Chapter 11 - chapter 11:The Child in the Mirror

The night was silent, but there was a noise inside Aarav. The kind of noise that comes from memories, not ears.

Even after closing the diary, his hands trembled for a while, as if the words were still stuck in his fingers.

Aarav stood by the window. The streetlights flickered on below. People were walking by, lives were moving on.

And he suddenly realized—he wasn't just moving forward, he was also going backward. There was a mirror in front of him. Aarav looked at himself—the same face, the same eyes.

But today the mirror was showing him not a teacher, but a child. The child who once sat quietly in the corner of the classroom. He remembered his school—the old building, the broken benches, and the same fear every day:

What if I'm asked a question today? The memory of that day suddenly became very clear. The teacher had called his full name. Aarav had stood, but no sound had come out.

Laughter had echoed through the class. And the teacher had said, "What will someone who cannot speak do next?"That day Aarav had promised himself – never to a child

I won't let you be silenced like this.' And today that promise stood before him.

Suddenly, the phone rang. Ananya's name flashed on the screen.

Aarav held off for a few moments, as if afraid he'd break his voice if he spoke."Aarav?" a soft voice came from the other side. "Are you okay?"Aarav took a deep breath. "I don't know," he said truthfully.

Ananya remained silent for a few moments, then said, "Sometimes it is okay not to be okay."Hearing this, Aarav's eyes filled with tears.

"Today I thought I was standing up for the children," Aarav said, "but the truth is, I was standing up for the old me I once saw.""Maybe that's why you're right," Ananya said softly.

After the phone call hung up, the room grew quieter. Aarav sat down on the bed. As he closed his eyes, the same student appeared before him—the same fear, the same silence.

And a voice rose from within: "If you remain silent now, how are you different?"

Aarav opened his eyes. There were no tears in his eyes now, only a firm resolve. The next morning, he went to school not just as a teacher.

He took his past with him, so that no other child's today would be like his yesterday. In the morning, he woke earlier than usual. He was completely asleep, but his mind was still awake.

There was no confusion within him today—just a clear understanding that there was no escaping what had happened. As soon as he arrived at school, he realized that today was different.

There was no invisible tension in the air, but rather a sense of anticipation—as if something were about to happen. In first grade, Aarav didn't open his book. The children were surprised.

Aarav said softly, "Today I'm not here to teach you anything, but to tell you something."The class became very quiet."When I was your age," Aarav said, "I used to sit here like this too.

I would read, I would understand, but I couldn't speak."

Some children suddenly sat up straight."I felt that if I spoke, I would say the wrong thing.

And speaking the wrong thing is the biggest crime."One day he was asked a question. He knew the answer, but his voice deserted him.

That day he learned—it's safer to remain silent."But today," Aarav said, "I want to tell you something else. Speaking the wrong word isn't wrong.

Trying isn't weakness."The same student who had been sitting in the back out of fear slowly raises his hand. "Sir, what if you're still afraid of me?"Aarav smiled. "So speak with fear.

Courage doesn't come before fear."The bell rang, but no one was in a hurry. It was the same classroom, but now there was no silence—there was a willingness to listen.

Ananya stood outside during the break. "What you did wasn't easy."

"But it was necessary," Aarav said. After that day, things changed.

The children began to speak. Mistakes were made, but they didn't laugh—they thought.A little girl said, "Sir, I can never speak at home." Aarav said, "This place is yours. You can speak as much as you want.

"Meetings were held, questions were raised, and objections were raised. But one mother said, "My son first said he was afraid... and then he said he wanted to try.

"Everything stopped there.Ultimately, the decision came: Aarav would stay, and he would now be a mentor to children who are afraid to speak up.It wasn't a job.

It was an honor."Returning to the class, a child asked, "Sir, will you come tomorrow also?"Aarav said confidently, "Yes. Every day now.

"Standing in front of the mirror in the evening, Aarav said to himself-

"I don't run from myself anymore."The mirror remained silent.Because today Aarav, after all, was standing in front of him.

The mirror still hung on the wall, but the man standing before it wasn't the same man who'd always avoided his gaze. Today, for the first time, Aarav was able to see himself without fear.

Morning light streamed in through the window, awakening something not just the room but within Aarav.Today his eyes were open not because of sleep but because of determination and there was a strange stability in his heart.

He buttoned his shirt, adjusted the collar, and took a deep breath, as if reminding himself that he was ready. This breath wasn't ordinary; it was a sigh of relief, a release from the burden of years past, leaving her chest feeling light.

A faint scent of tea wafted from the kitchen, and with that scent, a sense of belonging permeated the house.

Ananya was already awake and without looking back she said that something seemed different today.

Aarav smiled and said that because today he is not going with fear.Ananya fell silent and after a few moments she said softly,

This is the first time she has seen Aarav so light.Aarav sat on the chair and said that he is not light, but he is able to lift himself today.

On the way to school, everything was the same as before – the same roads, the same shops, the same noise.

But something completely new had been born within Aarav, which he himself was clearly feeling.

The school gate did not seem strange to him today, as if this place recognized him and was accepting him.

Some faces in the staff room stopped at the sight of him, some smiled and some turned away.

Aarav no longer lowered his gaze, he was looking at everyone calmly and equally.A teacher came to him and said softly that he had made a mistake.

Aarav did not say anything, just nodded because sometimes forgiveness is not complete with words but with acceptance. As soon as he entered the first class, there was silence and the children started looking at him attentively.

Today there was no fear in his eyes, rather there was a wait for some answer.Aarav stood in front of the blackboard and remained silent for a few moments without writing anything.

Then he said softly that there was a question before the study and the whole room became alert. He asked if someone is weak if they remain silent every day.

A child stood up and said, no sir, sometimes he is very strong.Aarav's eyes filled with tears because for the first time someone had understood his past.

He said that you were right, because it is not easy to remain silent and that day not only books were opened in the class, hearts were also opened.

In the evening, the sun was bidding farewell to the school windows and Aarav was standing alone in the corridor.Today he was not feeling lonely because now he was standing with himself.

He took out his phone and read Ananya's message asking how the first day was.Aarav wrote in reply that today he taught himself and not anyone else.

This was just the beginning because there was much more to be revealed – some secrets, some wounds and some decisions that would change everything.

Evening was falling and the school premises were emptying, but the day was not over for Aarav.

He stood under the old banyan tree where he once stood as a student, fearful.Today the same place was looking at him like a test.

The wind was stirring the leaves, and in their rustling she could hear the voices of her old questions. A voice came from behind, and it was the same boy who had been there that afternoon.I cried.

She said, "We're all not like you," and Aarav understood that this wasn't a complaint, but an admission. There was no wall between two generations in that moment, just two people.Were.

While returning home, Aarav felt heavy hearted because today he was not just a teacher. He had become someone's first source of support, and that was what was scaring him.

Upon reaching home, Ananya saw through his face and said that someone's story had stuck with him. Aarav said that today he understood how big and weighty the word "teacher" was.

The night grew darker and an unknown call came on the phone which awakened his past. The voice said that he is back and Aarav's

The fingers started trembling.Aarav could not sleep that night because he knew that this change would not be easy.

The past was about to surface and test his identity. The night had become even darker, the lights in the room were off but all the lights of the past had lit up inside Aarav.

That voice kept echoing in his ears again and again – "I am back."
