Chapter 16 - Chapter 15: The Hunter's Shadow.

The trio emerged from the subway tunnel into the cool night air of Shinjuku. Streetlights buzzed overhead. Distant traffic hummed. But the silence between them felt heavier than the fight they had just won.

Haruto walked ahead, hands in pockets, the new weight of Tenebrae Lv.3 settling into his bones like an old friend returning home. The rune on his palm had gone quiet—for now.

Miya caught up, matching his stride.

"That anchor point… destroying it weakened the network. But Joker got away. Again."

Yuki flanked her, ice still faintly shimmering on his fingertips.

"He's not just playing. He's testing us. Or reporting back."

Haruto didn't slow.

"He's a pawn. Nox is the one pulling strings."

Miya glanced at him.

"You really think Nox crossed worlds? That he's here?"

Haruto's red eyes flicked to the sky.

"I felt him. In every Echo. In the rune. He's not fully here yet… but he's coming."

They reached a small park—empty benches, a single streetlamp casting long shadows.

Haruto stopped.

"We need to move faster. Find the next anchor before he does."

Yuki crossed his arms.

"And how? The Guild map only shows patterns. Not exact locations."

Haruto pulled out the crushed remnants of Joker's card—still faintly green.

"This. It left a trace. Probability manipulation… it's not just illusions. It bends chance. I can use it."

Miya frowned.

"Dangerous. You don't know the cost."

Haruto crushed the fragments tighter.

"I know the cost of waiting."

He opened his palm.

The green dust swirled—slow at first, then faster.

**[Tenebrae Lv.3 synergy detected with Probability Manipulation trace.]**

**[Temporary Skill Unlocked: Void Chance (10 minutes). Effect: Manipulate probability in a 50m radius. Success rate of actions increased by 30–70%. Cooldown: 24 hours after use.]**

Haruto exhaled.

The dust settled into a faint green thread—leading north, toward Ikebukuro.

"There."

Yuki raised an eyebrow.

"You're sure?"

Haruto started walking.

"No. But it's a start."

They followed.

The thread guided them through backstreets, under overpasses, past shuttered shops. The city felt different now—alive with unseen eyes.

Halfway there, the thread pulsed.

A figure stepped out from an alley.

Tall. White hair. Golden eyes. Elegant black coat with silver embroidery.

Rin Tsururugi.

S-rank.

The Ice Blade Sovereign.

He blocked their path—sword sheathed, but aura cold enough to frost the pavement.

"Haruto Sasaki."

His voice was calm. Precise.

"The unregistered anomaly who erased an A-rank boss. And now… destroying anchor points."

Haruto stopped.

Miya and Yuki tensed beside him.

Rin's golden eyes swept over them.

"The Guild sent me. Ren Ao requested discretion. But I prefer directness."

He looked straight at Haruto.

"You carry a power that doesn't belong here. And you're cutting threads someone very powerful has woven."

Haruto met the gaze.

"And you're here to stop me?"

Rin's lips curved—faint, almost sad.

"No. I'm here to see if you're worthy of continuing."

He drew his sword halfway—blade pure white, frost forming along the edge.

"Show me."

Haruto stepped forward.

Miya grabbed his arm.

"Wait—"

Haruto shook his head.

"Let him."

He raised his hand.

**[Tenebrae Lv.3 – Void Dominion (partial).]**

Black mist coiled around him—thicker, alive.

Rin's eyes narrowed.

"Interesting."

He finished drawing the sword.

Ice exploded outward—blades of frost spiraling toward Haruto.

Haruto moved.

**[Dragon Variant – Crushing Sky Dragon.]**

Crimson scales flared. He blurred forward.

Ice shattered against shadow.

They clashed—sword met fist.

Frost met flame.

The ground cracked.

Miya and Yuki held back—watching.

Rin's strikes were precise—every swing a masterpiece of control.

But Haruto's power was raw. Unyielding.

**[Void Chance activated.]**

Probability bent.

Rin's next strike missed—by a hair.

Haruto countered.

**[Judgment Blade – Lv.3.]**

Silver crescent sliced forward.

Rin blocked—barely.

The impact sent him sliding back three meters.

Ice cracked under his feet.

Rin lowered his sword.

A small smile.

"Enough."

He sheathed it.

"You're not just strong. You're… inevitable."

Haruto let the mist fade.

Rin looked at the three of them.

"The Guild will look the other way—for now. But if you fail… the S-ranks won't."

He turned to leave.

One last word.

"Find the source before it finds you."

He vanished into the night.

Miya exhaled.

"That was Rin Tsururugi. One of the strongest."

Yuki smirked.

"And he backed off."

Haruto stared after him.

The green thread pulsed again—stronger.

Ikebukuro.

The next anchor.

Haruto started walking.

"We're close."

Miya and Yuki fell in beside him.

The city lights stretched ahead.

But the darkness between them had grown eyes.

And they were watching.
