Benjamin lay still and listened to Wren breathe behind him. He faced the wall. Wren had fallen asleep with his arms around him, and hadn't crossed any line he said he wouldn't.
He missed Charles. But this, here with Wren, also felt like something. His mind was a blur. Slowly, the sound of Wren's breathing pulled him under.
By morning, Wren was gone. Benjamin dressed himself and found him waiting at a table laid with food. They didn't say much. Wren asked to walk afterwards, and Benjamin agreed.
"Benjamin." Wren didn't look at him. "Will you wait for me? I don't know what will happen. But I know, whatever it is, I'll try. I'll change."
Benjamin didn't look at him, and only nodded sheepishly. "You know where you can find me," Benjamin replied quietly.
He didn't know what awaited Wren. Something dangerous, most likely. The worry sat in his chest alongside the knowledge that Wren had to answer for what he had done. Both things were true, and neither cancelled the other out.
