A laugh tore through my lips. I threw my head back and laughed until my stomach hurt. Lylena just watched with her moon shaped pendant in her hand.
"That is the most ridiculous tale I have ever heard" I said in between laughs
"You seem to have forgotten who you are xaaji"
"You've got the wrong girl lylena. I am not who you think I am"
"It is quite the opposite dear one" she picked up a vial, her bony fingers curled around the bottle "you are not who you think you are"
I paused, my mind reeling "then prove it. Prove that I am her"
She poured a drop of the vial on the moon shaped pendant and it began to glow "you killed makia. How do you explain that dear one."
My face became flushed as I pursed my lips into a thin line "that was an accident."
"Yet you killed her" her eyes met mine "no one kills the servants of xaaji unless they are xaaji herself"
My blood went cold. Was I really who she says I am? Is this really who I was born to be? Maybe this was a lie, a prank to test me, to see if they'll let me live or not. Or maybe this was real. "Maybe someone else had killed her, or she did it to herself."
That was a lie and I knew it. Deep down, I had felt it the moment she had died. I had killed her. I had taken her life and spilled blood on my own hands.
Lylena moved back "you are in denial" she grinned "but that will change eventually"
She dipped the pendant into a swirling blue liquid and it turned into a crescent moon. The glow became brighter and she handed it to me.
"Put it on dear one"
I was skeptical. I didn't want to. But what was the harm in putting it one. I had faced death more than once in a span of...well I couldn't tell what day nor time it was but it all seemed to be happening fast.
With a sudden determination to know the truth, I put on the pendant. It felt cold against my skin and for a few seconds nothing happened.
"Patience dear one" lylena urged, noticing the impatient look on my face.
I really wanted to get this over with and...
FLASH
A gasp left my lips and I was standing in a field covered with snow. I was wearing a white flowing dress and the sky was pitch dark, but despite that I could see.
"Sister"
I turned, my breathing uneven as my eyes met with the most beautiful creature I had ever seen. Her hair was black like the sky, but her eyes, they were white like makias. One thing that stood out the most, was the crescent shaped scar on her forehead.
I knew this woman. I know her. We grew up together, playing in the field and running with the wolves we had both created.
"You haven't changed sister" I said, a memory of her flashed through my mind and I new I loved her deeply.
"Neither have you" her voice wasn't welcoming. She wasn't happy to see me.
"You summoned me here. Why?" How I knew that was beyond me.
Her eyes darted to the sky "you went against the rules xaaji. Your punishment is not over"
A memory of both of us fighting flashed through my mind again and I stepped back as a gasp escaped my lips. A warm feeling of anger began to creep into the back of my neck. I was angry at her. No. It was beyond anger
"we both know what really happened selene. Do not patronize my love for you"
Selene?
I knew I love her, I knew I would die for her. But I knew I hated her too.
Her eyes narrowed "love? You know nothing about love xaaji. You love nothing but yourself" her lips curled at the word nothing
Another memory flashed through my mind and I was filled with more anger "I sacrificed myself for you! My happiness and my throne for you sister! I know everything about love!"
Selene lifted her chin, her white eyes staring down at me "do not start a fight you cannot finish. Go through your punishment and come back home. To us"
Anger boiled through my veins "NO" I said defiantly
Her eyes squinted shut "then you leave me no choice sister. This means war and it will end when blood is shed." She paused, her eyes holding centuries of hate that she had harboured "Your blood"
I clenched my fist "this won't be like the last time sister." I smirked " the war will only end when I have taken what is mine."
Her nose flared "it won't end well for you" she snapped her wrist and I was back in the room with lylena.
Her white eyes stared at mine in worry "what did you see great one"
I felt cold. My hands were clammy and it felt like there wasn't enough air in my lungs.
A dozen unanswered questions ran through my mind. Questions I knew that no one but me could answer. The memory was in my head somewhere, but it was hazy. I couldn't remember any of it.
But one thing was certain and I was anything but prepared for it.
"A war is coming" I whspered
