
"I think I might lay here a little while lon-" *cough/gag* she threw a sock in his mouth.
"That's disgusting, why would you do that?!"
"You have less than an hour to get to school and the teachers are gonna start cutting your grades if you keep showing up late, now get your lazy ass up." She then left with an arm full of dirty clothes.
With deep sigh i sit up and rub a spot on my left arm, where it was removed from my body all those years ago. I stand up and shuffle across the hall to the bathroom.
After a quick shower I look at myself in the mirror, nothing like how I looked before. Now I'm tall (for japan), with medium length black hair, and a skinny build. I used to be an average height blonde guy with a descent bit of muscle. Gaining muscle just seemes harder in this body, I'm not a string bean but I wish I had a bit more weight on these bones. I should probably get a haircut soon. After that I put on the simple uniform and out into the kitchen where a cold breakfast awaits.
With a grimace I decide im not hungry. "I'm leaving." Mom yelled something I didn't hear because I closed the door. My dad is always at work early and comes home late, where he almost always falls asleep instantly.
About 5 minutes into my 15 minute walk a very familiar feeling of souls passing through me got me interested, especially with the sheer number I could feel. I simply couldnt resist and activated my quirk, causing my eyes to glow bright white. I saw a lot of the dead moving past me, back where I just came and beyond my house further into the city, something pretty cool must be happening, maybe a villain attack. I have never seen this many souls on the move before. I see a recognizable soul in the pack and call out to her.
"Shiba what's going on?" Shiba is a young soul i met near my house who died in her bed from some rare brain disease. She turned to speak but couldn't be bothered to stop moving.
"There's a soul that traveled here from outside of japan!"
What? I've never heard of something like that. Even the most powerful of quirk users souls I've talked with said they can't move all that far from the spot they died. This means I have two paths to walk down, the one to school or one to a really interesting situation downtown. The answer is easy.
"You'll have to tell me about it later ok!" I was not gonna skip school and go downtown, mom would ring my neck if she found out. Going there after school however is still very much on the table. I look across the street to see a man and a kid looking at me like a crazy man, I was yelling at nothing to them so I understand. After making eye contact they quickly looked away and speed walked away, he probably thought I was on something. Sigh* time to walk on to a boring school, with a bunch of odd kids.
----
As I walked through a tall gate into the courtyard I heard a commotion to my left, where three kids were beating the crap out of a smaller skinny kid. Poor guy never stood a chance, and I sure ain't getting a split lip for his sake. All I can do is wince and act like I didn't see anything as the kid gets stomped. There is a surprising amount of bullying in japan, especially since they can kick down on the kids with shit quirks now. But even if there's more bullying in this world this school has more then the average from what I understand. I hurry up to my class, and luckily I wasn't last, the last person always gets chewed out by the teachers. Mrs. Hiromi is a cow sometimes.
When I sit down I realize today will be a quiet day. Most days a group of souls follows me around, asking questions and poking and prodding trying to talk with me, I am the only living person that can talk to them after all. But now something is distracting them all and I can have a peaceful day of school.
*BANG*The door shot open and a large lady walked in, with a kid named Fumio right behind her. Fumio was the kid I saw getting jumped when I walked in. "WHO DID THIS!?" The teachers wailing was almost loud enough to make me cover my ears. I hadn't noticed but the group of kids that beat Fumio walked in behind me, and were snickering and laughing under their breath. Every moment no one said anything made her face redder and more scrunched with anger. The only noise in the room was the quiet laughs and snorts in the corner she clearly couldn't hear over her own huffing and puffing, and the uncomfortable shuffling of people in their seats.
"I WILL GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS, AND WHEN I DO THERE WILL BE HELL TO PAY!" She then stormed out the room with Fumio following after her probably going to the nurse, or maybe the hospital.
The class rep, a girl named Natsuko with long fiery orange hair, stood up and walked to the front of the class to adress us. Her quirk is called conducter I believe, she can heat her skin up like it's a conductive piece of metal. Some kids even say she can make her skin glow red with heat, but those are rumors. I wonder if she's ever tried cooking with her quirk?
The kid seated on my left leaned over and whispered
"Katashi hurt him pretty bad this time, you'd think he'd get bored of it by now."
This is Makoto, the only guy I could call a friend, all my other classmates think I'm a freak cause I stare off at things they can't see, and sometimes have to whisper at the spirits to quiet them down. They also don't talk with him cause it's hard for most people to notice he's there. He's a shorter guy with short dark blue hair, his quirk makes him harder to see, it's like your brain pushes his presence aside. But not with me. his soul is a unique color, so while others overlook him, like he's not there, to me he sticks out among the others.
"Maybe he has some personal vendetta against him, or likes seeing him squirm like a psycho?"
"Ahem* are we done talking?" I looked up fully expecting her and the rest of the class to be looking at us but she was glaring at the kids in the corner, with one eye burning red and the other a simmering orange. "We're in our second year of high school and still acting like 10 year olds?"
She's going for the high risk rage bait method, wouldn't be my first choice with that psycho.
He scowled at the girl in the front who now had a small smirk." Do you think your all high and mighty standing in front of the whole class pointing fingers?" "You still have blood on your hand." He glanced at his clawed hand and saw slight tints of red, even though he washed his hands before coming in. Realizing he'd been caught he resorted to what usually worked for him, threats of violence. But I saw the principle coming down the hall 30 seconds ago, so I knew it was over for him.
"I'll gut you bi-" "You will do nothing." The low rumbling voice of the large yak headed principle came through the open door. He had to lower his body to fit his horned head into the room.
"Katashi to my office now." The kid shrunk down at the sight of authority and walked quietly out of the class. "I apologize to you all for allowing this kind of behavior in my school." He said before leaving, and letting the teacher back in who looked relieved the situation was dealt with. She waved Natsuko back to her desk and sat down in front of the class to begin attendance.
"That sounded like the principle might expel katashi didn't it?" He heard from his left.
"Hopefully, last time he got a slap on the wris-" "Masaaki?" He straightened up in his seat."here."
"Not late, that's surprising."
Tsch, this lady is really missing me off, which must have showed on my face. "Got a problem?" "nope" "hmm" she hummed at my response.
"What did you do to get on Hiromi-senseis bad side?"
"I was late a few times to her "sacred class."
"Everyone has been late a few times she just hates you by the looks of it."
The only response I had for him was a shrug.
I have no idea why she dislikes me so much, maybe she knows I'm a coward, and watched that kid get hurt. I may never know, which I'm okay with.
He glanced to the side to look at the two worthless thugs that followed Katashi around like lost puppy's. I couldn't think of a lower existence than that at the moment. They looked nervous, the reason being the intimidating glare of a girl almost glowing orange and red, and a few of her friends. I'd be shitting bricks if I was them to, katashi had a slap handprint burned into his cheek for weeks last time. That was just the wrath of one of the 4 girls, truly terrifying.
The school I'm attending has a reputation for accepting people who just barely flunked out of the ua entrance exams, which is why everyone here is so strong for a "normal" high school.
After the very eventful morning nothing else happened, until lunch when apparently the group of girls from the morning lead by Natsuko found katashis little friends hiding away.
Hiromi-sensei was talking about something rather boring, so I tuned her out and activated my quirk, trying to find any souls nearby. Outside he saw Shiba waiting for him at the gate.
RING!RING!
The bell rang and everyone stood up ignoring Hiromi-sensei telling them to sit until she dismisses them.
Masaaki and Makoto were walking down the stairs talking about a new movie that had just come out.
"I heard it's based on a true story, crazy to think something like that really happened huh."
They reached the gate, and Masaaki waved off Makoto.
"See you next week."
Then he moved his now glowing eyes to the gate where Fumio has been waiting.
"So what's this traveler like?"
"Pretty cool, but when we told him of a person that can see and speak with us he seemed like he really wanted to talk. All he did was ask questions about you."
"That's not weird at all, definitely doesnt make me anxious about this at all."
Masaakis eye twitched as he heard the not so quiet whispers of the group of high schoolers behind him. "What a weirdo." "Is he talking to a wall?" He didn't let it bother him too much and began walking behind the ghost girl.
A pair of curious eyes among the many judgmental watched the glowing white eyed kid walk away.
———
The walk took us farther than i expected, I could see the moon cresting over the city skyline. The place Fumio was leading me to almost felt like a trap. The buildings becoming abandoned dumps the farther they got. He looked down at his phone and saw his mom was calling, he didnt answer. She stopped in front of a nicer looking abandoned building. Still a dump.
He almost had to squint at the bright white shine the soul inside gave off. As he stepped inside he noticed Fumio had stopped.
"You not coming in with me?"
"N-nope." She sounded nervous, not sure what a dead person has to fear.
The stairs up to the man's soul creaked and bent with every step but they weren't weak enough to break just yet. He had to climb up to the third floor and walk through a dark and long hallway before he was face to face with the soul of the unknown traveler. He was muscular and wearing what looked like armor. He sat in what remained of a recliner chair, with his long whispy hair flowing down. Right above his head the moon shined through the window illuminating the room. It was shining down on him, making him almost glow. His gaze felt like he could see the very essence of my being. Neither one of us spoke, the silence was uncomfortable and long. I decided it was time to break the silence.
"Who are yo-"
"Such a fascinating quirk."
My eye twitched, not only did he interrupt me after all that he didn't even answer my question.
"And to be so weak with such a quirk, how disappointing."
The irritation now overflowing into my face made him smirk.
"What in the world are you talking about? My quirk is weak."
"You seem to be missing a very large aspect of your own quirk, let me enlighten you." He raised his right hand from the armrest, and was right in front of me in an instant. Even i though i was watching him the whole time. The hand he raised landing on my shoulder.
"AAAAAAAAHHHHH!" The second his hand touched me my shoulder exploded in pain. The pain traveled quickly through my entire body. The pain was too much and my vision started closing in while I fell to my knees. For just a moment I try to brute force my way through it, flailing and rolling around the disgusting floor. Ive never felt such pain even when i died it wasnt this torturous. I passed out. Before I went unconscious I heard him speak.
"You will know the strength of the moon."

First chapter ever. Hopefully it isn't too bad.
