Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: Sixty Million

"The price of this Larvitar is sixty million."

Jason pushed up his glasses and repeated it calmly.

Even though Larvitar wasn't his Pokémon, it was his cousin's. What was wrong with feeling a little proud?

"Boss… is that really true?"

She had heard it clearly this time—there was no mistake—but Lily still couldn't quite believe it.

Her Charmander and Trapinch together had only cost 250,000.

And this small, green, dinosaur-like Pokémon was worth two hundred and fifty times more than Charmander?

This was completely unreasonable.

"It's true," Ren nodded and confirmed. "Larvitar's price is indeed sixty million. And that's already the discounted price."

Hiss—

Emma instinctively covered her mouth in shock.

"N-no… why?" Lily frowned deeply, staring at Larvitar again. "I really don't understand. It just looks like this. Other than being a bit cute, I don't see anything special."

There was no doubt that higher prices meant rarer Pokémon—but why this little green dinosaur?

"Larvitar is a quasi-legendary Pokémon," Ren explained patiently. "Even without special training, as long as it grows naturally with sufficient nutrition, its strength will surpass most Pokémon."

"And it's also one of the rarest Pokémon in existence. That's why its price is so high."

As he spoke, Ren once again emphasized the meaning of quasi-legendary Pokémon.

"Legendary… and quasi-legendary…"

Lily's eyes lit up instantly.

Pokémon that stood just beneath Legendary Pokémon!

Once she understood that, her gaze toward Larvitar grew noticeably hotter.

So cute… I really want one.

"Boss, besides Larvitar, are there other quasi-legendary Pokémon?"

Emma was clearly interested as well. Neither her family nor Lily's lacked money. As long as they wanted to, spending tens of millions wasn't impossible—their families would never be stingy with them.

The real question was the probability.

"There are 905 Pokémon in total," Emma muttered, quickly calculating in her head. "Drawing Larvitar out of more than nine hundred… the odds are way too low."

And that was assuming equal probability.

In reality, the chance of drawing a quasi-legendary Pokémon was definitely far lower than that of an ordinary one—probably less than one in a thousand.

Jason and Lucas also perked up, listening closely.

"Of course, Larvitar isn't the only one," Ren said. "There are nine quasi-legendary Pokémon in this prize pool."

"Dratini, Larvitar, Beldum, Bagon, Gible, Deino, Goomy, Jangmo-o, and Dreepy."

Ren recalled them one by one and listed them clearly.

Strictly speaking, there should have been ten—since after the events of Legends: Arceus, Hisuian Goodra existed as a Steel/Dragon-type variant.

But since it was still fundamentally Goodra, Ren treated them as the same evolutionary line.

"So many dragons!"

Lily's eyes sparkled. Almost all of those names had "dragon" written all over them.

"There really are a lot of Dragon-types," Ren nodded. "And Dragon-type Pokémon are indeed among the strongest overall."

Aside from Larvitar and Beldum, all quasi-legendaries were Dragon-type.

Even among Legendary Pokémon, Dragons made up the majority.

"Even with nine, the probability is still extremely low…"

Emma sighed softly. The odds were better than expected, but still discouraging.

"Boss, please swipe the card first."

After listening to Ren's explanation, Lucas glanced at his phone. His father's transfer had already gone through.

"Thank you for your patronage."

A smile immediately appeared on Ren's face.

Including Jason's Fennekin, a total of 60.2 million had just been credited. He was one huge step closer to his goal of one hundred million.

After the payment was complete, Larvitar officially belonged to Lucas.

Lucas looked at the small green Pokémon playing with the two foxes and couldn't help smiling with satisfaction.

The money hurt a bit—but it was worth it.

"By the way," Ren said, returning from the counter with several items, "as the first customer to purchase a quasi-legendary Pokémon, please accept this Luxury Ball."

"There's also a Pokédex and two bags of energy cubes suitable for Rock-type Pokémon."

"And this is Mr. Jason's commemorative Poké Ball."

Ren handed the items to them.

"Boss, what's this?"

Jason looked curiously at the white ball in his hand.

Lucas, meanwhile, examined the dark red Luxury Ball. Its material was clearly special—and beautiful.

"This is a Poké Ball, used to capture Pokémon."

Lily curled her lips.

Hearing that, Jason looked even more confused.

Capture Pokémon?

"Miss Lily is right," Ren nodded. "You just need to throw the empty Poké Ball at your Pokémon to register and store them."

"One of the Poké Ball's main functions is allowing you to carry Pokémon with you at all times."

The capture function itself wasn't very meaningful right now—after all, there were no wild Pokémon in this world yet.

But that wouldn't be the case for long.

Once Ren reached one hundred million and upgraded the system, the system would transform the boundaries of Magic City—and wild Pokémon would begin to appear.

Jason decided to give it a try. He threw the white commemorative Poké Ball toward Vulpix.

Under the stunned gazes of Jason and Lucas, a red beam shot out, enveloping Vulpix and pulling it into the ball.

The ball shook twice… then went still.

Capture successful.

"Isn't this incredible?"

"…Unbelievable."

After a long moment, Jason finally snapped out of it and picked up the Poké Ball, his face still filled with disbelief. Lucas's eyes were just as shocked.

What kind of technology was this?!

"By the way, Miss Emma," Ren said, not disturbing them further. He turned to Emma and Lily. "Are the two of you planning to draw new Pokémon?"

"Ah—right!" Emma said. "Boss, we actually want to borrow your space."

"Borrow it?" Ren paused. "You mean…"

"To battle," Lily said confidently. "As a senior, I'll personally teach Emma how to become an excellent Trainer!"

She straightened up proudly, her voice crisp and full of confidence.

"..."

Ren looked at Lily with a strange expression.

This girl really was overflowing with energy—and some inexplicable self-confidence.

And since when did you become Emma's senior?

Just because you got beaten by Jason's Ninetales yesterday?
