SERENA
I woke up feeling extremely sour all over and my abdomen hurting badly. I tried to stand up but the pain from the IV drip hit me and I stayed back down.
I looked around the ward, nobody was there except a nurse. A stray tear escaped my face as I touched my hurting abdomen. Did I lose my pup? I asked myself rhetorically as I stared at the nurse who didn't notice that I was conscious yet.
I struggled on the bed and she heard the noise and turned.
"You're awake" she said..
I stared at her confusedly and almost broken. "My baby?"
"Your baby is fine but still at risk. Please do not move" she said to me. I touched my stomach and smiled painfully. "Thank you for staying strong baby" I muttered to myself.
The nurse injected some liquid into the drip and then she turned to me. "If you need anything I'll be at the front desk outside" she was about leaving when I called her back.
"What about my husband?" I asked
She went silent immediately. "Uhmm, uhh.. it says in the record that you're single. Some men in dark suits brought you here" she explained.
"Oh." I replied briefly and I watched her leave. Aaron left me to his guards just for Talia and my records said I was single. What the hell was going on?
I waited for minutes and Aaron wasn't coming to see me. I know he'd hurt me badly, but I hate the fact that I can't bring myself to hate him. He was my first man, my husband and the man I love. I could feel my heart beat fastly just by thinking about him being with Talia right now.
I stretched out to get my mobile phone and just then I saw a voicemail from Talia in my notifications.
'I love you Talia, I even risk the life of my unborn child for you. I don't mind losing my child just to save you. I promise to always take care of you' I heard Aaron say in the recording..
My world collapsed. To think that I wanted to forgive him this last time. Aaron, you broke my heart for the hundredth time.
I kept my mobile phone in the drawer and I shut my eyes trying to sleep. My head hurts so much I wish today would pass quickly.
Just when I thought it was over, someone kicked the door open and I saw Talia walk inside. The same sick sister who made everyone panic—looking perfectly fine and well. For someone who just received a blood donation, she didn't even have an IV drip on her wrist..
"What are you doing here, Talia?" I asked.
Talia moved closer to me, her face looking all pitiful. "Oh sis, I'm here to thank you for donating your blood to me again" she said meekly, trying to act weak.
"Get out!'' I yelled as I recalled the contents of the voice message she sent me. I can't believe that no one saw through her pretense. Talia isn't sick at all.
"I know you're not sick Talia." I said.
"Oh, you do know." She said, taking a seat beside me in bed.
"Yes, I do. And I'm not in the mood to talk to you. Please leave!"
"If you're not in the mood to speak with me, sis. I'm definitely in for a talk with you. Tell me, Serena. Why haven't you divorce Aaron yet? It's clear that he doesn't love you" she asked me.
I scoffed… "Talia, Aaron and I are mates. I don't care about him loving you." I responded.
" Even if he chose me over and over again? Even over your bastard child?"
"How dare you say that about my child?" I yelled out immediately. "Oh come oh sis, we all know that you're desperate to get Aaron to love you. That's why you went on to get pregnant. I never thought that you'd force someone else's child on him?"
"Wait.. what? What the hell are you talking about? This child is Aaron's. And I'm not explaining myself to you, Talia."
"You definitely don't have to explain to me. Wait till Aaron hears this" Talia declared. And another voice recording played but this time, with my voice on it.
'I want you to get me pregnant so I can keep Aaron by my side. I know he doesn't love me now but once I conceive his pup, he'd surely have a place in his heart for me'
"What? I never said any of that. Delete it!" I struggled to grab the phone from her but she ended up pushing me from the bed. "Ahhh" I cried out in pain as my stomach began to hurt. She pushed me too hard, definitely on purpose.
"Ahhh, what have you done to me Serena?" Talia screamed and just then the door opened and Aaron ran inside towards her.
"Aaron, you're here" I called out to him but he ignored me. I looked down at blood trailing from my thighs and my stomach hurt even more. Talia also was bleeding from her wrist. She obviously cut herself to frame me..
"Aaron, please don't blame Serena. I shouldn't have come here in the first place. I only wanted to thank her for the donation. I never expected to find out her biggest secret…." Talia said.
Aaron glanced at me but I shook my head. "Aaron no, you have to believe me. I didn't do it" I say.
"What did you find out about Talia?" He asked her.
"I overheard her on the phone with someone talking about the child inside her. It.. it isn't yours." She revealed and soon the recording played.
"Serena! What the hell is this?" Aaron yelled at me. My body shook, not just from fear but from the pain I felt at the moment.
"Aaron, please save us.." I cried, beads of sweat forming on my face..
Aaron moved to where I was and he grabbed my neck tightly, strangling me.
"How long did you plan to deceive me, Serena? For how long!" He yelled.
"Aaron, Please I don't know what she's talking about. This child is yours and I can agree to a DNA test after he's born." I begged. More blood oozing out from me and the contractions hurt even more.
"Aahh…" Talia cried in pain. "Alpha Aaron, it hurts" she held her wrist. Aaron totally ignored me and went to her.
I crawled behind him and grabbed his pants. "Please save us" I begged him again but he kicked me off. "I'll give you one last chance to tell me the truth Serena, is the pup really mine?" Aaron's eyes turned even colder than before.
"I swear, it is…" my voice broke as I spoke.
"I'll give you the next hours to provide me with proof if not I promise you'll regret this" Aaron left with Talia in his arms, leaving me with no help at all.
I watched their figures fade before my eyes and my body weakened even more. Soon, my world turned dark…
