Chapter 20 - Chapter 19: The Breaking Point.

The safehouse in Nakano felt smaller after the third anchor's destruction. The air was thick with leftover Aether—faint purple motes still drifting like ash. Haruto sat on the floor, back against the wall, staring at his palm. The rune had changed again. The crimson-black threads now wove deeper, almost forming a pattern. A spiral. A cage.

Miya paced near the window, sword resting against her shoulder.

"Forty percent. We've cut nearly half the network. Gates are destabilizing worldwide—reports are coming in from Osaka, Kyoto, even overseas. The Guild is panicking."

Yuki leaned against the door, arms crossed, ice faintly tracing the frame.

"But Nox isn't panicking. He's accelerating. The Echoes are getting stronger. Smarter."

Haruto finally spoke.

"He's running out of time. Every anchor we break weakens his connection to this world. But it also feeds the rune. Feeds me."

He lifted his hand.

The spiral glowed—soft at first, then brighter.

**[System Alert: Nox Resonance – Critical Threshold approaching. Rune evolution imminent. Final anchor destruction will trigger the Choice.]**

Miya stopped pacing.

"The Choice. From your last fragment."

Haruto nodded.

"Absorb him. Or be absorbed."

Yuki's eyes narrowed.

"And if you absorb him?"

Haruto's voice was quiet.

"I become what he is. The end of everything. The Purge Sovereign."

Miya stepped closer.

"And if he absorbs you?"

Haruto met her gaze.

"This world ends. Gates everywhere. No hunters. No humanity. Just him."

Silence.

Then Yuki pushed off the door.

"Then we make sure you win."

Haruto looked between them.

"You don't understand. The Choice isn't about winning. It's about what I become after."

Miya knelt in front of him.

"Then we help you choose the right one."

She placed her hand over his—the rune pulsed under her touch.

Lightning arced—soft, blue-white.

Yuki joined, ice forming a thin layer around their hands.

Cryo-void and void storm mingled.

The rune flared—bright, painful.

Haruto gasped.

A new vision hit.

Not a fragment.

A convergence.

Nox—full form—standing in a void between worlds. Purple flames. Obsidian skin. Smiling.

"You think you can defy the divine bargain? The mark was never a curse. It was a gift. Power for a price."

Haruto's voice echoed in the vision.

"I never asked for it."

Nox laughed.

"You asked to live. To come back. To avenge. This is the price."

The vision shifted.

Haruto saw himself—two versions.

One: eyes pure crimson-black, Tenebrae covering him like armor, ruling a broken world. Sovereign of the Apocalypse.

The other: eyes still red, but calm. Rune gone. Power contained. A guardian. A protector.

Nox's voice.

"Choose."

The vision ended.

Haruto blinked—sweat on his brow.

Miya and Yuki pulled back.

"What did you see?"

Haruto exhaled slowly.

"The endgame. Two paths. One destroys. One… saves."

Yuki's voice was hard.

"Then we make sure you take the second."

Miya nodded.

"But first… we finish the anchors."

Haruto stood.

"The Guild map updated. Fourth anchor: Yokohama harbor. Massive energy spike. It's the strongest yet."

He looked at them.

"If we break this one… the Choice comes."

Miya sheathed her sword.

"Then we break it. And we face whatever comes after. Together."

Yuki formed a thin ice blade—now threaded with void.

"Together."

Haruto clenched his fist.

The rune pulsed—one last time.

A faint green glow watched from outside the window.

Joker's cracked mask tilted.

"Four down."

He vanished.

The trio left the safehouse.

Yokohama waited.

The sea wind carried whispers.

The final threads were pulling taut.

And the choice loomed.

Closer than ever.
