Summary:A spell from a mysterious book shoved into Wednesday's belongings unleashes Enid's most primal desire… to take care of Wednesday. Unfortunately, it is an unconventionally werewolf style of caring, and the Addams have equally unconventional proposal methods so Wednesday mistakes it for a marriage proposal.

Chapter 1Chapter Text
" This spell will show the truest, most primal desires of a werewolf ", Enid read. She whipped to face Wednesday, face horrified at the idea. "Wednesday… this book that you're getting your experiment from seems sketchy." The book in question was leatherbound, old, and thick with pages that smelled musty from ages of existence.
Without batting an eye, Wednesday replies, "What's the fun of an experiment where you know the result will be safe?" Part of Wednesday was simply curious. The other part of her liked watching Enid squirm. Although they were now friends, Wednesday still delighted in the uncomfortable.
Noting her friend's discomfort, Wednesday slowly weighs the pros and cons of doing this experiment. After all, this book was one that Enid had found mysteriously tucked in with Wednesday's belongings as she was helping her friend unpack to settle back into their room at Nevermore. Did the ideas of this book entice her enough? Perhaps as much as guillotines that screamed woe to the monarchy?
As Wednesday decided that perhaps friendship was more important and opened her mouth to share her conjecture, Enid interrupts her train of thought with a sigh. "Fine. But you better chain me down if I go to do something embarrassing to Ajax." Inwardly it is Wednesday that Enid is hoping she doesn't embarrass herself in front of. Ever since the fight with the hyde Enid is intimately aware of Wednesday's effect on her. An effect that Ajax did not have.
"I'd chain you down even if you didn't ask", Wednesday answers with a mysterious smirk before turning around to pick up the book. It is the confusion between the possible sexual meaning behind the statement and the fear of the literal definition of the statement that makes Enid's stomach flutter. She loved the way Wednesday confused her.
"Are you sure?" Wednesday asks once more. It wasn't uncommon for test subjects of hers to wimp out. Pugsley was one of the few people who could keep up with her experiments. It's a large part why Wednesday kept him around.
"Yes! As long as it's with my bestie!" Enid replies with a grin so bright that it sickens Wednesday.
Then Wednesday turns, uttering the words inked into the book.
With a loud howl and crackling of bones, Enid starts to transform, first a snout forming then ears and fangs. Wednesday watches with distinct interest. She had never had the honor of watching a werewolf turn. It excited her, a bubbling like soup straight out of the cauldron for breakfast. She is enraptured.
Enid looks at her as the exciting sick cracking sound of bones and skin stops. Wednesday stares back, waiting, and not blinking. The kind eyes meet the eyes of the coldest being to grace Earth. Then the expected happens. Enid dashes off past Wednesday, crashing through their door, Thing barely has time to skitter out of her way.
Quickly, Wednesday grabs her chains from her suitcase and runs off after her, through the stone corridors of Nevermore, following the echoes of claws and paws on stone. Curiously, the sounds lead her not toward the boys dorms but the gates toward the town. As Wednesday turns the corner, she sees the wolf sitting on its hind legs waiting gleefully. As soon as Enid spots Wednesday, she takes off once again.
By the time they get to the town, Wednesday feels sufficiently frustrated, out of shape (more like the werewolf is too powerfully in shape). The cold crisp air burns her lungs as she breathes in and out. The bright moon shines down upon them as they continue this all too meaningful chase, woefully unaware of what it would bring them.
Grinding to a halt, at the gates of the cemetery, Wednesday approaches slowly. For the first time since they have started this chase, Enid does not run off at the sight of Wednesday approaching. As Wednesday gets closer, she sees blood upon Enid's maw. Not a lot, but enough.
Upon the floor lay a squirrel, blood morbidly pooling around it. Wednesday looks between the squirrel and then Enid, contemplating the two with a curious gaze. "I do not understand how you have found out about our Addams family tradition, especially of proposal, but well done, Enid. The cemetery, the dead body, you've almost hit the coffin nail on the head. You're just missing the murder accusation." It is respect that comes out in Wednesday's tone, something which was hard to gain when it came to Wednesday Addams. Indeed, it signified that she approved of whatever she thought this was.
Slowly the werewolf starts to shrink, morphing back to her original form with a confused looking face. "What?" The spell was wearing off, and the haze which had led her to present such a gift to Wednesday was disappearing. Enid didn't understand why this was what her inner self chose to do. Of course it wasn't because offering food was a way of caring for another in werewolf culture. What a preposterous idea.
That's when boots are heard, crunching against the dying grass and dirt of the graveyard. Flashlights shine upon them and although Enid puts up her hands to block the light from her eyes, Wednesday doesn't even flinch. Fear permeates Enid as the police surround them, Sheriff Galpin stepping forward with a sigh. "What are you girls doing here in the middle of the night?"
"What are you doing at a cemetery pointing guns at two girls in the middle of the night?" Wednesday replies snarkily with an eye roll. Enid had half a mind to cheer on Wednesday and totally would have if it were for all the eyes unnervingly trained upon her as if she would pounce at any second.
"There was a death down the street so we've been investigating a crime scene, and you two just happen to be in the vicinity, with God knows what is bloodying the dirt of this graveyard", Galpin replies with a grimace as he glances at the remains of the squirrel. "If I didn't know better I'd take you two in as the prime suspects."
"Obviously this is a marriage proposal" Wednesday deadpans, as if a baby should know that. Enid literally chokes on air, suddenly replaying Wednesday's words from earlier. You're just missing the murder accusation . Didn't Galpin just do exactly that? The Addams family proposal was complete.
Galpin stares at the two of them back and forth, mouth open. Then he shakes his head. "I don't even know what to say to that." Turning around he walks away. The rest of the police force reluctantly follows, leaving the pair to look at each other over the squirrel, under the moonlight.
"I must say I am quite pleasantly surprised. You have exceeded my expectations Enid. On that account I shall accept. If you can keep up with being an Addams of course. The expectations will be high", Wednesday finally says before picking up the squirrel and hugging it to herself as if it were a doll of some sort as she calmly and gracefully walks away.
Well this was an issue.

Pacing back and forth with a scowl pasted upon her face, Wednesday can be heard having a furious conversation with Thing. "Thing, I did not accept because I have feelings, I accepted because it was so perfectly horrifying and that excites me."
Thing signs upon the black sheets, as Wednesday continues to wear a hole in the old wood floorboards. Wednesday shakes her head, "That hug was-… it was out of…" Then she paused, for if Enid were to hear her say that the hug was a mistake she would be hurt, and the idea of Enid hurt again irked Wednesday more than she cared to admit.
Wednesday never understood why she cared, why this uncomfortability happened when Enid was in danger, or upset. Normally she rebelled in those two things.
Grabbing her cannonball, Wednesday starts to weigh it in her arms as she paces back and forth, fiddling with it as if it was a pencil during a boring class. Thing signed again and Wednesday grinded her heels. Her face is full of rage at the suggestion, dumping the cannonball. She opens her mouth to retort, but as the cannonball hits the floor, it cracks and down goes Wednesday with it, through the floor.
"But what about Ajax, how about I going to tell him that I like Wedne-" Enid says from below as she sits on Yoko's bed in turmoil, throwing her hands out in exasperation only to catch Wednesday in her arms as wood debris of the ceiling and floor above them rained down, and the bed split in half from the cannonball. Yoko luckily avoids most of the debris by jumping off the bed with killer reflexes.
Staring at Wednesday now in her arms, Enid's mouth falls open. Enid was quite sure that something so comically morbid would happen around an Addams. Apparently there was a big difference between accidentally proposing and accidentally admitting your feelings. One was significantly more terrifying than the other. At least the first one was a misunderstanding.
"Yes, what about Ajax?" Wednesday replies, glaring at Enid as if daring her to say more. Enid gulps, brain going haywire at the physical contact she is having with Wednesday and just how close Wednesday's face is to hers. She doesn't think Wednesday has ever been this close besides the one hug they had.
"Nothing! There's nothing going on between me and Ajax," Enid squeaks out and gives her the best smile she could with her heart pounding so loudly.
"Yes, just like nothing just like how you are so horrible at lying that you might as well have said nothing", Wednesday huffs before pushing herself out of Enid's arms and gliding away, stormy look on her face. Of course she also scoops up her cannonball on the way out.
Enid groans in defeat, hiding her face behind her hands to try to conceal her embarrassment and flushed face. It doesn't help, she can literally hear Yoko laughing at her demise from several feet away.
"What am I going to do?" Enid moans in despair.
Patting her on the back, in an attempt at comfort, Yoko replies, "Maybe start by telling Ajax you're interested in somebody else?" Enid whines at the idea, the whole school will know by the end of the day if she does that she knows.
Plus it took her an entire day at Uriah's Heap dropping hints to get him to agree to go on a date. She knew subtle wouldn't cut it with the gorgon whose skull was as thick as stone.

The courtyard was so awkward. Okay so maybe Enid still hadn't told Ajax yet. It hadn't even been 24 hours. She wasn't about to sneak out in the middle of the night to break up with somebody. No, it wasn't just an excuse, it was totally legitimate! Or at least that's what Enid told herself internally.
As Ajax slid onto the bench he wrapped an arm around Enid's shoulders. "Morning, Enid."
Enid feels like she's on fire as she watches Wednesday glare from behind a pillar. Attempting to focus on her raw meat for breakfast, Enid just shrugs her shoulders. In response Ajax frowns but shrugs it off as he starts to greet his buddies with a cheerful grin.
Even with her eyes glued to her food, Enid can feel Wednesday's piercing gaze upon her, and it makes Enid shiver in an odd sense of excitement. As the racket continued around Enid it seemed to get louder and louder, Ajax's words and laughs echoing in her head.
Unable to withstand the tension within her, Enid looks up, right into the deep dark depths of Wednesday's pitch black eyes. It sucks her in, unrelenting like a torrent. Wednesday had always been a storm which had Enid infatuated.
Slowly, Enid stands up. "Babe?"
Enid feels like she's unable to breathe, something is swelling in her chest like a raging tide. "I'm engaged to Wednesday, so we should really break up!" It all spills out of her mouth faster and faster with each syllable until the last two words are a barely recognizable jumble.
Hands flying to her mouth in surprise at what she blurted out, Enid looks horrified as she sees Ajax's stunned face. Looking back toward the pillar, the signature black of Wednesday has all but disappeared. It was just like Wednesday, to push in unfathomable directions. Enid could only fall for Wednesday harder with each step of this dance they had fallen into because of that mysterious book.
Chapter 2: Poor AjaxSummary:Nobody believes that Wednesday and Enid are engaged, Ajax continues to ogle over Enid, and Wednesday takes it into her own murderous hands.
Notes:(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter TextAjax was frozen. It was the entire courtyard. Then to Enid's horror, the entire table started laughing. Biting her lip, Enid's face started to fall.
"C'mon Enid nobody's going to believe that, nobody would get engaged so young," another werewolf started to say, grinning so that his sharp teeth glinted in the sunlight.
"Yeah, and if you were gonna choose somebody at least choose somebody believable", Bianca chipped in, rolling her eyes with her arms crossed.
At a complete loss for words, Enid just stands there, mouth open. She didn't know to be relieved or fearful. Wednesday Addams was quite murderous when she was upset. Just then the bell rings, signaling the end of this unusual breakfast.
As everyone hastily cleaned up and ran off, quickly forgetting the conversation at hand, Ajax gave Enid a completely unwelcome kiss to the cheek goodbye, to which she received stiffly. How she wished it was a kiss from Wednesday. She could swoon at just the idea.
Lost in thought, she doesn't notice when Ajax suddenly flails, arms waving in a futile attempt to catch himself. Enid only catches the second half of it where he literally face planting in the courtyard, Ajax groans. Enid bites back a smile at his demise. As a small figure scuttles away and pauses next to a pillar, she mouths, "Thank you."
One could always count on Thing.

"Wednesday!" Enid chirps as she practically skips into class, sitting herself right next to the dark haired girl in question.
"I see he is still on you like a desperate and miserable baby", Wednesday commented, not gracing Enid with the same enthusiasm. Her jaw is clenched, eyes dark and stormy. It sets Enid's stomach alight with the blackest of butterflies.
Enid just grins and replies, "Glad to see you too!" The conversation barely connected, and yet Wednesday softened a little, nodding in acknowledgement before the teacher stepped into view, marching up to the front of the classroom and clearing her throat.
The tension does not ease from Wednesday as the class proceeds, even though it was a class on dissection (which usually made Wednesday as close to happy as she ever was). In fact, she only scowls harder.
Each and every time she looks up, Enid catches her glancing in the direction of Ajax. It was exactly the opposite of where Enid wanted to look since the wanting expressions Ajax was giving her only made her feel guilty. Ajax either ignored Wednesday or was blissfully unaware of how much he was angering her. This continues throughout their classes for days.
It comes to a head when Ajax shows up one day with a hershey kiss for Enid.
"That is no way to court somebody", Wednesday declares.
"Look, what do you have against me? I'm just trying to make my girlfriend happy", Ajax complains with a groan at the interruption. By this point he had most definitely noticed her glares.
Wednesday replied in a chillingly calm tone. "I do not like repeating myself, but for the sake of your eardrums that seem too stoned to vibrate, I will do so just this once. Your courting skills are abysmal."
Ajax throws his hands into the air. "Well how would you do it if you're such an expert?" In his mind there's no way that Wednesday Addams, the chillingly cold and sinister girl could be good at romance of all things.
Wednesday steps forward, at the challenge, eyes glued to Enid, unwavering. She extends a cold, pale hand towards Enid, who accepts cautiously, unsure what is really happening. In one swift motion, Wednesday steps even closer until they are chest to chest, head bending as if to smell Enid's hand, only to travel up her arm just like Gomez would but without the kisses. She is so close to Enid that Enid can practically feel the tension, knowing that just a quiver, a sliver of movement and Wednesday's lips would touch her arm.
Absolutely enraptured, nobody - especially not Enid - noticed Wednesday's other hand moving.
Wednesday continued on, up and up until she reached Enid's neck, breath warmly caressing the smooth exposed skin. Enid isn't sure if she's about to die from lack of breath or a heart attack at Wednesday's movements. It was so graceful, so romantic in a decidedly Addams way.
The cold assaults Enid as Wednesday suddenly steps back. It is a pitiful way to realize Wednesday Addams really isn't cold at all, but flaming hot compared to everything around them.
However, Wednesday is right in her element. She smirks as she looks over Enid's shoulder to where Ajax is now pinned onto a wall by two daggers piercing the sleeves of his uniform. "Charming somebody is a loathsome idea, and I do not need to fight for somebody's attention. Nobody is worth that. However, this is how I would ensure I am the only one. No job is done without a weapon."
With that, Wednesday turns on her heel and glides away, leaving a stunned audience and Enid, none of them quite sure if Wednesday meant she wanted to be Enid's "only one", or something else more murderous.
One thing was sure. Ajax was never going to bring Enid another hershey kiss.

The next class, Enid couldn't take her eyes off of Wednesday. Her heart still beat a thousand times a second from what Wednesday had done in the courtyard. It wasn't just Wednesday touching her and being so close, Enid also found how Wednesday's violence enamored her.
Never, would Enid have guessed that she was somebody into threats, and aggression until she met Wednesday. After all, she was the least wolf-like werewolf to ever exist. According to her parents, at least.
Wednesday frowned at the sudden attention. It wasn't like Enid didn't grin at her in a way that made her want to consider not committing arson for her, but this was a different one. It was a puppy eyed, all too sweet type of look. "What do you want?" Wednesday grumbled.
With a light and airy sigh, Enid replied, "I think I'm falling for you."
"Then stop", came Wednesday's answer. She did not glance at Enid as she said so, continuing to glare at the teacher and black board as if the topic of the day had offended her personally by breaking her guillotine.
Enid blanched at the cold answer. Well that's not what she expected for the first time she verbally confessed her feelings to Wednesday. Why had Wednesday accepted her accidental proposal if she wasn't going to accept Enid's feelings?
Then, under Wednesday's breath so that only Enid could hear, Wednesday murmured, "I don't need you getting hurt, something as soft as bandaging each other up doesn't suit me. It doesn't suit us."
With that, Enid is back to looking at Wednesday with lovey dovey eyes that continues to annoy Wednesday the entire class, so much so that the vein in Wednesday's neck starts to pop out. The idea of being taken care of by Wednesday swirled around Enid's head, making her feel light and woozy. She knew she would sprout wings and fly of happiness if Wednesday truly did that. In other words, Enid just had to make it a reality.
So when the bell rang, Enid stood up with her books, making sure to hook her foot around the leg of the chair as she steps. Flailing with a yelp as she falls, her books go everywhere.
Then suddenly the floor stops rushing towards her. In confusion, Enid looks over her shoulder to find a cold thin hand holding on to the back of her sweater with a surprising show of strength.
Wednesday has caught Enid in the least romantic fashion possible, leaving Enid hanging in midair over the floor. With a yank (as if tugging on a chain) Wednesday pulls Enid upright before walking past her without a word.
That didn't work. Maybe Enid would have to step it up to get some more romantic gestures out of Wednesday. What was the most romantic thing? A date of course! Wednesday was going to love this idea, Enid just knew it.
Notes:Here is a short chapter, I tried for humor but I'm not sure it's funny at all. I figured that I should leave the date for the next chapter though, so that the cut off for the chapter isn't so awkward.
Chapter 3: To Rest in A CoffinSummary:Enid buys a coffin to ask Wednesday out
Chapter Text
The owner of the funeral home was 100% sure this was the most color the business had ever seen. This girl was all types of bright colors. It was unnatural in such a place. He looked at her suspiciously. "This is no place for teenage fun, it's a very serious place", the man warned.
To his surprise she only gives a kind smile. "Actually I'm here looking for a coffin."
The owner pauses for a second before shrugging. It was highly unlikely that the girl was the only relative left of a dead soul, but he had seen many unlikely things happen in the face of death. Everyone was slightly uncomfortable walking into a funeral home. Anyone who wasn't would be quite creepy. The owner himself included.
"Well, our cheapest coffins are ones without a finish, usually in pine wood, how about that?" The owner offers, figuring that the girl wouldn't be able to afford much more than that anyway.
To his surprise she shakes her head, all too colorful locks. "I need something dark, in the best wood you can find." He examines this girl again, not quite sure what to make of her.
Hesitantly, the owner offers an alternative. "Well… if you're sure then we have a solid mahogany casket in black finish. It'll cost you several times more though."
"Sold!" The girl grins, once again a gesture completely unsuited for a funeral home. That's when he noticed the way her teeth glinted, all too sharp for a human's teeth.
She pulls out a wad of cash, from the dead only knows where. Those nails were too sharp, and too long. They didn't look like the acrylic that most girls got on their fingers. The opacity was just wrong.
The owner shivered in fear. No, this was definitely a Nevermore student. It was a good thing the owner wasn't about to turn down a good business deal. So with a gulp he accepted the cash, hoping and praying that this wasn't a bad idea.

Entering her shared dorm room, Wednesday was surprised to find silence. The hole in the floor had turned out to be a horrible thing, not only could Yoko and Enid talk through the floor all night, Wednesday also had to listen to Yoko and her roommate's music in addition to Enid's. The school had roped off the area so nobody would fall through, but had trouble finding somebody to restore the floor to match the old floorboards.
In fact, the silence was so complete, even Thing seemed suspiciously absent.
Wednesday inched forward when she spotted it. A coffin so black it reflected the light from the round window. It was perfect. Cold, death related, and black . The color was so on theme.
"So… do you like it? I wanted to find the perfect gift to ask you out on a date with." The creak of the old door behind her signals the entrance of a person that sets Wednesday's veins on fire.
Wednesday whips around, not allowing the smile that threatened to creep onto her face to surface. "It is acceptable." It was more than acceptable, it was downright impressive. It was so unlike Enid, so out of Enid's style. This was the girl who fainted at the sight of decapitated limbs for all she was worth. Yet she had gone to the trouble to give Wednesday such a morbid present.
Face lighting up, Enid squeals. "So you'll come on a date with me???!" She was vibrating in excitement.
"Yes, but only if you stop that, it's getting annoying", Wednesday replied. In fact, she was getting so annoyed it felt like something was flying around all willy nilly in her stomach. A bat, perhaps.
Walking forward, Wednesday runs her fingers over the lid of the coffin. It was truly quite exquisite in quality. In fact, it was mahogany, polished to perfection with a black finish and gold handles. Flipping the heavy lid, Wednesday finds equally as impressive white inner lining.
Without another thought, Wednesday climbs into the coffin, folding her arms over her chest and closing her eyes.
"Wait Wednesday. Wednesday, what are you doing?" Enid asked, confusion painted across her face. She had expected Wednesday to ask where they were going. In fact, Enid had been so ready to tell Wednesday it was a surprise so that Wednesday could threaten to gut her with a dagger if she didn't. It would've been a cherry on top if Wednesday had backed Enid against the wall with a knife to her throat. Even thinking about it excited Enid.
"Testing out the casket of course" Wednesday replied as if it was a forgone conclusion. She doesn't open her eyes
"I thought you would use it as decoration", Enid replies, stepping closer to the coffin. Instead of a reply, Enid received pure silence. Walking forward a little more, she realized that Wednesday's shoulders and spine were completely stiff, but her breathing had relaxed.
"...Wednesday?" There was no reply as the soft slow breathing continued.
Not being able to help herself, Enid stepped forward, bending over to examine her crush. Wednesday looked so beautiful in a pale, cold type of way when she slept.
Reaching out Enid tucked a lock of raven hair behind Wednesday's ear. Her heart beat faster than when she was fighting the Hyde. Perhaps this wasn't such a horrible result. No, Enid decided. This was actually the result she didn't know she wanted until it happened.
A light feeling floated within Enid. It wasn't often she got to admire Wednesday sleeping. Wednesday was an early waker, but somehow still enjoyed her late nights. Even waking up in the middle of the night, the room would be dark and the lights would be out.
Wednesday looked so calm, so untroubled despite her rigid position. It really was like she was dead. Resting in peace didn't just apply to the dead. Apparently it applied to Wednesday Addams in a beautiful way too.
Planting a small kiss on Wednesday's forehead, Enid murmurs, "κοιμήσου καλά μαύρη μου γάτα." Then she retreats to her own bed. Wednesday would have a head if she awoke to Enid touching her without permission.
The date could wait until Wednesday awoke from her deathly peaceful slumber.

"Ta-da!" The sun's orange rays of sunset shone upon them as Enid presented the location of their first date with an excited wave of her hand.
"Enid, this is the track and field set up for archery practice", Wednesday replies, wholly unimpressed. Wednesday didn't need to be an expert in dating and romance to know that she loathed the idea of her alone time with Enid being interrupted by curious, sweaty, classmates.
"I know!" Enid replies, not faltering at all as she picks up a bow and arrow. Then she does a familiar move, pulling an apple out of her pocket. Cheekily she takes a bite of it before tossing it up into the air, stringing her bow and shooting, pinning the apple to the center of the target.
A smile creeps and crawls onto Wednesday's face, a thing that sends goosebumps up one's spine. Luckily it was a sensation that Enid was not only used to but also thoroughly enjoyed.
"How did you know?" Wednesday asks. Beyond impressed would describe Wednesday well at this moment. She had never been quite so impressed by somebody showing off, but the implications that Enid could not only do better than Xavier, but also just as well as Wednesday wasn't lost.
Enid shrugs in response, apparently intent on keeping the mystery about her. "I have my ways of finding things out around school."
Picking up a bow and arrow of her own, Wednesday shot, but not at the target. Wednesday Addams shot directly at Enid. Enid yelped as she dodged the arrow with grace that lit Wednesday on fire with excitement. Survival instincts were usually pitiful, unsightly, but Enid managed to be gorgeous in such a frightful situation.
"What was that for?!" Enid complained with a pout. Her eyes widened as Wednesday only grinned and readied another arrow.
"Wednesday!" Enid shrieked as she stepped to the side, barely avoiding the arrow. Only, Wednesday didn't stop there. She continued to fire arrows at the poor girl. It was a good thing Enid was used to this with all the sports she did at school. Fencing wasn't the only thing she did. Her brothers made sure of that.
With each arrow, Enid got more aggravated, twisting and turning her body until she was sure she would be a pretzel by the time this ended. Finally, she opened her mouth angrily to tell Wednesday off, only to stop because Wednesday didn't notch another arrow. Instead, Wednesday was approaching her.
Walking up to her until they were breathing the same air, Wednesday whispered, "Your screams of fear are so enticing." Obsidian colored eyes bore into Enid's soul.
It felt like Enid's heart was pounding a thousand times a minute against her ribs to escape. Wednesday had complimented her. She couldn't breathe. She was about to faint. Somebody was going to have to carry her off this field on a stretcher.
Her brain went haywire, going a thousand words per minute. Oh, how she wished Wednesday would kiss her, ravage her right now. "Talk dirty to me", was what slipped out of her mouth, despite the fact that Enid inwardly had been trying to come up with a smooth, and heartwarming reply.
Wednesday nods, stepping back in understanding. "The type of soil a body is buried in can alter its rate of decomposition—acidic soil can cause a body to break down up to three times faster than alkaline soil."
Enid blanched. Only Wednesday Addams could turn a private moment like that into an educational lecture about the decomposition of dead bodies. With a sigh she supposed expecting romance out of Wednesday was a little too much to ask. Mustering up the best smile she could in the face of disappointment, Enid said, "Thanks, Wednesday, do you want to go get some food?"
Not oblivious, Wednesday noticed the entirety of Enid's emotions. Only she didn't understand why Enid seemed so disappointed. Wednesday had even complimented her willingly!
Following Enid as she walked off, Wednesday frowned. Perhaps shooting arrows in a shape of a heart wasn't Enid enough. No, she had to think bigger. More… Enid. Wednesday shivered at the idea.
Chapter 4: Stand UpSummary:Enid stands up for herself
Notes:(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter TextAs they walked off the field, Wednesday following Enid, Ajax stormed onto the field. "Okay that's enough, I'm done being too scared to say anything."
Wednesday takes a step forward, lips slipping into a haunting grin as she lifts her hands. Ajax trips backwards a step, fear dominating his features. Still, he refuses to run away.
As Wednesday goes to advance on him, Enid steps between them. "Stop!"
The two shift their attention to the colorful girl, faces stunned as if they had completely forgotten the subject of their argument to begin with. In reality, how could Wednesday possibly forget Enid, such a bright star in her delightfully dark black and gray world?
So she waits as Enid takes a deep breath and steadies herself. "Wednesday, could you give us some time to talk? Alone?" Enid finally says.
The first reaction Wednesday had was to immediately electrocute the gorgon into ashes like a certain loathsome relative of hers. Instead practicing the restraint that Wednesday hadn't showed since her parents tried to mistakenly send her to a disgusting summer camp, Wednesday took a deep breath, and stepped back. "Fine. But if he does anything to you I won't stop at nailgunning his heart."
"I'll be fine, Wednesday", Enid huffs with an eye roll. She refused to be babied.
Relinquishing, Wednesday sends Ajax one last glare in warning, and turns on her heel and walks away towards the dorms.
"Look, Ajax I know it's weird and Wednesday isn't the nicest or most romantic, but she and I are seriously engaged. We need to break up officially", Enid says, setting her shoulders back and standing up straight to look taller. In the end, she had to do this herself, and not rely on Wednesday. She was a werewolf after all! Enid Sinclair was no weakling. Somebody who couldn't even stand up for herself to break up with a person could never stand next to Wednesday Addams.
Ajax nodded slowly, face falling into sadness. "So it's for real. The show in the quad, the heart."
Frowning, Enid wracked her brain. Unless Ajax meant their physical hearts, there was no hearts involved in Wednesday and Enid's engagement. "What do you mean heart?"
With his hands still in his pockets, Ajax nods towards the center of the field behind Enid.
Her mouth dried as her heart thundered. It couldn't be. There was no way Enid could have missed something like that right? Slowly, Enid turns around to spot the heart made of arrows, made just for her. With a gasp, Enid brings her hands to her mouth to cover the o that her mouth had formed.
"Enid? Are you ok?" The words from Ajax barely registered in Enid's brain, mind still racing through backward to several minutes ago when Wednesday had so confidently shot those arrows around Enid. Wednesday hadn't been attacking Enid for fun at all, she had been trying to be romantic.
"Aaaand I can tell I've completely lost you. See you around Enid", Ajax murmurs. Actually he might have shouted it in her ear, Enid wouldn't have remembered the difference because she was too busy swooning internally. Somewhere in the background Ajax walked off, shoulders drooping.
Enid inwardly berated herself. She had been so ready to be angry at Wednesday for not giving enough effort into their new relationship, but it was Enid who had completely overlooked Wednesday's efforts. That was just how Wednesday was, quiet, crazy in the best of ways, and deadly for Enid's sanity.
-0-
Enid bounced into the room with two plates of food and ground to a halt. "Wednesday?"
She had gone to the cafeteria to grab them lunch, knowing that Wednesday would choose writing furiously on her typewriter over lunch in a heartbeat. So, she had stopped on the way to talk to Yoko and excitedly spill her guts (which always took a while if she was being honest), but the entire room shouldn't look completely different in that time.
Not only was the hole in the floor patched up, it was as if Enid's side of the room had engulfed Wednesday's fairy lights lining the walls. The only indication that Wednesday hadn't vacated the room in anger was the candles lined up to create an aisle to their round window, emanating the wonderful scent of steak tartar - the scent that was to die for.
Placing the plates down on the desk, Enid tentatively placed her hand on the window. Was her heart ready for whatever was on the other side of this? Then Enid realized the suspense of not knowing was killing her faster, and she pushed through, stepping onto their sun bathed balcony.
The scene before her had Enid unable to hold back a giggle. "What are you doing, Wednesday?" This was so un-Wednesday it looked quite ridiculous on her.
With her teeth grit at the immense pain it brought her to being doing what she was, Wednesday grumbled, "Like the bright colors of these bird of paradise flowers, my heart burns hot for you." She thrust the flowers forward, a pot with flowers blooming so vehemently that it almost blocked Wednesday's face from view.
"Wednesday, you don't need to change anything about yourself. I really really like you the way you are. Even the way you are horrifying and crazy is amazing to me. So will you stop this charade and go back to being my girl?" Enid sighed, simultaneously accepting the flowers and looking over them, admiring their beauty. What? They were beautiful flowers that deserved her attention.
"I loathe being called that, never do it again, or else", Wednesday threatened, plucking the plant out of Enid's hands and putting it on the stone wall next to them. This was one of those instances that Wednesday hated being ignored. Sometimes when she was investigating or enacting a brilliant scheme, she preferred that. This was not one of those times. It was an odd thing to be irked by, because Wednesday usually admired tactful rudeness. Wednesday couldn't pinpoint a word to describe this feeling.
"We both know that's an empty threat. Plus, you know that it makes me want to do it even more right?" Enid replied, leaning forward and downward just a little to be closer to Wednesday.
Wednesday only replies with a small quirk upward of her lips before turning toward the window. "Come. We have much work to do to restore our room." Perhaps, just maybe, being Enid's wouldn't be that hideous of an idea.
Enid hurried to grab her new flowers and skip after Wednesday. "Aww okay, can we at least keep the candles?" No response. "Wednesday, the candles?"
"Fine, puppy, we can keep keep them until they burn out if you make haste of restoring our room", Wednesday replied with a sigh, the pet name simply slipping off her tongue. Her pale cheeks color after realizing what she had just said.
Enid squealed in excitement. "ω Θεέ μου! (Oh my god!)"
"Is that Greek? What does that mean?"
"Nothing, it's just- I you-, can't just do that and- and- και περίμενε να μην φρικάρω, φεγγαρι μου(and expect me not to freak out, my moon)."
Wednesday growls in response at the words that she frustratingly could not understand. Was Enid challenging her on purpose? Fine, she'd play this game. "Fermo, non vedi quanto è fastidioso? (Stop, can't you see how annoying that is?)" she stepped forward in challenge.
"που είναι τόσο ζεστό (that is so hot)", Enid said, taking a step of her own, catching on despite the heavy blush coloring her cheeks.
"Ancora! Ti paste questo? (Again! Do you enjoy this?)" Wednesday throws her hands up, taking a second step. That's when she realizes they are touching, from their toes to their chest. Wednesday has to tilt her head slightly to look up at Enid.
The realization that this had Wednesday's stomach fluttering with bats again hit her like a train. This was exciting, riveting like a death sentence. "Cazzo (fuck)."
She looks in Enid's eyes, blue as the sky on the sunniest day, deep as the ocean's deepest depth, sparkling like the shiniest diamond. An inexplicable feeling drew her forward. Wednesday finally had to admit she couldn't resist Enid Sinclair. Enid was her bane and saving grace at the same time. Leaning forward, Wednesday let her eyes drift closed.
Skittering made her eyes shoot wide open, staggering a step backward. Wednesday's head snaps towards the door. "Thing!"
Thing had never been more scared at the murderous glares on both their faces. He was, after all used to the crazy intentions of the Addams's. Shuddering, it quickly turned and scampered off hurriedly.
"YOU COME BACK HERE", Wednesday growled as she took off after it, brandishing knives that were previously hidden the dead only knows where.
"Thinggggg you better answer for what you've just doneee", Enid adds in a sing song voice as she joins the chase, brandishing her claws. There was no way she was letting anyone get away with interrupting the most romantic moment she and Wednesday had had so far. Not even Thing.
Thundering down the hall, the three of them were quite the sight. Not only was Wednesday roaring in fury (she was usually silent), but Enid was sprinting in harmful rage.
Then to make things even more dramatic, Thing attempted to leap over a pair of roller skates left out in the hall of the student dorms, only to have its pinky catch on the edge and flop right into the shoe, setting the skates into motion. Ricocheting down the stairs, the skate and Thing bounced off the wall off into yet another hall.
Stuck in the shoe and unable to untangle itself, Thing is completely unable to control the shoe careening into an unfortunately flimsy pedestal where a vase sat, completely shattering the vase as the skate crashing into it at the same time as a barrage of daggers. To top it off, Enid leapt, claws out to catch thing, dealing the final blow to knock over the pedestal.
By the time the entire campus had arrived to see what the racket going on was about, only to find a disheveled but unharmed Enid trying to fix her hair as she hurriedly ran after Wednesday who was stalking off with a detached hand squirming in her grip.
After tying Thing securely to a pillar, Wednesday finally looked in Enid's eyes again. "I think we need to tell our parents before Thing tells on me."
Enid knew that her parents wouldn't react well. They were traditional sort of werewolves after all. Especially her mother. Yet, she smiled as bright as she could and nodded, because if it something to Wednesday then how could Enid say no? Plus, becoming an official member of the Addams family sounded amazing. The family was so accepting.
Notes:So I usually try to wait until 7 days from the last chapter to update.
However, I'm writing the next chapter (5) and I need public opinion.
Do you guys want to see Enid's parents reaction and how Enid and Wednesday deals with that? How about more interactions with friends and classmates (other than Ajax).
If not, the plot is pretty much ending in chapter 5. Of course if any of you would like to see more or have ideas of what else you would like to see I will gladly try to write them into the plot.
Another thing is that if I extend the plot, I may have to put this story on hiatus for a few weeks while I recover from surgery on the 12th.
So I will leave it up to the comment section to duke out what the audience wants to see. Do you want more chapters and to expand on this universe? Or do you want it to end on chapter 5?
Chapter 5: The Consequence of TellingSummary:Enid freaks out, Wednesday talks to her parents and the truth is revealed.

Chapter Text
Divina sighed as the door flew open once again, grabbing her phone and pretending to be bored at whatever was the first thing on it.
Yoko very quickly and subtly shifted away from her on the bed. "Enid", she groans. "Do you ever knock?
The werewolf in question waltzes in, plopping down next to them on the bed that seemed to be getting smaller by the minute. Frowning, she seemed to consider the question seriously before answering, "I do! Especially when I know Wednesday is in the room."
"Wednesday, Wednesday, Wednesday. She's got you wrapped around her pale little finger", Yoko replied, grabbing a magazine off her nightstand and flipping through it. Even if the rest of the world wouldn't believe the engagement, Yoko did. She had practically called it that they were going to get together, it was just that Enid had taken them all as teasing jokes.
"You don't understand, she just did the most romantic thing today!" Enid gushed. Divina rolled her eyes and Yoko mentally prepared herself. Wednesday Addams was a lot of things, but romantic was not one of them. So they could be forgiven if they were slightly skeptical.
That didn't stop Enid from recounting the entire day starting from preparing for their date in the same room (apparently Enid found Wednesday's deadpan critiques of her outfits charmingly truthful).
By the end, Yoko had dropped the magazine, genuine surprise overcoming her features. "Wow. Wouldn't Wednesday kill you if she knew you told us she did all that?"
"Wait, does that make us assassination targets now?!" Divina added.
Leave it up to Enid's friends to focus on the wrong thing. They didn't even take time to indulge her gushing on the romantic heart and aisle of candles. It was all the better, Enid supposed. Their reactions made it easier for Enid to remember the reason why she had come here in the first place. "That's not what we should be worried about right now."
"Girl, we're going to be murdered by an Addams and you're telling us we shouldn't worry? You better be telling us the world is ending next", Yoko cried, still not catching on to Enid's concern.
"It might as well be! My world as I know it will be ending! Wednesday wants to tell our parents", Enid said, sporting a dramatic pout. This was probably one of the few times that the drama in Enid's reaction was warranted.
"Oh. That's why you stormed in here in a panic." Yoko patted Enid's back sympathetically.
"What do I do?" Enid murmured miserably, eyes down upon the bed, colorful locks covering her face. She really did look like her entire world was crumbling around her. Anyone who was Enid's true friend knew how much her family and pack meant to her. To choose a gorgon was one thing, but a human? Being kicked out wasn't the worst punishment a teen werewolf could receive. Not by far.
"Well you could say no", Divina suggested. It was the simplest escape to this dilemma.
Enid's shoulder's only drooped further. "I can't, cause Wednesday's right. They'll hear of this soon enough and it's better coming from our mouths."
"I think it's smart to get it over with", Yoko encouraged. While Yoko's heart hurt for Enid, she also knew that babying her would do her friend no good. If Enid was to be with Wednesday, and Yoko was quite sure they were going to be together for a while, then this was going to come up sooner or later.
"What? No, if you're not ready just tell Wednesday that. You have to communicate", Divina argued, the opposite argument coming to mind. If the pain could be delayed and the joy extended, then why not keep the happiness a little longer?
"Are you serious right now? It'll be so much worse if they wait. That is Wednesday communicating what needs to be done," Yoko argued, snapping her head toward Divina.
In response, Divina leaned forward with a mischievous smirk. "Oh, and you're such an expert on communication?"
"Obviously! That's why Enid comes to me for advice!" Yoko leaned forward as well, trying her best to sit up straight and tower over Divina.
"Well maybe she shouldn't if you give advice like that." Divina did the same, until they were in a glaring contest.
"That's up to her, right, Enid?" Their heads snap toward Enid, only to discover Enid had silently escaped the room during their argument.

It was several days later after the ridiculous chase that Wednesday declared
"Mother, father, I have something to tell you", as she sat at her desk, spine impossibly straight and rigid, facing a crystal ball. She figured it was time. After all, Enid had proven that she was a worthy adversary in the battle of courtship.
Gomez's face lights up at the idea of his little girl confiding in him, "Oh my little scorpion we're always here to listen." Wednesday despised the happiness that smeared his face.
"Yes, do tell", Morticia adds, a small smile (only slightly creepy) gracing her face.
"I'm engaged", Wednesday says with a sigh, as if it is the most unfortunate thing in the world.
"Oh my dear girl, you've found your soulmate just like your mother and I, that is so wonderful. I knew you would!" Gomez said gleefully, a grin twisting his mustache upward.
"Yes, I that werewolf is a wonderful match for you", Morticia adds, with an approving sort of nod. Even Lurch grunts in agreement in the background.
If anyone has ever heard of a metaphorical lightbulb turning on in the brain, then they would know that all the lights turned off in Wednesday's brain at that moment, leaving deep, dark, rage. "Wait. How did you know it was Enid?"
"Oops", Morticia says, smile not faltering in the slightest as she puts a hand to her lips, feigning an accident.
"You two planned this didn't you? This whole thing! The two of you were the ones who planted that book in my luggage", Wednesday accused. Which meant Enid never meant to propose. Her face paled ten more degrees. It was whiter than paper. Oh, the horror. No, not even horror because that would be enjoyable. This was not enjoyable whatsoever.
"So what if we gave you a little nudge in the right direction?" Morticia replied, not at all remorseful, reaching out as if to touch Wednesday through the crystal ball.
Wednesday recoiled, leaning back away as much as she could in her chair. "This is manipulation of the wrong kind!" Mind racing, Wednesday flipped through her memories of her recent interactions with Enid, realizing just how much of her actions could've been one sided after all. Was Enid just playing along? She probably didn't even want to tell her parents of an accidental engagement. Wednesday certainly wouldn't. She would burn it as a secret to the deepest dark depths of hell if she accidentally proposed to somebody.
"What is done is done. We'd love to have Enid over this weekend when you come back to visit", Morticia has the nerve to offer.
"No. I have to fix this right now." Wednesday severed the connection on the crystal ball.

"Wednesday, didn't we agree that you shouldn't change how you act for me?"
Wednesday tilted her head to the side, confused what this had to do with anything. "Yes."
"Then why are we going on a date to the trendiest restaurant in Jericho?" Enid said, arms crossed over her bright pink fuzzy sweater. It wasn't that Enid didn't appreciate it, in fact she'd gotten dressed up all cute with a skirt for this too. It was just that she had a sneaking feeling Wednesday wasn't quite being herself. This restaurant confirmed it.
The restaurant had all sorts of bright with a neon sign sitting over the top of it. The place itself was filled to the brim with the high schoolers of Jericho, ordering greasy food like burgers and fries.
Enid didn't expect Wednesday to take her to a five course meal type of restaurant, but this didn't match Wednesday's usually elegant way of eating. She would know, because Enid had caught herself watching Wednesday eat one too many times. The way her lips opened, and her white teeth glinted, the way she wielded her knife against the food. It was hard for Enid not to stare.
"This isn't a date", Wednesday replies, turning her head to look at the restaurant with distaste. If it weren't for Enid she'd never be caught within 20 feet of this building.
"Then what is this? You asked me, to go out with you. I don't think here's any way to misinterpret that right?" Enid throws up her hands, perplexed. Rightfully, Enid was tired of the guessing games, the cryptic words that were never quite defined as romantic intentions or just a friendly (or deadly) afterthought.
"I wanted to take you a place where you would enjoy before I-" The words slipped out of Wednesday's mouth before she could stop herself. She grits her teeth, cursing herself for being careless with her words.
"Before you, what, Wednesday?" Enid's voice was small, scared, and her face reflected that. Wednesday would rather her heart be pierced by a stake than to have to continue seeing that face on Enid. It hurt in the wrong way.
Taking a deep breath, Wednesday's shoulders drop. "Before I apologized. For misunderstanding that day in the cemetery. I'm sorry for acting too intimately towards you. I'll cease at once now that I know that the book was planted by my parents."
"What do you mean acting 'too intimately' to me? You're my fiancée!" Enid protested, her voice raising.
Wednesday winced at her words, wishing that she truly was what Enid had called her. To the devastation of her icy heart, she knew now that it was just an illusion she had conjured up. "Am I? Or was it just one big misunderstanding?"
"Wednesday… are you breaking up with me? Now? After I told my parents?" Enid's voice shakes, lips quivering as unshod tears shine in her eyes.
"I'm sorry I misunderstood", Wednesday murmured, staring down at the asphalt, unable to bear the look Enid wore. She hated apologizing, but this time Wednesday felt like no amount of apologies would make up for her misunderstanding.
"I'm sorry isn't enough! You played with my heart. My feelings. Me! It's not about misunderstanding, it's about what we did after that misunderstanding", Enid cried, tears streaming down her face.
"It wasn't real!" Wednesday forcefully attempted to justify herself.
"It was real to me!" Voice cracking, Enid was half sobbing, half shouting through the sentence.
The truth hit Wednesday like Enid tackling the Hyde - with insurmountable force. "It was real to me too", she said, barely a whisper. In the end, they had both treated this as something real. That made it more real than the marriages that many people fooled themselves into thinking they were happy with.
"Then why are you doing this?" Enid answers in a hushed voice, scared for the next answer.
"I thought I had ignored your feelings again by accident, and only thought about myself." Wednesday had only meant to prevent Enid from leaving her again, to prevent herself from hurting Enid with her ignorance.
"No, I did it all because I love you, φεγγαρι μου (my moon)." The words simply slipped out of her mouth as she went to reassure Wednesday. It wasn't until after she finished her sentence that her eyes widened, realizing she had confessed her love.
By the stunned look on Wednesday's face she hadn't missed Enid's accidental confession. Slowly, Wednesday's face morphed into another expression that Enid could not read because she had never seen it before. Wednesday's eyes shone as if she was planning something devious, except there was no signature smirk painted on her face.
"Cara Mia." Wednesday breathed out the two words as if it was a part of her breathing, the most natural sounding thing to ever come from her. It was full of breathless wonder. Gracefully, Wednesday knelt on one knee. "I confess I am not easy. But if you would have me I would love to continue what we have, however messy."
Half laughing, half crying, Enid grabbed Wednesday's hand, yanking her up into a hug. It takes Wednesday a second to relax, but when she does, her arms come up to wrap around Enid, as tight as humanly comfortable. It is an unfamiliar move, and Wednesday finds herself second guessing. Was she hugging too tight? Too loose? Did it convey the hundreds of thousands of words worth of emotions she was trying to pour into this hug?
"I'm not looking for easy."
The worries simply melted away. Wednesday decided she liked, no, she loved this warm feeling when it came from Enid.
Notes:This will be the last update before my upcoming surgery.
The next chapter should be the last, but it may take two or three weeks before I can finish it and publish it.
I plan on writing at least one spin off oneshot, like maybe wenclair chaperoning Pugsley's prom and all sorts of humor and jealousy ensuing.
