Adrian Blackwood did not believe in coincidence or destiny, he believed one had to work hard to achieve every single thing they wanted in life.
At thirty-two he stood af the top of "Black Tech" with a reputation formed with steel and silence. Floor to ceiling windows framed Manhattan by beneath him like a conquered kingdom. His reflection in the glass looked conposed— black tailored suit, dark eyes, controlled postue, boldness and ruthlessness. He turned to the balcony and looked at the city below, from which he could see the new employees rushing into the building, so as not to miss their interview. A dim smirk lit up his face "many will come, but few will make it", he said.
"Our team only picks the best of the best sir", his assistant Lucian replied. "Cancel my afternoon, I have to be somewhere", "of course sir". "You can leave now, once the screening is done send the new employees to me", "yes sir".
Although Lucian was shocked as this had never been done before, he knew better than to question adrian, rather obliged for his own safety. Adrian knew that the project he was working on needed fresh minds, and careful fingers, so he intentionally made the employees take an online exam first, and then come to the office for the second screening. He needed to make sure everything was in place.
Serena sat in the lobby quite nervous, she knew she had to ace this, because at that point there was no turning back. She had already gone too far, at the new year, she decided a new beginning to get her life in track—she had fully switched to taking all her classes online, including her major, (business administration), dropped out of therapy, as the bills were too much, left art school for the mean time, and applied for long term jobs to keep her finances in check.
"Serena Vale", she instantly turned to the receptionist, "yes ma'am", she replied, "come with me please", she got up, took a deep breath, settled her dress and followed behind Stacey, the receptionist. She got into the conference room and was met with different faces, including Lucian, who was at the other end of the table. "Good morning everyone, I'm Serena Vale, nice to meet you", she spoke boldly, " we know who you are, please have your seat", replied Lucian. She had sat down with a smile on her face, but her body was burning with nervousness, although she had passed the online test in flying colours, she couldn't help but get nervous. "Let's begin then" said an employee.
Serena walked back to the lobby with a neutral expression on her face, which was no different from what the previous people had done. She didn't even know if she had passed or failed, the board members just said in a neutral tone "thank you for your time, you may leave now". She made her way to her seat with mixed feelings, that was when she remembered she had to go to the hospital after work today, "work", she desperately hoped so.
