Chapter 13 - Chapter 13

Eleanor's POV

I created a shield of shadows, masking our movement. Silas opened a portal, and we stepped into the control room.

Noah didn't notice us immediately. Carol did — but stayed silent.

The monitor Noah was watching still showed us moving through the facility, even though we were standing right behind him. They weren't targeting us directly. They were targeting Carol and Noah.

False information fed straight into the system. They struck directly at Noah's weakness.

Silas caught on first.

"Noah, something's wrong," I said.

He flinched. His face went pale. He had already been on guard.

"They're watching us," I said quietly. "But how?"

Noah looked devastated, trying to pinpoint the exact moment he had lost control.

"The tunnels," Silas said. "They run through the entire building. And they're outside Noah's control."

"Even then, it's difficult, don't you think?" Carol said, her expression unchanged

"Would you mind sharing your thoughts?" I asked.

"The tunnels are everywhere," she said. "But distance still matters. They're approximately sixty-two feet below ground level. If they have a gifted individual capable of that, we're no match."

The squad members shifted uncomfortably.

She was right. If they were that strong, then everything we had done might have been useless.

Silas withdrew into his thoughts. Carol—who knows what she was thinking.

Noah noticed it too. He frowned.

The squad members began to panic.

I called Noah aside. He was the only one still fully alert.

My heartbeat was frantic.

But you push it back if you want to survive.

"What should we do ?" I asked.

"I am not sure" he replied.

"Let's think this through one more." I suggested.

"The Enemy may not be in the tunnels ,they could be near than we think." I said while shielding the whole area with my ability. " I created an artificial ground with my ability in case someone attacked from the floor.

It wasn't danger proof, but warned us before something happened.

Created some rats with my shadows and let them scope the area. Noah regained his composure and unleashed a trick room even bigger.

"Instead of controlling with the control system of the building— why don't you create your own ." Silas said.

"I never thought of it—thanks" Noah replied. Then I got some ideas. "What about creating something like a doll or robot . You can control it and capture the enemies" I chimed in

"I'll try it" Noah said hesitantly. Noah tried it, and it worked . He was able to create huge dolls which could be controlled. His ability indeed depends upon his imagination.

Noah once more tried taking control he created small eyes that could float around and survey the area.

He didn't look confident yet started to scope the area, my rats found something in the ventilation system. They were approaching us. " It's the ventilation. " I said to him. "They are approaching us."

"I'll see to it" Noah replied . The ventilation shifted violently under Noah's influence. Noah sent his dolls to the ventilation.

The dolls grabbed 7 men and dragged them outside. Carol used her ability without warning anyone. One of man started screaming frantically. The other men were startled.

One of the military officers used his technique it was illusions. Noah modified the trick room disabling the enemies ability. Noah finished six of the seven men, and left one to take him back to the headquarters. Our mission was a success.

Noah looked especially happy, I was able to read what he was talking just by looking at him. Carol had her smile, yet I wasn't able to read too much into her. Well Silas, he looked relieved.

We went back to the main area 10 of our members were dead. Noah's smile dropped looking at the disfigured corpses lying on ground.

My gut dropped, it was gruesome. I stopped feeling bad for every person who died. Unlike Noah, I wasn't able to feel sorrow for the dead. I was only able to feel relief from surviving. I resented myself for it.

Silas stood near me trying to read my expression. I didn't want him to so I dropped my head and stared at the corpse.
