Chapter 4 - ignoring you

His words hurt me so badly that I couldn't even sleep.

They kept echoing in my head — "Let me tell you something clearly…"

I decided not to chase him anymore.

If he cared about Kate that much, then fine. Let him.

I didn't say anything to him because I knew his situation wasn't good.

Maybe he really loved her.

Maybe he was really scared to lose her.

With a heavy heart, I started playing games on my phone just to distract myself.

That's how the night passed.

The next morning—

"Hey! Wake up and go to school!" my mom shouted.

Ugh. School. Seriously?

I got ready lazily and went with my mom.

But when we reached the school gate…

It was CLOSED.

"Fuck. I'm late," I muttered.

Ava is going to kill me.

The security uncle told me to go to the principal's office. Thankfully, my father has a good connection with the principal, so he allowed me to enter even though I was late.

When I finally entered my classroom, I saw Ava.

"Hii, Kelly!" she said excitedly.

"Oh hey, Ava!" I replied.

"Girl! You're so late. I thought you weren't coming today!"

"Well… I am here," I laughed.

Then I told her everything that happened between me and Max. I trusted her. I knew she wouldn't tell anyone.

She sighed. "Bruhh, girl. I told you not to trust someone so easily."

Before I could reply, the bell rang.

The teacher announced that in the next period, Section A and Section B would combine.

Great.

Now I have to face Max and Kate.

Before I could even prepare myself, Ava dragged me to the other classroom.

We walked toward our favorite last bench seat and—

What the hell.

Max was sitting in my seat.

I froze.

I didn't want to face him, so I ignored it.

Ava kept her bag behind Kate's bench, but Kate stopped her.

"Don't sit there. Sit behind that bench."

And then she smirked at me.

Why?

I felt disgusted. I gave her a cold look and sat beside Ava.

I was already feeling uneasy. I stepped outside for a moment to calm myself.

When I came back…

Max was sitting behind a girl named Katie. She always had that attitude look on her face.

And Max was talking to her.

Laughing.

He told me he couldn't talk to me in school because Kate would kill him.

But now he was laughing with Katie?

Fine.

I ignored them.

Ava and I started talking like nothing mattered.

The bell rang, and we went back to our class. After a few periods, the classes were combined again.

This time, Ava was sitting behind me with her other friend. I was sitting with Aria. On the bench beside ours, Kate was sitting, and Max was right behind her.

He was talking to her.

Smiling.

Maintaining eye contact.

I ignored it and continued sitting beside Aria. We started laughing and talking loudly, pretending everything was normal.

But then something caught my attention.

He was looking at me.

With a sad face.

Maybe guilt.

Or maybe not.

I don't know why, but I felt like his eyes were filled with guilt.

But I ignored it.

Because his guilt wouldn't change anything.

I slowly turned my face toward the window. My eyes were filled with tears, but I quickly wiped them away before anyone could notice.

Then I started gossiping with Aria and Ava again, acting like nothing was wrong.

After a few minutes, I looked at Max again.

He was admiring Kate with a soft smile, and she was laughing with her best friend.

That scene…

It broke my heart into pieces.

To be continued…
