Time didn't stop.
It stretched.
The corridor pulsed red under the emergency lights, shadows flickering like broken memories. Every breath sounded louder. Every heartbeat felt misplaced.
And at the center of it all... Kai stood over Noah.
Hand raised. End within reach.
Noah's vision blurred at the edges. His body screamed at him to stay down-to stop-but something deeper, something stubborn and unyielding, forced him to keep his eyes open.
To look at Kai.
Not Hunter.
Kai.
"You should've walked away."
Noah let out a weak, uneven breath.
"…Not… my style."
Behind- Footsteps.
Fast. Uneven.
Desperate.
"NOAH—!"
Evan's voice tore through the corridor as he stumbled forward, one arm supporting
Rhea.
Kai didn't turn.
But something in his posture shifted.
"Perfect timing," he murmured.
Evan stopped a few feet away.
His chest rose sharply, eyes darting from Noah… to Kai… to the blood already staining the floor.
"Let him go!" Evan shouted.
Kai's hand didn't lower.
"Interesting," he said quietly. "You chose her."
Evan's jaw tightened.
"I chose to save someone who couldn't fight back."
A pause.
Kai smiled faintly.
"And him?"
Evan didn't answer.
Because the truth was standing right in front of him.
Rhea's grip on Evan tightened as she saw Kai.
Not Hunter. Not the monster. Him.
"Kai…" she whispered.
That...Made him pause.
His raised hand stilled mid-air.
Slowly...
He turned.
And for a moment...
The room changed.
Because the way he looked at her...
Wasn't the way Hunter looked at his prey.
It was the way someone looked at something they had already lost.
"…You shouldn't have come back," he said softly.
Rhea shook her head, tears falling freely now.
"I never left."
The words hit.
Deep.
Noah saw it.
Even through the haze of pain.
That small crack.
That moment.
"Kai…" Noah forced out, pushing himself up slightly. "Stop this… now."
Kai didn't respond immediately.
Noah coughed, blood touching his lips.
"We were good," he said, his voice rough but steady. "You know that."
A breath.
"I know you."
Kai's eyes shifted to him.
"You don't," he said quietly.
"I do," Noah insisted. "You think this is who you are? It's not."
A flicker.
"You don't have to do this," Noah continued. "Whatever you've built in your head… whatever you think this is… we can fix it."
Kai let out a quiet breath.
Almost a laugh.
"Fix me?" he repeated.
Noah didn't look away.
"Yes."
Silence.
For a moment....It almost felt possible.
Then...Kai stepped forward.
Fast.
He grabbed Noah by the collar and yanked him up, then drove his fist straight into his stomach.
Noah gasped.
"You still don't get it," Kai said coldly.
Noah coughed, barely staying on his feet.
Evan moved instantly.
"Noah!"
He rushed forward and swung at Kai.
This time, Kai didn't dodge.
He blocked.
Caught Evan's wrist mid-motion.
Twisted.
A sharp crack echoed.
Evan cried out, dropping to one knee as pain shot through his arm.
"EVAN!"
Kai kicked him aside.
Hard.
Evan hit the ground, sliding across the concrete, breath knocked out of him completely.
"Stay down," Kai said without even looking at him.
"No…" Evan forced out, trying to push himself up again.
But his body didn't cooperate.
His arm trembled.
Pain blinding.
And just like that, he was out of the fight.
Now, it was just them.
Noah and Kai.
Noah wiped the blood from his mouth.
Forced himself upright.
"You always go for the weaker one first," he muttered.
Kai tilted his head slightly.
"Strategy."
Noah let out a breath.
"Cowardice."
That...got a reaction.
Kai moved again.
Faster this time.
He struck....
Noah blocked....
Barely...
But the impact still pushed him back.
Noah retaliated...
A punch....
Clean...
Connecting with Kai's jaw.
This time...
Kai stepped back.
Just one step.
But it was enough.
Noah saw it.
"You feel that?" Noah said, breathing hard. "You're not untouchable."
Kai's expression shifted.
Not anger.
Something sharper.
Interest.
"Good," he said softly.
And then...he attacked.
This time...Relentless.
A series of strikes...Fast....Precise...Unforgiving.
Noah blocked what he could...Took what he couldn't...
Each hit pushing him closer to his limit.
But he didn't stop.
He struck back.
The fight turned brutal.
Noah grabbed Kai's arm...
Twisted...
Drove him into the wall...
Kai pushed back immediately...
Elbow to Noah's ribs...
Another crack...
Noah staggered....
But held on...
"You're not this!" Noah shouted, his voice breaking through the chaos.
Kai froze for a fraction of a second.
And Noah used it...
Driving his fist into Kai's side...
Kai hissed.
And then...
Everything changed.
His movements became sharper.
Colder.
He grabbed Noah's arm...
Twisted hard...
Noah cried out...
And then...
Kai drove him straight into the ground.
Hard.
The impact echoed.
Noah didn't get up this time.
His chest rose sharply.
Struggling.
Kai stood over him again.
Breathing steady.
Untouched.
"…You should've stayed out of this," he said quietly.
Noah forced his eyes open.
"And let you keep destroying everything?" he whispered.
A pause.
"…No."
Kai looked at him.
Really looked.
He raised his hand.
Ready to end it.
Behind...
A weak voice.
"Kai… please…"
Rhea.
His hand stopped.
Just for a second.
That second...
Was everything.
"Don't do this," she whispered. "Please… come back."
Silence.
Kai's breathing shifted.
Slightly.
"…I can't," he said.
And then...
He moved again.
But this time...
A gunshot.
The sound ripped through everything.
Kai's body jerked.
His hand dropped.
Blood spread slowly across his chest.
Behind them...
Detective Kolon stood with his gun raised.
"It's over."
Kai let out a weak breath.
"…You're late."
And for the first time...
He fell.
Rhea caught him.
And everything else...
Just Looked...
