Chapter 62 - Chapter 62: The Carp That Jumps the Dragon Gate

"The weakest Pokémon in the world…"

Those words hit Liam like a lightning strike.

He froze.

Completely.

Not only did he fail to pull an SR—

He pulled the weakest Pokémon alive.

"…This is too much."

Ren looked at him with mild concern.

"Are you alright?"

"I'm fine," Liam replied stiffly.

He was not fine.

His heart hurt.

His soul felt hollow.

He stared at the red fish displayed on the Pokédex screen.

Magikarp.

Why?

Lily leaned closer, curious.

"Is this the one you mentioned before? The one together with Feebas?"

Ren nodded.

"Yes. Similar situation."

"Feebas was once called the ugliest Pokémon in the world. But after evolving into Milotic, it became known as the most beautiful."

He paused.

"Magikarp is even weaker than Feebas."

Liam's expression darkened further.

"But."

Ren's tone changed slightly.

"When Magikarp evolves into Gyarados, its power skyrockets."

"It's considered a top-tier Water-type Pokémon."

Liam blinked.

"Gyarados…?"

He caught the word.

"Dragon?"

Lily widened her eyes.

"Wait, it becomes a dragon?"

Ren shook his head.

"Not an actual Dragon-type."

"It just has 'dragon' in the name."

"But visually… it does resemble a mythical sea dragon."

He hesitated.

"…Maybe ten percent."

He refused to compare it too much to traditional Eastern dragons.

Gyarados looked fierce.

And slightly terrifying.

"Is it really that strong?" Liam asked quietly.

Ren nodded.

"In pure combat ability? Yes."

"It has a severe weakness to Electric-type attacks. Four times weakness."

"But many powerful Pokémon have extreme weaknesses."

"Strength isn't erased by a flaw."

Liam stared at Magikarp again.

It looked useless.

Absolutely useless.

"Magikarp isn't easy to evolve," Ren continued calmly. "It requires patience."

"But if you take care of it properly… it will repay you."

"And the price is low. So I personally recommend keeping it."

Ren rarely spoke this directly.

But Magikarp was different.

Its potential was enormous.

Even if it didn't evolve soon—

The system guaranteed strong growth quality.

Liam took a deep breath.

"…Alright. I'll keep it."

"Good choice," Ren said with a faint smile.

A moment later, he returned carrying a large transparent bucket.

Inside, a red-scaled fish lay calmly in clear water.

It was bigger than expected.

Lily blinked.

"If we steamed it… would it taste good?"

Emma stared at her.

Ren sighed.

"That thought is dangerous."

Lily rolled her eyes.

"I'm joking. I don't even like fish."

Ren relaxed slightly.

Pokémon were intelligent creatures.

While some Pokémon in the wild world could technically be used as food—

He personally disliked that idea.

Lily scanned it with the Pokédex.

"Magikarp. Water-type. Fish Pokémon.

Ability: Swift Swim.

Move: Splash.

Famous for being unreliable. Extremely weak in power and speed. Known as the weakest Pokémon in the world."

Ava looked stunned.

"Even the Pokédex is insulting it…"

Lily tapped the move description.

"Splash."

"Does nothing but flop around. No damage dealt."

"…That's impressive in a terrible way."

Ren nodded.

"Magikarp are weak physically and mentally."

"But their survival and reproduction abilities are extremely strong."

"That's probably nature's compensation."

Liam looked at Magikarp quietly.

"It's fine."

"I'll raise it properly."

Even if it was weak now—

He would turn it into something powerful.

Ren gave him an approving look.

"That's the spirit."

"Price is fifty thousand."

"Cheap…" Ava muttered.

Liam paid without hesitation.

He also bought Water-type energy cubes.

Then—

He turned back to Ren.

"I'm drawing again."

Emma blinked.

"You're not giving up?"

"Magikarp has potential," Liam said calmly. "But right now… it's useless."

Ren nodded.

"Go ahead."

Ava leaned closer.

"Brother… take it easy."

Liam replied quietly,

"I already got my bank card back."

There was fire in his eyes.

He would not leave today in humiliation.

Just as he reached for the Pokédex—

Beep. Beep.

A soft alert sound came from the corner of the shop.

Ren paused.

"…Right."

He suddenly remembered something.

He walked quickly to an incubator nearby.

"I almost forgot about this little guy."

He carefully lifted a gently shaking Pokémon Egg.

The others gathered around.

"What is that?" Emma asked.

"A Pokémon Egg," Ren explained.

"All Pokémon are born from eggs."

The Egg trembled more violently now.

Fine cracks began forming across its surface.

Lily's eyes lit up.

"So what Pokémon is inside?"

Ren shook his head.

"We'll know in a moment."

More cracks spread.

A faint glow leaked from inside.

Ren watched closely.

The system had provided this Egg.

He didn't know what would hatch.

But—

He hoped.

Maybe something powerful.

Maybe something rare.

The Egg shook harder.

Crack.

A piece of shell broke away.

Light burst from within.

Everyone leaned forward—

Holding their breath.
