Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Amber Strong is a 25-year-old, who currently resides in Oceancreek City, a massive island surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and has lived there ever since she was a toddler. Growing up, her parents worked hard to support her and her two sisters, all the while Amber was the only girl in the family to take up self-defense and martial arts classes. For the last five years, she has worked as a reporter for her city's newspaper company, The Oceancreek Times and has often had run-ins with some violent people yet was able to hold her own against them due to her martial arts background. With the sudden rise in superhumans and superheroes, she's been trying to report on The Outlaw as Crystal City is only half an hour from her, but her boss refuses and declines any opportunity, as he sees The Outlaw as a criminal and a vigilante rather than a hero despite all he has done for his own city. Amber, however, protests as she believes him to be a hero since he was able to beat Roman Galloway and deranged serial killer Charlie Cooper and place them both behind bars for life. Despite her boss's decline, Amber decides to go behind his back and take it upon herself to drive to Crystal City for a few days and stays at a hotel. On her first night, she goes to one of the many night clubs in the city, where she is unaware that Michael Monroe is at the same club, but not in his Outlaw outfit. She finally spots him but does her best not to be noticed looking at him when the bartender asks if she needs another drink, to which she accepts.

Michael Monroe: New to town or just visiting?

Amber looks next to her to find Michael standing at the bar, getting another beer, startled by him suddenly appearing.

Amber Strong: Visiting. For work.

Michael Monroe: You're a reporter.

Amber Strong: How did you guess?

Michael Monroe: Reporters come and go more often than they used to.

Amber Strong: Because of The Outlaw? Because of you?

Michael Monroe: That's what the reports say, isn't it?

Amber Strong: You put one of the most feared drug lords behind bars and a deranged serial killer. So, yes, they are true.

Michael Monroe: That's a first, then. Half the time they like to draw him up as some sort of vigilante, someone who does only what he desires and not for the greater good.

Amber Strong: Do you think we can talk more privately? Too loud in here.

The two sit at a table on the roof that has its own bar. Amber looks out at the city's skyline and never realized till now how beautiful it is.

 Michael Monroe: Beautiful, isn't it?

Amber Strong: I have always seen the pictures, but never in person.

Michael Monroe: Hard to believe a city as beautiful as this once held a dark past.

Amber Strong: Is that why you became what you are? Because of the way things were?

Michael Monroe: I actually did it for someone. My brother. I'm sure you have heard the stories.

Amber Strong: Actually, no I have not. I only heard of The Outlaw. Not Michael Monroe.

Michael Monroe: Funny. I don't remember telling you my name, Amber Strong.

Amber looks at him as he reminds her, she's a reporter and her name is out there, but his name was not as he never fully revealed himself to be The Outlaw to the public.

Michael Monroe: The public only knows The Outlaw, but they don't know that it is me underneath that mask and I intend on keeping it that way for the sake of protecting those I love and care about. My brother, he was an officer for this city and a damn good one, too. He always put others before himself. If a building was on fire, he would run into that burning building to get every single person inside out even if it meant sacrificing his own life. He dug too deep into Roman Galloway and he ordered a hit. Trevor was beaten to a pulp and shot. I watched him take his last breath at the hospital and since then I made it my goal to defend this city and those who try to enforce the law. It's a never-ending war, Ms. Strong. Anytime I slow down or I stop, his face is all I see. He left behind a wife and an unborn child. I can't stop. I won't stop. I've come this far to stop now.
