KAYLA'S POV:
At school the next day…
Everyone was congratulating me, but I was distracted, staring at my hand, replaying yesterday's handshake and high-five in my mind.
Annie came up to me.
"So… a handshake, huh?"
I started blushing again and lightly patted her arm.
"Stop it… don't be such a tease."
"Okay, okay," she chuckled.
That's when the teacher walked into the classroom.
"So class, your exams are coming up. Write down the date sheet."
"What?! Date sheet?! Exams?!"
I was having a heart attack right now.
Was it really necessary to announce this now, sir?! My happiness turned into sadness in a second. Evil teachers.

After school,
I was going with Theo in his dad's car. I leaned closer and whispered to him,
"Are we going to your mom's grave?"
He shook his head and whispered back,
"My father hates my mom. He'd rather stay home all day than go to her grave. He didn't even attend her funeral."
"Ohhh…"
"Yeah…"
"Then where are we going?"
"No idea…"
We both glanced at his dad sitting in the front seat.
I leaned in and whispered again,
"Is he going to kill us?"
"Why would he do that?"
"Why wouldn't he? A stepdaughter who won't give him her hotel for business, and a real son who's completely useless."
He rolled his eyes, clearly not believing a word I said.
The car stopped in front of a fancy restaurant.
I whispered again,
"Is he going to sell our meat here?"
Theo rolled his eyes.
I continued whispering,
"What now? Why would your father bring us to a place like this? It's a waste of his time and money and he's a businessman. He never likes losses. So maybe he has some evil plan… like making us waiters here. I heard waiters in fancy restaurants get extra tips..."
"He won't," Theo cut in. "That would affect his reputation. The biggest businessman's children working as waiters?"
"Yeah, you're right," I said. "Then why are we here?"
"Let's see," Theo said as he opened the car door and stepped out.
I followed him.
Let's see if he eats with us… or eats us.
