Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: Radio and Helping Out

[3rd POV]

The idea of going on a talk show was definitely a new one to Billie. She had never experienced something like that before, especially not on one with Ellen in it.

And the Talk Show itself would be happening late December, after Christmas was over and done with, just before the New Year. This meant that she had a bit of time to get ready for it, and also a bit of time to enjoy her holidays before going.

She was honestly just hoping that Ellen was not completely insufferable to be near. She knew the future and what the woman was actually like, so she hoped she at least made the interview somewhat interesting.

But who knows when it comes to a talk show host.

At the moment Billie was driving over to the Dunphy household. They were helping with a fundraiser for a neighbor that sadly lost their house in a pretty terrible accident. A fire. There was already donations flooding in, and they needed help boxing it all up and loading it up for them.

And since Billie had nothing better to do, and she wanted to get closer to the Dunphy family, she thought "Why not help?" And now she was on her way over.

While driving, Billie was sipping on her daily coffee. Listening to the radio as she drove.

The radio was mostly just music, her own playing a few times (which she changed the channel whenever they came up). But eventually, it had stopped on one that caught her attention, seemingly switching into the middle of a conversation.

"I'm just saying. Why choose Ellen Degeneres of all people? Would be way more interesting to see her talk to Leno. Dude is not nearly as insufferable as she is" A man's voice echoed on her radio, as she blinked in surprise.

"...That was not supposed to be public information yet" Billie muttered, realizing someone had leaked that piece of information. She would be annoyed, but she honestly isn't that shocked.

It would have been next to impossible to keep that information a secret. There were hundreds of people that worked on the show, and at least one of them would be revealing it to the public.

And even then, it could have been the studio themselves that did this. As they were well known for this sort of thing, using it to hype up their own shows and events to make it look like it was some sort of leak.

As if all of this information could be leaked so casually like that. But with Ellen is could be different.

She wasn't sure.

"And Ellen is bad? What about her is even that insufferable?" The other older sounding man asked, seemingly the host of this station if she was guessing correctly.

It was honestly a good question, as at this point and time, Ellen wasn't really all that bad. Sure, she was definitely fake when it came to emotions, and honestly kind of creepy, but she wasn't revealed as a piece of shit boss or anything. There wasn't a reason to hate her as much as the other guy sounded like he did.

Which just made the reaction he had strange.

"She's just so fake! Everything about her, from her personality to the way she reacts to things. Like it's all rehearsed beforehand or something. She rubs me the wrong way, that's all. And I think that Billie can definitely go somewhere better for her first official talk show appearance. And yeah, sure, Leno can be rough around the edges, but at least he appears to be genuine. That, and he's actually funny, Ellen is just cringey at best" The man responded, as Billie listened, blinking in surprise that he was...

Actually making some good points.

'...Well, I guess you're not entirely wrong. But who's to say she won't go on both? Cause I sure as hell would. And either way, it doesn't matter what we think, it's up to Billie herself. We've just gotta speculate on why she made this decision, and nothing more'

The words finished, as they began to move onto another segment, while Billie silently drove in thought. Wondering if she should have gone for Leno first. She didn't really know enough about him to feel comfortable with that, but she also understood that Ellen was just not as fun to watch.

But in the end, she decided to just do both. She'd do Ellen in December, and try to do Leno in February of next year, that way there is a short break between talk show appearances, and she can upload at least a song before then.

She had a few songs in mind for that. As she did want to make some singles that are not part of an album.

Haley did too.

'Guess I'll just have to schedule Leno soon too' Billie decided, as she continued to drive towards the home of the Dunphy's, deciding that she would get into contact with them in the coming week.

Pulling up to the Dunphy house, Billie noticed the large stacks of boxes, and other things like rugs and even chairs. A lot of stuff that would be really helpful for a family that had just lost their home like the neighbors had.

Getting out of the car, Billie soon entered the Dunphy household, only to blink when she saw the adults of the family surrounding Jay who was laying back on the couch, seemingly in pain.

"Why is Jay lying on the couch? Did he pull his hip or something?" Billie asked, glancing at the man as he grumbled at her.

"Hey, just because your dating my granddaughter doesn't mean you can be a smartass" Jay said with a groan of pain, his back evidently in a lot of pain.

"Sorry sorry. Anyways, why not have Phil help you? I've heard he's damn good at massages" Billie said, remembering the topic being brought up once. She could not remember why (more like she did not want to remember why), but she just knew that Haley had talked about it once.

"Not you too" Jay groaned, having literally just heard that from Claire a few moments ago.

"Seriously dad, even she's telling you to do it. The guy is dangerous with those hands of his" Mitchell said, as the man smiled at the praise, while Billie glanced at Mitchell with a raised eyebrow.

"Not in that way, perv" Mitchell said with an admonishing tone upon seeing the smirk on Billie's face, teasing.

"God damnit, fine fine" Jay grumbled, as Claire and Mitchell cheered at his accepting, before walking off to deal with the boxes.

"Great great! I'll just go get the room ready real quick. And I really think you'll be surprised with what these hands can do" Phil said with a grin, as he began to turn, only for Cam to walk up and get close to him.

"Really? Can they drive a bobcat skid-steer with a bucket grabbed through a school hallways on a dare? Because these can, and have" Cam said, holding his hands up as Billie blankly looked at him, before glancing back at Jay blandly.

"Your family is weird" Billie said bluntly, as Jay snorted.

"Yeah, on that we agree" Jay said as Billie only smiled while cam looked a little insulted.

With that, Billie began to head into the kitchen area to start helping out, one thought on her mind as she made her way over.

'...This family might be weird, but damn is it fun to be around!'
