Chapter 61 - Chapter 61: The Weakest Pokémon?

"That attack is totally manageable!"

Emma's eyes shone with confidence.

"Lapras, use Water Gun!"

"Elekid, Thunder Shock!"

Both Trainers reacted instantly.

Blue light gathered in Lapras's mouth before a focused stream of water shot forward.

At the same time, golden electricity crackled around Elekid's body.

Water Gun hit first.

The stream slammed directly into Elekid.

But as the water connected—

The electricity traveled back along the stream.

Lapras flinched, sparks spreading briefly across its body.

Still—

The sheer force of Water Gun blasted Elekid backward.

It skidded across the ground before barely catching itself.

Emma frowned slightly.

"That was a little careless…"

But after observing Lapras carefully, she relaxed.

Even with Electric-type advantage, one Thunder Shock wasn't enough to bring Lapras down.

"My baby is sturdy," she muttered proudly.

Across the field, Liam's expression wasn't as relaxed.

Elekid pushed itself up, clearly hurt.

Water-type moves didn't get resisted by Electric-types.

And Lapras had raw power.

Ren spoke calmly from the side.

"Electric beats Water. But Electric doesn't resist Water."

"Water Gun still deals full damage."

Restraint and resistance were different mechanics.

And Lapras wasn't just Water-type—

It also had Ice-type coverage.

Liam narrowed his eyes.

"Elekid. Use Quick Attack. Keep moving."

White light flared again as Elekid dashed forward in a blur.

"Lapras, hold steady," Emma said calmly.

She wasn't rushing.

Lapras wasn't fast on land—but it didn't need to be.

"Lapras. Sing."

A soft melody drifted across the battlefield.

Elekid's movements slowed slightly.

Emma's intention was obvious.

"If Elekid doesn't interrupt, it'll fall asleep," Ava murmured.

"And if it attacks, it runs into Lapras' counter," Lily added.

Ren nodded lightly.

"Good pressure tactic."

Emma was forcing Liam to choose.

Liam clenched his jaw.

"Elekid! Thunder Shock!"

Elekid stopped behind Lapras, electricity surging violently.

"Lapras—Dry Freeze!"

Lapras turned sharply.

A wave of intense cold exploded outward.

Beautiful frost spiraled forward.

Thunder Shock collided with Dry Freeze mid-air.

For a split second—

Electricity and ice clashed.

Then—

The frost overwhelmed the lightning.

Dry Freeze broke through and engulfed Elekid.

Ice spread across its body instantly.

Elekid cried out before collapsing onto the ground.

Frozen mist lingered in the air.

"Elekid is unable to battle," Ren announced after checking carefully. "Lapras wins."

Ava stared.

"That's… insanely strong."

Emma couldn't stop smiling.

She hugged Lapras's neck tightly.

"You're amazing!"

Lily clicked her tongue.

"So smug…"

Ren added calmly,

"Dry Freeze is one of the strongest Ice-type moves. It's especially effective in neutral matchups like this."

He looked at Liam.

"Don't worry. Just use the healing machine. About thirty minutes."

Liam nodded, though he looked disappointed.

Back inside the shop, he carefully placed Elekid's Poké Ball into the healing machine under Ren's guidance.

The machine hummed to life.

Ava stared at it in fascination.

"This is like black technology."

Ren just smiled mysteriously.

Even he didn't understand how it worked.

Liam stood quietly.

Losing didn't feel good.

Then—

His phone vibrated.

The Pokémon House group chat exploded with messages.

Emma: Just defeated a challenger. Anyone else?

Emma: My Lapras is warming up~

Larvitar: That fast? Who lost?

Lucas: Someone's skipping work again.

Miya: I want to battle too…

Others: She's so arrogant…

Liam's face darkened.

He slowly looked up.

"Ren."

"Yes?"

"I'm drawing another Pokémon."

His voice was firm.

"I refuse to accept this."

Lily blinked.

Ava covered her mouth, trying not to laugh.

Emma, meanwhile, was happily feeding Lapras water, completely unbothered.

Ren handed Liam the Store Manager Pokédex.

"You know the process."

Liam took it solemnly.

He inhaled deeply.

"I don't need a juvenile-stage monster," he muttered. "Just give me an SR. Something not weaker than Lapras."

He pressed the button.

Shadows spun rapidly across the screen.

Everyone gathered around.

Even Emma leaned in.

The spinning slowed.

Slower.

Slower.

It stopped.

An orange fish appeared on the screen.

Ren raised an eyebrow.

"Oh."

He looked at Liam.

"Congratulations."

"You've drawn Magikarp."

He paused deliberately.

"Widely recognized as the weakest Pokémon in the world."

Silence.

Absolute silence.

Liam stared at the screen.

"…What?"

Lily burst out laughing.

Ava couldn't hold it anymore.

Emma blinked, then covered her mouth.

Ren added gently,

"It only knows Splash."

"And Tackle."

Liam looked like his soul had left his body.

A moment ago, he was burning with determination.

Now—

He was holding a Pokédex displaying a fish famous for doing nothing.

The healing machine hummed quietly in the background.

Emma whispered dramatically,

Lily wiped tears from her eyes.

"Lapras vs Magikarp next?"

Liam clenched his fists.

"…I refuse to believe this."

Ren smiled faintly.

But in his eyes—

There was the slightest trace of amusement.

Because sometimes—

The weakest Pokémon…

Could evolve into something terrifying.
