In two days, the platoon that was named the Shadow Platoon gathered at the exit of the village.
More than thirty shinobi stood in neat rows with their packs ready and their weapons checked. Shinku gave his orders as everyone was given their roles and final preparations were made.
He walked along the line and spoke to everyone so that no one would forget their role.
Everyone had been briefed about Shunsui's abilities and in the prior two days the Naras had also had a session with him to get a feel about his game of Shadow Demon(Kageoni).
They still could not believe how easy it was to control their shadows and do things with them that was thought to be impossible. They could create clones made of literal shadows.
They could extend their shadows to such a large distance. They could even teleport through shadows. The training had left them excited and a little shocked at how someone outside of their clan could use shadows better than them.
As Shunsui arrived the Naras looked at him in admiration. He was placed in the centre of the formation to protect him in case of any attack. Choza and his teammates stood around him like a living wall.
Guy stepped forward with bright eyes and a wide smile. "Don't worry Shunsui, I will protect you with my Youth!! No one would get past me to hurt you." Guy said the words with so much energy that several shinobi nearby turned to look.
He planted his feet firmly on the ground and raised one fist high in the air. His green jumpsuit stretched as he struck a powerful pose.
"Guy, You remember me beating you in the exams right?" Shunsui asked with a wry smile.
"Yes but you would be too busy to help the others with your games then to use them to protect yourself." Guy said. He believed that Shunsui would focus on supporting the whole team.
"I have been training too Guy. It's just that I have not had a chance to use my new trump card." Shunsui said. He kept his tone light but the words made several people lean closer. Genma and Choza turned their heads with interest.
"Wait..are you talking about that Bankai?" Guy asked surprised since he knew that Shunsui said that Bankai was much more powerful than his shikai.
"Sadly no. I am still not capable enough to use that. But I have managed to train my shikai further. As long as the rules don't overlap I can now play two games at a time. So I can now both help the others in more ways and also protect myself." Shunsui said with a smile.
He explained that the new skill would let him support the Nara clan while also keeping a second game ready for his own defence. Choza nodded in approval.
Choza said, "That's a good development that we should tell Shinku about later." He wanted the platoon leader to know about any new strength that could help the missions.
Genma said, "Sensei, We should have had more men though if we are going to do missions like going after key enemy positions and troops. Just thirty five shinobi does not sound much."
He looked at the size of the group and felt a little worried about the hard missions ahead.
Shunsui was the one to answer. "No, A small number would make it seem to other villages that this platoon is for other purposes other than assault. Konoha would not send their shinobi especially someone a kid who won chunin exams to their dead. We have the reputation of tree huggers after all."
"So our platoon moments would be mostly ignored and the other villages would focus their manpower on more important things like the actual war front."
He continued, "But that's not all. My ability could only make a few people participants in my games. The rest would not benefit from my games so he must have also considered that. I am pretty sure if our platoon does well and we start gaining attention from the other Shinobi villages, more shinobi would be sending to reinforce us."
As he was explaining this, he saw an acquaintance arriving and joining their platoon. "Oh?" Shunsui raised his eyebrows in mild surprise. "Now is not it a surprise. You in our platoon?" Shunsui asked Mukai. The one eyed Hyuga walked toward the group with calm steps.
"Yes. I had joined team Minato for the Chunin Exams. My earlier genin team had long been disbanded. And since I did not have a team and seeing my capability with the byakugan, Lord Hokage deemed it fit for me to be one of the sensors of the platoon." Mukai said.
Shunsui smiled genuinely since he now had another friend nearby and one that actually drinks alcohol unlike his teammates who were too scared of rules.
"Welcome to the team then." Shunsui said. Mukai nodded and took his place near the other sensors.
Shinku finally moved at the front of the platoon."Since everyone is gathered, remember each of your roles. Our first mission is to get rid of the Ironfang bandits. While it would seem too much to go after a simple bandit group after so much hype about our platoon, We have intel that these bandits are being funded by Kumo."
"This would be a chance to get rid of them and get used to working together since this is not your normal platoon. After this our mission would be to help reclaim a city on the borders of the Land of Fire that is now occupied with Kumo shinobi." Shinku said.
He then gave a small motivating speech just like how Hiruzen would have given. Shunsui tuned it out and was more focused on his internal thoughts, 'Recapturing a city that has been occupied by an enemy village... what games can I use to my advantage in that situation?'
Shiku eventually completed his speech, turned forward and shouted,"Let's move out."
The platoon left the village gates. Shunsui walked in the centre with Choza, Guy, Genma and Mukai close by. He was still in thought of the games that would best suite him and Konoha in the war.
