Bella's POV
The next morning, after I finished washing up, Mildred from Genevieve's courtyard burst into my chamber, clearly flustered. "Lady Bella, Lady Genevieve needs you in the main courtyard right now."
I lifted my gaze to meet hers. "What's happening?"
Though I asked, my heart already knew the answer. Julian must have finally come to propose.
Mildred appeared completely stunned. "Lady Sinclair has arrived," she declared.
"Lord Julian isn't with her?" I asked, somewhat confused.
Mildred shook her head firmly. "No, he's not here."
I rose to my feet. "Let's go."
Perhaps something has shifted, I mused. I should see this for myself.
Soon, I reached the main courtyard.
Even before I drew near, laughter drifted from within. Genevieve's voice rang out, "What brings you here today, Your Grace?"
Genevieve was hosting the guest with a polished smile, though anxiety flickered in her chest.
