Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: Pokémon Home

"Hey—"

Another customer was sent off, someone who had come lured by the prices but ultimately backed out because of them. Ren shook his head helplessly.

That customer had drawn Growlithe. He said he liked Pokémon that were obedient and cute, but when he heard the price—300,000 yuan—he was scared off on the spot.

"It's already eight o'clock. Almost time to close up."

Ren glanced at his watch. It was already eight in the evening.

He locked the door of Pokémon Home and returned to the front counter.

"Types, abilities, evolution paths, Poké Balls, basic training knowledge… and battle details?"

Ren typed rapidly with both hands, recalling every bit of Pokémon-related knowledge he could remember.

He planned to compile a new Pokémon guidebook and give it to customers who purchased Pokémon, so they could learn on their own.

Otherwise, once they encountered problems later, they'd come back asking him to explain everything in detail. He didn't mind the work, but it was undeniably troublesome.

"Held items… forget it, I'll write those down too. They'll come up sooner or later."

Pokémon items were actually even more important over the course of a Trainer's career. Strictly speaking, Poké Balls themselves could be considered a category of held items.

There were also Fire Stones, Thunder Stones, Potions, and many others that would definitely be needed in the future.

"Ren, would you like some tea? Take a short break."

Dianxi came trotting over with a cup of tea, speaking with concern.

"Thanks. My little princess is so thoughtful."

Ren accepted the tea and teased her lightly.

"Ren, don't tease me like that…"

Dianxi covered her face in embarrassment. Princess or anything like that—it was too much.

...

Jason's Home

"Is this the Pokémon you bought today?"

A young man with thick eyebrows and large eyes stared at the Vulpix lying comfortably on the cushion, his expression strange.

If he hadn't just touched it himself, he might have suspected he was hallucinating.

"Yes, cousin—and Vulpix is amazing! Today, I even commanded it to defeat a Charmander!"

Jason pushed up his glasses, pride written all over his face.

"Charmander?"

Lucas's mouth twitched. He started wondering whether his cousin had finally gone strange from playing too many games.

Sure, the Vulpix really did look unusual—but the world was full of strange things.

Genetic mutations, while extremely rare, weren't impossible.

But what on earth was a Charmander?

"Cousin, don't doubt it—it's real. Look at this!"

Seeing Lucas's expression, Jason instantly guessed what he was thinking. He quickly opened his computer browser, went to Bilibili, and pulled up a video.

"Hm?"

Lucas leaned over.

The video's title read: An Epic Battle Between Two Heavyweight Trainers!

"Trainers?"

Lucas raised an eyebrow. What was this supposed to be?

The video began inside a room.

"Come on, little sister! I'll be your opponent!"

"I'm a professional gamer—my Vulpix can definitely do this too!"

A young male voice rang out, confident and clear.

But the moment Lucas heard it, he glanced at Jason with a strange look. He could immediately tell—it was his cousin's voice.

"Ahem… that's not the point. Cousin, keep watching."

Jason coughed awkwardly.

At the time, he hadn't thought much of it, but now, watching from a spectator's perspective… that was from years ago. How could he have said something as embarrassing as I'll be your opponent? What was he thinking?

Lucas curled the corners of his mouth slightly and continued watching.

"Alright then—my Charmander won't lose to a fox!"

A confident female voice rang out immediately after Jason finished speaking.

The camera shifted to a more spacious area.

Then the owner of that voice appeared on screen—Jason, wearing glasses, and across from him, a youthful and energetic girl: Lily.

Beside them stood Charmander and Vulpix.

"So this is the Charmander you were talking about?"

Lucas's gaze landed on the small Fire-type Pokémon. His eyes flickered with interest as he asked.

"Yes—but it's far inferior to my Vulpix!"

Jason nodded, then bragged about his little fox without restraint.

Charmander? So what if it evolved into a dragon later?

A joke.

His fox would become a Ninetales in the future!

Lucas stroked his chin and didn't speak further, growing increasingly curious about what would happen next.

What exactly were these two about to do?

In the video, a calm male voice announced the rules of the battle.

The girl made a mistake by not preparing properly. Before the battle began, she took out a Pokédex to check Charmander's moves.

Seizing the opportunity, Jason ordered Vulpix to attack first.

"What?!"

Under Lucas's shocked gaze, the Vulpix in the video spat small fireballs straight at Charmander.

It breathed fire.

It actually breathed fire!

"Jason… is this video real?"

Lucas subconsciously looked at the Vulpix sleeping peacefully on the cushion and asked in disbelief.

"Of course it's real. The boss had Dianxi record it on the spot. Cousin, didn't I tell you? My Vulpix is really strong."

Jason answered proudly.

My Vulpix—invincible.

Lucas's heart was in turmoil.

This wasn't just strong. It was absurd.

"Cousin, don't rush. Keep watching—wait until you see my heroic performance."

Seeing how shaken Lucas was, Jason calmly adjusted his glasses and spoke confidently.

Look at that shocked expression—couldn't even keep his composure.

And… who was Dianxi?

Lucas was full of confusion, but he suppressed his questions and continued watching the video.
