Chapter 18 - Chapter 18 - U.A. Exam (1)

Jun was awake before his alarm even went off, lying there for five minutes before the day came calling.

Exam's today. I should be ready.

Jun slowly sat up, eyes fixed on his phone as he waited for it to ring.

Months of specialized training. Weapons, martial arts, and freerunning. Clones made it easy to focus on each one.

He flexed his hand, watching the muscles respond. Not to mention my years of effort and the quirks I've gained through bonding.

RING~RING~

His phone was silenced in the next second as he got up, stretching his back. "Wasn't the record 80 points or something?"

He rolled into the stretch, arms crossing over his chest. I think Deku and Bakugo scored the highest, though differently.

He leaned into one final stretch, extending a leg in front of him. Bakugo had pure villain points, meaning he had the speed and destruction power even before U.A training.

Do I?

He huffed as he grabbed his clothes, heading to the shower. No, I don't, at least not with destructive power.

One clone can be loaded with minor quirks, then there's me. Rescue points… that's how I'll get points mostly.

He disappeared into the bathroom, taking a quick shower, easing the rest of sleep stiffness from his body.

He slid on his shirt as he stepped out a few minutes later. "Whew, good shower." Then he took the stairs down two at a time.

"Mom! Is Toga awake?"

"I heard her alarm while you were in the shower, she's getting ready. Come have breakfast."

Jun slid into his chair. "I'm a little nervous about today."

His mother laughed. "You? Nervous? You usually have the confidence that rivals me or your father with things you've never done before."

"But this, Jun? You've been training since you were eleven."

He scratched his cheek. "When you say it like that, I sound kinda dumb."

She placed a plate in front of him. "It's fine to sound dumb. You're 15, and this is a major step towards your goal."

"Now eat slowly, you still have to wait for Toga."

Jun smiled, eating slowly. "Thanks Mom."

About halfway through his meal, a pair of arms wrapped around his neck. "Good morning, Jun."

"Morning Toga." He tapped his chopsticks against her plate. "Eat breakfast, we don't wanna be late."

Toga squeezed slightly, before sitting into the seat next to him. "Fine~"

Once Toga joined them, the rest of breakfast went by fast. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw his mother watching them with a knowing smirk.

There she goes again. She's practically treating Toga as a daughter-in-law.

Once breakfast was finished, Jun grabbed his and Toga's plates, putting them in the sink. "I'll do the dishes when we get back. Bye, Mom!"

He shrugged on his jacket as Toga fell in beside him. "Bye, Mrs. Mori!"

"Stay safe, you two!" was the last thing they heard from Mom as they stepped out.

As they walked Toga bumped her hip into his. "You excited?"

Jun shot her a smile. "I'm ecstatic."

She let out a huff of laughter. "Glad to hear it, you've been training longer than me and even I'm excited."

"Well, it's been more like physical maintenance for me." He patted his bicep as he flexed.

Toga let out a laugh. "Uh-huh~, always the big strong one, probably infected Kirishima with that attitude too."

Jun scoffed, putting his hands behind his head. "Kirishima was always on the Manly path, I just accelerated it."

Rolling her eyes, Toga skipped ahead. "Whatever you say, Jun."

They turned the corner to see Kirishima and Mina waiting at the entrance.

"Jun! Over here!" Mina called over as she waved.

"My dude!" Kirishima fist bumped Jun, then gave Toga a high five. "You two ready to crush this exam?"

Mina hopped over with a smile and high-fived Jun. "Of course they are, Ejiro. Jun's got this in the bag!"

Jun laughed, waving it off with a smile. "You two worked hard as well, you're practically already students."

Laughing, they made their way into the station.

"There you go again, dude! You're manly, own it!"

"I'm owning it, Kirishima." Jun said as the train arrived right on time. "But I gotta hype up my own friends."

Kirishima rubbed his nose and followed Jun on board while the girls stepped on behind them, still talking.

As the doors closed, Mina spun to Jun."Right! Jun! What do you think the exam is gonna be?"

Jun took a second to think about how to word it. "Well… General admittance is obvious. But hero exam stuff? That's hidden, I think it's probably something to show off how we think on our feet."

"Like a talent show?" Mina tilted her head.

Kirishima nodded as if that made sense while Toga looked confused at Mina.

Jun let out a laugh. "U.A isn't just going to be about quirks. It's about hero spirit."

Suddenly there was a voice from the side. "Yo, you guys talking about the U.A exam?"

Jun looked over. Holy… Jiro?

The punk girl blew bubblegum. "You gonna talk?"

Mina immediately spoke. "Yeah! We're all taking the exam today, are you as well?"

"Yeah. I didn't expect to be sharing a ride with other exam participants." She eyed up Jun who had been looking at her since she spoke. "You got a problem?"

Jun blinked out of his stupor, smile forming. "Sorry, I just love your style. It's the first time I've seen it."

Not a lie in this lifetime. Shame I don't know any bands… tch.. maybe I should learn.

Jiro smiled. "Thanks. Most people just give me a side eye."

Toga narrowed her eyes, muttering, "So Jun likes that type of clothes…"

Jun ignored that outwardly but inwardly... Punk Toga? Not a bad idea.. wait, no. Dangerous.

He blinked the image out of his mind as he focused on the girl in front of him.

"Names Junya Mori, my friends call me Jun." He extended a handshake.

Jiro took it. "Kyouka Jiro."

Mina put her hand out fast. "Me next! I'm Mina Ashido!"

Jiro blinked back at the energy but shook Mina's hand. "Nice to meet you."

Kirishima put out a fist. "Ejiro Kirishima!"

She fist bumped him, then turned to Toga. "And you?"

"Himiko Toga."

Jiro gave her a nod. "Well, just wanted to say good luck on the exams. What course are you all joining?"

All four of them answered at once. "Hero course!"

Her eyes widened. "Same! So maybe we'll be classmates."

She looked over to Jun. "You've been staring."

Jun tilted his head as he smiled in confusion. "Pardon?"

Jiro rolled her eyes. "You've been looking at my clothes for a while."

Jun blinked and laughed. "Hah… I was more interested in the band, I'm not all that familiar."

Her eyes lit up. "Oh? You interested?"

"A little."

Off to the side, Mina and Kirishima leaned over with Toga.

"How does he do that?" Kirishima said as he watched Jiro start talking about a specific band.

Mina looked impressed "I think it's because he's interested in the band. Jun doesn't try to impress someone."

Toga kept quiet, her fingers digging into her palms.

By the time the train came to a stop, Jiro was still talking.

"This new band is some major small time but their newest release is as good as it gets."

Jun nodded along. "Amazing. I kinda just missed out on the music world, huh?"

Jiro hit his shoulder. "No time like present, if we pass, I'll share some of my favorites."

He rubbed where she hit. "Sounds like a deal."

Toga coughed. "It's our stop."

Jiro and Jun looked over. "Oh it is. Wanna walk with us or are you waiting for people?"

"I can walk with you guys."

The group along with Jiro stepped off the train, walking to U.A.

"Man! I'm so excited! This exam is gonna rock!"

Jun laughed at Kirishima. "We get it, Dude. You're excited."

Kirishima laughed back at Jun. "You say it like you aren't!"

Mina stopped in her tracks, looking up. "Wow…look at that."

The group stopped with her, looking up.

U.A stood before them, its imposing structure reaching high. Kirishima gulped. "Guys… this is real, right?"

Jun clapped his back. "As real as it gets. Let's get going."

Other people joined the walk, people talking as they entered the building.

They approached the receptionist, getting the information.

"Oh? I'm assigned to Room 4." Jun said as he held up a paper.

"I got room 2." Jiro held hers up.

"Room 5, here." Mina flipped her paper to show.

"I got 3." Kirishima said as he looked through the paper.

Jun looked over to Toga. "Toga, where did they place you?"

"I got room 2 as well." She smiled a little forcibly.

Jun patted her shoulder. "Well, we'll meet up later, yeah?"

The group nodded, as they started walking off to their assigned rooms.

"Good luck on your exams! You'll need it, Mina!"

Mina turned, sticking her tongue out at Jun. "I studied! I don't need luck, Jun!"

Jun laughed as he stepped into the assigned room.
