Chapter 15 - Chapter 15 "The Last Page of the Diary"

It's two past seventeen in the night. The lights in the room were off, only the faint moonlight coming from the window was falling on the old diary kept on the table.

Aarav was sitting on the edge of the bed, holding the same diary in his hands – the same diary that he had found in the school storeroom… and which had his mother's handwriting.

He turned the page. Some words were repeatedly underlined."faith...""Danger...""The enemy within...""The truth comes out at the right time..."Aarav's fingers trembled."Mom...why did you write all this?"

he muttered.Just then, his phone started vibrating. The name Ananya flashed on the screen.

He immediately picked up the call."Hello?"There was silence for a few moments on the other side, then a slow, nervous voice came—"Aarav... I feel like someone is following me..."Aarav's heart skipped a beat.

"Where are you?""Outside the hostel... I just came out of the library....""Wait right there. I'll be right back."He closed the diary, put on his jacket and left the room without wasting a moment.

outside the hostelThe street was almost deserted. Ananya stood under a yellow streetlight. Fear was evident on her face.

Aarav reached him with quick steps."Who did you see?""I didn't see it... but I heard footsteps.

When I turned around, no one was there... but I still have the feeling..."Aarav looked around. Everything seemed normal, but there was a strange unease in the air."It might be an illusion," he said softly, but he himself didn't believe his words.

Ananya looked into his eyes and asked, "Could all this be because of Raghav?"Aarav's face became stern as soon as he heard Raghav's name.A childhood friend... then distance... and now a shadow surrounded by mysteries."I am here," Aarav said, holding her hand, "nothing will happen."

But somewhere deep inside, fear had taken hold.morning of 15th augustThe next day, Independence Day preparations were in full swing at school.

Children ran around in colorful clothes. The stage was set.But Aarav's attention was repeatedly going towards the diary. As soon as he woke up that morning, he read the penultimate page, where the date August 15th was circled.

Below it was written a line:"The one you trust the most will inflict the deepest wounds."His mind became restless. Was it just a coincidence that today is 15th August?face on stageThe programme began.

The Principal announced:"Now I invite our dear teacher Mr. Aarav Sharma."

There was applause.Aarav reached the stage. He stood in front of the microphone. He looked at the crowd—Ananya was sitting in the first row.

Seema Ma'am was a little behind. And in the corner of the field...A familiar face.Dressed in black, staring at him with steady eyes.Raghav .Aarav's throat went dry, but he controlled himself.

"Freedom isn't just about national borders," he began, "sometimes we have to free ourselves from our fears, our illusions, and our past..."Her eyes were repeatedly meeting Raghav's.

Just then a gust of wind came and a folded paper fell near the stage.

Aarav bent down and picked up the paper. It was written on it-"Tonight at 10. Old Bridge."Only one letter below-R His heart started beating fast.

Ananya came behind the stage."What is this?"Aarav silently handed him the paper."Don't go," Ananya said immediately.Aarav looked at him, "Running away now won't help."Night - Old BridgeThe clock struck ten.

The clock struck ten.The sky was overcast, and the sound of the water flowing beneath the bridge deepened the silence of the night.Aarav was standing alone.Soon, a figure emerged from the darkness.Raghav."Finally here," he said softly."Come straight to the point," Aarav said in a stern tone, "what do you want?"Raghav kept looking at him for a few moments, then said-"Truth.""Which truth?"Raghav took out a paper from his pocket and handed it to him."The truth about your mother's death."

Aarav's breath stopped."Stay within limits.""Do you think it was just an accident?" Raghav's voice was deep."Or... did someone make it an accident?

"Aarav took the paper with trembling hands. It was a copy of the police report. One line caught his attention:"Suspicion of tampering with the brake system.

"His eyes widened."that's a lie...""The truth is not always revealed," Raghav said, "Some truths are hidden… so that no one asks questions.""Who would do such a thing?" Aarav's voice choked.

Raghav didn't answer directly. He came closer and said in a low voice

spoke-"Read the last page of the diary. You will find the answer.""What do you mean?""You haven't even opened it yet.

"The wind became stronger.Raghav stepped back and said-"Remember, Aarav... the real enemy isn't always far away. Sometimes he's right there... where you believe the most.""Who?"

Aarav shouted.Raghav turned and said just one sentence while leaving."Don't trust Ananya blindly."And lost in darkness.

The silence of the night seemed no longer ordinary. That shadow in the darkness... and its voice... still lingered in the air.

Suddenly, a faint rattling sound was heard from the corridor at the back of the school.Ananya immediately whispered, "Aarav... someone is inside."Aarav's heart began to pound.

But this time, there was no fear on his face. There was a strange determination in his eyes."The truth will not go unrevealed today," he said in a low but firm voice. The two slowly began to move in the direction of the sound.

The dim light from the tubelights on the school walls cast long shadows on the ground. As they approached the store room... the door was half open.

The sound of pages turning was coming from inside.

Aarav pushed the door gently. The door opened with a creaking sound... and what he saw in front of him... left Aarav breathless. His old diary was lying open on the table.

And standing in front of him was... Raghav.facing the pastRaghav slowly raised his head. His eyes weren't filled with the same arrogance... but something else.Anger... jealousy... and a strange restlessness.

"You want to know the truth, don't you?" she said with a cold laugh.Ananya stepped forward, "Raghav, what is all this? You have this diary—""I didn't steal," Raghav interrupted.

"I'm just looking for... what's mine."Aarav's fists clenched. "Yours? What's yours in this?"Raghav picked up a page from the diary and read it aloud."If the truth ever comes out, many faces will be unmasked."He closed the diary."Do you even know, Aarav... what happened to your mother that day?"The air seemed to freeze upon hearing this.

Ananya immediately grabbed Aarav's hand. Aarav's eyes flashed with pain."If you say even one wrong word about my mother..." His voice was shaking, but filled with anger.Raghav slowly came closer to him."I will not lie. I will tell the truth.

Your mother's death…wasn't an accident."silence and truthThese words felt as if someone had placed a stone in Aarav's heart."Lies!" Aarav shouted. "This is all your trick!"Raghav said in a calm voice, "If it is a lie... then look at this.

"He took out an old file cover from his bag. It had the school logo on it.Ananya asked nervously, "What is this?"Raghav said, "A copy of the CCTV footage from that day. Someone had deleted it... but not completely."Aarav's eyes widened."How do you have this—"

"Because I was there that day too." Raghav's voice was hoarse now.

"And I saw things... that you never saw."the storm withinAarav's mind started spinning."Is it really...? Is his mother dead...?"No. That's impossible. His mother always used to say – "Never run away from the truth, no matter how bitter it is."Ananya said softly, "Aarav... listen first. Don't judge without listening.

"Raghav placed the file on the table."Tomorrow morning at 10am... in the old auditorium. I'll play this footage for everyone.

If you dare… then come."With that, he turned... and disappeared into the darkness.lonely truthOnly Aarav and Ananya were standing in the store room.Diary... file... and heavy silence.Aarav punched the wall. "Why? Why does the past always follow me?"Ananya looked at him. "Maybe because… because you're running from him.

"These words went straight into Aarav's heart. After a while, he picked up the file. His hands were shaking."What if this is true...?" he asked softly.

"Then we will face the truth. Together," Ananya said firmly.Aarav looked at him.For the first time... there was fear as well as hope on his face.

fear of new dawnThe night had become even darker. The school clock struck 12. Tomorrow morning at 10... the old auditorium... that's where it would be decided—was Mother's death an accident... or part of a conspiracy?

And is Raghav really the enemy... or a pawn in a larger game? Aarav looked up at the sky. "Mom... if there really is something hidden... it will be revealed tomorrow."

The wind made that strange rustling sound again. As if some invisible force was smiling. And in the distance... on the school roof... a shadow appeared again. He was not alone.
