Seasoned With Love
Season 3 – Episode 4: "The Moment Everything Stops"
Amara's POV
Lunch rush at the restaurant is loud in the best way.
Plates clinking.
Marcus calling orders.
Rose coordinating the front like a conductor.
And me… moving slower than usual, but still moving.
Luke had been watching me all morning.
Not in an obvious way.
But in that careful Luke way.
The one where he notices everything.
I caught him doing it again while I was checking a delivery.
"Luke," I said without looking up, "I am fine."
"I didn't say anything."
"You didn't have to."
Marcus laughed from the kitchen.
"He definitely didn't."
Luke ignored him.
"I'm just making sure Amara is pacing herself."
Rose whispered to a hostess,
"He's been like this for weeks."
"I can hear you," Luke said calmly.
I smiled a little.
Honestly… I liked that he cared this much.
But I also wanted things to feel normal.
I walked toward the dining room, greeting a few regulars.
"Everything tasting good today?"
One customer smiled.
"Best in the city."
Marcus shouted from the kitchen,
"You hear that?!"
Rose rolled her eyes.
And then—
It happened.
At first, it was small.
Just a wave of dizziness.
I paused.
Put a hand on the back of a chair.
Luke noticed immediately.
He was already walking toward me.
"Amara?"
"I'm okay," I said quickly.
But the room tilted again.
Just for a second.
And my breath caught.
Luke's voice changed instantly.
That calm tone disappeared.
"Amara, sit down."
"I'm fine—"
"Sit."
Rose was already moving a chair behind me.
"Sit, Amara."
I sat.
Customers started noticing.
The room got quieter.
Marcus came out of the kitchen, wiping his hands.
"What happened?"
"I'm fine," I repeated.
But Luke was kneeling beside me now.
And I had never seen his face like that before.
Not worried.
Scared.
Real fear.
"Amara, talk to me."
"I just got lightheaded."
Rose crouched beside us.
"That can happen."
Marcus nodded.
"Yeah, my sister had that when she was pregnant."
But Luke wasn't reassured.
His hand was steady on mine, but I could feel tension in it.
"Are you in pain?"
"No."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, Luke."
A customer near the window stood up.
"I'm a nurse. Do you want me to check her blood pressure?"
Rose looked at me.
I nodded.
"Okay."
The woman stepped closer gently.
"Hi, I'm just going to take a quick look."
Luke helped me move my arm onto the table.
His eyes never left my face.
And suddenly I realized something.
Luke wasn't just worried.
He was imagining the worst.
The nurse smiled after a moment.
"Her pressure's a little low. That's actually common."
Marcus exhaled.
Rose nodded.
"Okay, that makes sense."
But Luke still looked shaken.
The nurse added kindly,
"She probably just needs to sit, hydrate, and eat something."
Rose immediately grabbed water.
Marcus said,
"I'm bringing food."
Luke finally spoke again.
Very quietly.
"Amara scared Luke."
I squeezed his hand.
"I'm okay."
He didn't answer right away.
The dining room slowly returned to normal.
Customers giving us space.
But Luke stayed right there.
Still kneeling beside my chair.
Like moving would break something.
I leaned closer.
"Luke."
He looked at me.
"Look at me."
He did.
"I'm alright."
He exhaled slowly.
But I could tell his mind was still racing.
Rose noticed too.
She stood up.
"Marcus, handle the floor for a bit."
Marcus nodded.
"Got it."
Rose looked at Luke.
"Take her to the office."
Luke didn't argue.
That alone told me how serious this felt to him.
He helped me stand slowly.
His hand firm around mine.
We walked into the back office.
The noise of the restaurant muffled behind the door.
Luke closed it.
And for a second, he just stood there.
Then he ran a hand over his face.
"I didn't like that."
"I know."
"That scared Luke."
I walked closer to him.
"It scared me a little too."
He looked at me sharply.
"Why didn't you say that?"
"Because I didn't want you to panic."
He let out a small laugh.
"Too late."
I touched his arm.
"Luke."
His voice softened.
"I thought something was wrong with you. With the baby."
That word hung in the air.
Baby.
I stepped closer.
"There isn't."
He nodded slowly.
"I know that now."
But his expression was still heavy.
"You know what scared me the most?" he said quietly.
"What?"
"That I couldn't control it."
There it was again.
Luke and control.
I smiled gently.
"You can't control everything."
He sighed.
"I know."
I took his hands.
"But Luke can stand beside Amara."
He looked at me.
"And Amara can sit down when she needs to."
I smiled.
"Deal."
He finally relaxed a little.
Then he said something that surprised me.
"I almost closed the restaurant just now."
I blinked.
"You what?"
"I didn't care about the lunch rush."
I laughed softly.
"That would've caused a riot."
"I didn't care."
I shook my head.
"You're dramatic."
He smirked slightly.
"Only when it comes to Amara."
We stood there quietly for a moment.
Then Rose opened the door halfway.
"You two alive in here?"
"Yes," I called.
Rose looked at Luke.
"You good?"
Luke nodded.
"Yeah."
Rose studied him carefully.
She saw it.
The fear.
Then she said something only Rose would say.
"Welcome to parenthood."
Luke blinked.
Marcus shouted from the kitchen,
"Everything's under control out here!"
Rose smiled.
"See?"
I looked at Luke again.
"You survived."
He squeezed my hand.
"Barely."
And then he leaned closer and whispered,
"Don't scare Luke like that again."
I laughed.
"No promises."
