Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Echoes of Betrayal

The storm had passed, the circle fractured, but whispers began to spread through Lumeria—whispers darker than doubt. Rumors claimed that one among the Zodiacs had invited the phantoms, that betrayal had seeded the chaos.

Cancer felt the weight of suspicion pressing on her heart. Scorpio's eyes burned with fury, his trust already fragile. The circle was breaking not only from pride, but from mistrust.

Leo strode into the square, his golden aura flaring. "Someone called the phantoms. They did not come by chance. Who among us opened the door?"

Aries scoffed, fire sparking in his eyes. "You accuse, but do you have proof?"

Leo's gaze swept the circle. "Proof will come. But I see shadows in Scorpio's eyes. He has always walked with darkness."

Cancer stepped forward, her voice trembling but firm. "No! He fought harder than any of us. His fire burned the phantoms away."

Scorpio's jaw tightened, his tone sharp. "Accuse me again, Leo, and you will see how fire answers pride."

Virgo spoke, her voice precise. "The phantoms fed on despair. Who among us carries despair deepest? Scorpio does. Perhaps they followed his wounds."

Cancer's tears shimmered. "Despair is not betrayal. His scars do not make him guilty."

Scorpio's voice was low, fierce. "If despair is a crime, then all of you are guilty. Each of you carries shadows."

Sagittarius strummed his guitar, his melody sharp. "Perhaps betrayal is not in shadows, but in silence. Who among us stayed quiet when the storm rose?"

Aquarius added, his gaze distant. "Perhaps betrayal is not one soul, but all of us. Pride, fear, division—each opened the door."

Libra's voice trembled. "Balance cannot exist if suspicion consumes us. We must seek truth, not blame."

That night, Cancer and Scorpio sat together at the pier. The waves whispered, carrying rumors like poison.

Cancer's voice broke. "They doubt you. They think you called the phantoms."

Scorpio's eyes burned. "Let them doubt. I have carried shadows all my life. But I will not carry betrayal. I fought for them, even when they spat on me."

Cancer reached for his hand, her tears falling. "Then let us prove them wrong. Not with words, but with truth. We will find the source together."

Scorpio's grip tightened, his voice steady. "Then we hunt the betrayal. And when we find it, the circle will see that love does not falter in shadows."

The stars shimmered faintly, as if listening. The circle was fractured, suspicion spreading like cracks in stone. But at its heart, Cancer and Scorpio stood together—fragile, yet unyielding, determined to prove that love could withstand even the echo of betrayal.
