Konoha's Shadow Platoon moved in a formation through the forests surrounding Konoha.
Mukai, one of the two sensors of the platoon, walked beside Shunsui along with an iryo nin as well as his sensei Choza and his teammates Guy and Genma.
The only other sensor walked at the front of the entire formation so he could warn everyone as soon as possible of anything strange.
Only two sensors and two iryo nin travelled with the group. Many people would think of that number as too small, but most platoons in the other villages did not even have one sensor and at most one iryo ninja.
Konoha was blessed with sensing clans like the Hyuga. Even the Inuzuka and Aburame, who were usually trackers, could act as sensors if the situation required it.
Then there were the Yamanaka who were among the best sensors in Konoha along with the Hyuga. The other sensor in the platoon was a Yamanaka jonin who had years of experience.
The bandits' general location had already been scouted beforehand so the platoon knew exactly which direction to travel. They moved quietly and stayed alert the whole way.
As they reached the area near the bandit camp the Yamanaka shouted, "We are nearby." His words carried just far enough for the whole group to hear without alerting the enemy.
Shinku immediately gave the next order. "Formation 1." Everyone nodded and moved at once.
The Nara clan members quickly surrounded Shunsui while the rest of the platoon stepped a little further away from him and outside of the thirty metre range. They knew the limits of his Shikai and followed the plan without delay.
Shunsui who now had his Shikai always active, activated one of the games and said in a calm voice, "The game is active."
A soft wave of energy spread outward from him. Everyone who was near him tried to control the shadows around them.
Voices rose one after another. "I am a participant." "Me too." Nine of the fifteen Naras raised their hands to show they had successfully entered the game.
Shunsui counted them carefully. 'As expected ten participants in the game including me. The chakra expenditure is quite high but manageable.' He felt the drain on his energy but knew he could keep the game running for the whole fight if he stayed careful.
His game limited the number of participants to a game but to make it fair Shunsui had no say in who can be a participant and who can not be one.
Shinku gave the next command. "Mukai, Yamanaka do your thing."
Mukai activated his byakugan at once. The veins around his temple stood out as the eye opened fully.
The Yamanaka jonin then placed his hand on Mukai's shoulder and linked their minds. As Mukai sensed the exact positions of the bandits the Yamanaka relayed the same information to every Nara participant.
They now knew where every enemy stood. Shadows extended from each player like dark rivers. With a quiet woosh, the shadows travelled hundreds of metres across the forest floor.
'Shadow stitching jutsu.'
The bandit scouts never saw the attack coming. Their bodies were skewered by thin black spears of shadow. All of the genin and civilian bandit scouts died before they could realise what had happened.
The shadows had come too fast and from too far for them to act or shout a warning. One of the Nara participants whispered in awe. "Woah, I just assassinated someone hundreds of metres away with a shadow stitching jutsu. Never thought I would be able to do it."
Another Nara laughed quietly. "This is crazy. My shadow just stretched farther than I have ever managed in training. Heck, I doubt even the clan head could stretch it this far."
A third Nara added, "We could clear the bandits without taking a single step."
The bandits in the main camp were alerted though as an alarm sounded across their camp.
Loud bells rang and men shouted orders. Out came a force of a hundred strong bandits. Most of them were genin with some chunin and two jonin leading the group.
It was not a very strong force considering the platoon was made of mostly chunin and jonin. But what followed was more of a slaughter than a normal battle.
The Nara participants who were still inside the game turned into five or six each as they created shadow clones. These were not the normal shadow clones that Naruto used. These were clones made of literal shadows while the Kageoni game continued.
They outnumbered the bandits in moments and they jumped through shadows to slaughter the genin with kunai and blades as soon as they reached within 30 metres of shunsui.
The bandits cried out in shock and fear. One bandit screamed, "What is happening? These shadows....."
Another bandit shouted, "This is not normal ninjutsu! Run while you can!"
Another bandit cursed loudly, "Who are these Konoha demons?"
Someone begged, "Please stop! We surrender!"
The Nara kept attacking without mercy. And it was only the nine participants of the Kageoni game that were slaughtering the genins
The rest of the Nara stayed behind near Shunsui as they watched the show. Every Nara who was not a participant of the game stood next to Shunsui protecting him. They formed a tight circle and kept their eyes on the surrounding trees.
Shadow after shadow rose and fell. Bandit after bandit dropped to the ground without ever seeing their attackers clearly.
Shunsui stood in the centre of the protective circle and watched the fighting. He was not someone who liked to be babysat and so he decided to have some fun himself.
