It was a missing person flyer, and there were more of them. Each one carried a sketch of a man's face — and the name printed beneath it read: Dr. Benjamin Nystrom.
A family passing through had carried a stack of papers in the bottom of their basket, wrapping for the food containers they'd packed for the road. A few sheets had already been discarded near the path. Another had been used to wipe down a surface and left behind at one of the cooking fires. Some of the pilgrims mentioned how handsome the man on the paper was and that it was a shame. Some of the pilgrims worried. And some hadn't thought anything of them. Paper was paper.
Benjamin picked up one, then another. He stood very still for a moment.
Wren took the nearest sheet from his hand without a word. He studied it, then set it aside. He didn't look surprised.
