Chapter 2 - Reform? Recreation? Assimilation?

My sight was gone, and so was my hearing, but I could feel something else.

Pain.

My whole body ached, but I wasn't numb.

I groped around, feeling lots of uneven pieces around me.

The cathedral was supposed to be perfect, and the ground was smooth.

Am I dead?

My vision started to clear, and it was bleary at first, slowly clearing.

When my sight returned, I was shocked beyond belief.

The cathedral was nowhere to be found, and fallen debris surrounded me.

Then, like a bomb, my hearing returned.

Screams!

I thought I was dead.

Unfortunately, death wasn't nearly this loud

I was horrified.

Looking around me, I now realized, there wasn't just debris around me.

I'd never felt this sort of fear before, seeing so many people dying before me.

All the fanatics that were with me were scattered, buried underneath immovable parts of the broken cathedral, body parts twisted inhumanely, and blood flowing like rivers.

As I looked at them, I felt my blood begin to boil, and it wasn't because I was angry.

I suddenly felt a strange excitement.

I want to document them. I need to ask them about their lives, keep their memories.

I was overwhelmed, forgetting the pain that flooded my nerves.

I knew I wasn't injured, but this pain was strange.

It hurt, but I felt it was also a good feeling.

I got up, choosing the nearest dying member as my first patient.

He was the suicidal one I noticed, but at the moment, he was afraid.

People were afraid to die.

I approached him, and just as I was about to ask him, thousands of screams burst into my ears.

A strange sense of oppression filled my system, and the dying man stared at me incredulously. I touched my face, thinking if I was disfigured in some way, and didn't know it due to adrenaline, but nothing was wrong.

I was about to ask him when AI noticed he was gazing at something behind me.

I followed his line of sight, but what I saw almost exploded my human brain.

The sky was cracked.

Like a mirror struck by a force, cracks spread like a web. It looked beautiful, yet frightening.

What is happening?

With a loud explosion that shook the earth, the cracks exploded, and in the center, a black hole appeared. It looked empty, frightening, and otherworldly.

Something moved beyond the crack, and at first I thought it was a cloud.

Then I thought it was a mountain, and before I could guess again, the mountain moved.

Suddenly, my vision split apart, and I saw cities, oceans, and deserts.

Billions of people stared up in bewilderment as the cracked sky ushered in a behemoth.

It was just a palm that reached in, but this palm continued to expand.

Entire countries could have rested upon a single finger.

The palm smashed into the earth, digging into the ground, and cities turned to nothingness. Seas disappeared, and a few billion lives were gone. They couldn't even scream before death claimed them.

A gust of wind exploded from where it struck, one larger than any hurricane the world had ever felt.

Several lives were lost again, but the wind was just the beginning.

Cracks spread from the ground in all directions, swallowing many before they could react.

The arm reached deeper into the earth, and disasters spread forth, claiming lives so easily.

I was like a ghost, watching everything like a movie.

The wind, the explosions, and the flames that burst forth all flowed through me like I was non-existent.

I couldn't help but wonder if I was dreaming.

I stared in awe as the powerful arm reached in deeper and exploded on the other side of the earth.

It now grasped what seemed to be the core of the earth.

It pulled the core back and grasped it before the crack.

The earth's core looked beautiful, glowing with a surreal light, pulsing like a heartbeat.

Unfortunately, I wasn't allowed to appreciate its beauty as the hand exerted force, shattering the core.

The shattering of the core released a powerful force. Cracks snaked across the earth, oceans turned to mist, and continents were swallowed. In just a few seconds, half the world was consumed, forever to disappear.

My body trembled as I watched the arm retract into the hole and disappear.

Two figures appeared on the other side of the hole, floating forward.

I didn't understand why I could see them so clearly, but why I could hear them.

"Another failure," one of them said coldly.

The other chuckled. "It is expected that this world didn't bear any fruit, so might as well remove it."

The cold one nodded. "That leaves one more. If that doesn't work, He'll go on a rampage."

There was no response this time.

For the first time, I felt a fear I'd never felt before.

This fear I felt towards these two was greater than what I felt when the hand appeared.

"Let's go," the cold one said, turning around as he entered the hole and disappeared.

His partner took out a strange fruit and threw it onto the ground.

Like a nuke, it fell down, and the moment it touched the ground, it exploded.

The explosion spread across the remaining world, and I now knew I was going to die. Looking at the sky, I suddenly wished I could go through the hole to escape.

My thoughts didn't finish developing before the man looked at me and smiled.

We were so far apart, but we locked eyes; my trembling eyes, and his smiling eyes.

"Come!" he commanded.
