Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

Eleanor arranged a squad who can help them carry out their mission. She arranged every thing with ease. She improvised the plan and created backup plans to ensure the mission's success.

Finally it was time for their mission. Silas was having an hard time cooperating with others. Silas thought of all the possibilities that could go wrong. The members of the squad were all above 20 , they were all clearly experienced.

Silas POV

Eleanor briefed the plan once more I was actually impressed by her calm demeanour, I had my eyes fixed on her before I heard a snarl from behind. It was a squad member, I was surprised, I looked around. It wasn't just one or two members. A lot of them had twisted expression on their face. They were looking down on her.

I was confused ,as far as far as I know, Eleanor wasn't really cruel or unreasonable to the people below her. When the meeting ended, Eleanor was quite busy, so she went on with her work. I was left alone in the hall with the others.

The voice came from beside me.

"You're the new member, aren't you?"

I turned toward the speaker. I hadn't noticed her until she spoke.

She didn't quite fit in with the others. While the rest of the squad wore practical gear, she stood out—long brown curls left loose, green eyes that gave her an oddly innocent look. She wore a red frock adorned with frills and lace, making her look more like a doll than a combatant. Her voice was soft, pleasant.

"Yeah," I replied.

"I'm Carol," she said brightly. "This is your first mission, right? Are you nervous?"

She jumped from one question to another without pause.

"Not exactly," I answered.

She seemed eager to keep the conversation going, and I decided that maybe making a friend wouldn't be a bad idea. She looked around my age—perhaps that was why she approached me so easily. She had a natural way with words, and before I realized it, we were having a decent conversation.

After a while, I asked, "Why were the squad members treating Eleanor like that?"

"Oh, you noticed?" Carol tilted her head. "They treat most juniors that way—especially if they're younger than them. Since Eleanor outranks them, they take it even worse."

I hesitated. "Are you part of the squad too? You're pretty young compared to them."

She laughed. "No. I just have an ability that's useful in situations like this, so I was sent to help."

I didn't question it further. We kept talking for hours, and the day quietly came to an end.

The next day:

All the preparations were done, all that was left was to begin the mission . We were divided in two teams. I was with Eleanor in team A while Carol was with a guy name, Noah in team B.

Both of the teams positioned themselves outside our eastern headquarters. Finally Silas first mission was about to begin, nobody said it openly but it is the mission that'll decide if he can stay....
