The bell rang, signaling the end of morning classes and the start of the lunch period. Students immediately began gathering their things and securing them into their bags, as they left for lunch.
Class 1-A started moving toward the cafeteria, noone really wanting to miss the legendary food by Lunch Rush.
As the group moved toward the door, Momo gently touched Mina's arm, getting her attention.
"You guys head out without me and Akira today," Momo said, her tone carrying a spec of apology for breaking their lunch routine.
Mina stopped, turning to look at her friend with curiosity. "Why? What's up?"
Momo shifted slightly, looking a bit awkward. "Well, as Akira and I are president and vice president now, I thought we should talk about it. You know, discuss our responsibilities and make some plans."
The other girls, Toru, Jiro, and Tsuyu, all nodded in understanding.
"Oh, that makes sense!" Toru agreed.
"Ribbit, very responsible of you," Tsuyu added with an approving nod.
But Mina didn't agree, as she smelled something was going on. Instead, her eyes narrowed slightly as she looked at Momo with an expression that was far too knowing, far too suspicious. (You know the meme guys)
Momo saw the look and felt a small flutter of nervousness in her chest. "W-why are you looking at me like that?"
"Hmm..." Mina drew out the sound, tilting her head as she continued to study Momo's face, looking for hints.
The silence stretched for a long uncomfortable minute.
Then Mina's eyes lit up with mischief. "Something is cooking here, and I will be watching. Very closely."
Before Momo could protest or ask what she meant, Mina turned to the other girls.
"Let's go, girls!" she announced, already walking toward the door.
The other girls followed, though they gave Mina weird looks, clearly confused about what she was implying.
Momo stood there for a moment, genuinely puzzled. I have no clue what she's talking about, she thought, replaying the conversation in her mind and finding nothing suspicious about it.
"Aren't we going with the gang today?"
Akira's voice came from right behind her, and Momo actually jumped slightly in surprise. She turned to find him standing there, looking at her with confusion.
"Oh! Yeah, no..." Momo said, still slightly flustered from Mina's weird behavior. "Not today."
Akira's confusion deepened.
"What about food then?"
Momo's expression brightened immediately. She walked over to her desk and pulled out a carefully wrapped box from her bag, holding it up for him to see.
"I tried cooking," she said with both pride and nervousness in her voice. "I wanted your opinion on it."
Akira smiled, his expression genuinely pleased. "Yeah, yeah..." he said encouragingly, waiting for her to continue.
Momo added quickly, the words coming out in a bit of a rush, "And that's because my mom and dad will always say it's perfect no matter what, so I needed someone to really tell me the truth, and you are the only one I know soooooooooooo..."
Akira nodded. "Understood. Parents are legally required to lie about their kids' cooking. My mom did the same. I found out she was lying when I tried the pasta I made. Ugh.... nasty stuff that was. Still have bad dreams about it."
Momo laughed at that.
"So, where would you like to eat?" Akira asked, looking around the now mostly-empty classroom.
"Hmm..." Momo considered the options.
"Hold up, I got that covered, Nezu once told me about a nice spot on this floor," Akira offered. "It gives a really nice view of the city. Pretty quiet too. Follow me."
Momo nodded and followed him out of the classroom.
They walked down the hallway together, passing other students heading in the opposite direction toward the cafeteria. Akira led her to a section of the building she hadn't really explored before, which was a small alcove near the east wing that had floor-to-ceiling windows.
There was a bench positioned perfectly to face the glass windows, offering an unobstructed panoramic view of Musutafu stretching out below them.
"Oh, this is beautiful."
"Right? Nezu showed it to me during one of our chess matches," Akira explained, settling onto the bench. "He said it's one of the best-kept secrets in the school. Most students don't even know it exists."
Momo sat down beside him, carefully placing the food box between them. She opened it, revealing what she'd prepared.
Inside were perfectly arranged servings of pasta — specifically, cacio e pepe, a classic Italian dish.(Try it, real good stuff) The pasta was coated in a creamy sauce made from pecorino cheese and black pepper, simple yet tastes great. The presentation was almost too pretty to eat, each portion carefully plated with a small garnish of fresh herbs.
Akira looked at the food, then at Momo, raising an eyebrow. "Italian?"
Momo nodded, a slight blush touching her cheeks. "Yeah. It's not that hard to make once you understand the technique, and it tastes good. At least, I hope it does."
"Solid reasoning," Akira approved.
He picked up the chopsticks she'd provided and took a bite.
The moment the food hit his tongue, his mind went blank. His eyes widened slightly in genuine surprise.
"Now that, is good food," Akira said after swallowing, and there was no teasing in his voice. Just straight, hard facts. "Better than that Italian place downtown. What was it called? Bella Notte?"
Momo's entire face lit up with happiness. "Really?? You're not making things up, right?"
"I never joke about food," Akira said seriously, taking another bite to prove his point. "This is actually delicious. The cheese-to-pepper ratio is perfect."
Momo giggled at his serious food critique. Looking at him enjoying the food, she felt a strange mix of relief and pride.
They settled in to eat together, taking their time with the meal. The peaceful atmosphere of the hidden spot, combined with the gorgeous view and surprisingly excellent food, created a moment that felt separate from the usual chaos of school life.
As they ate, the conversation naturally drifted to their new responsibilities.
"So, president and vice president," Akira said between bites. "Have you thought about what we should actually do?"
"Well, we need to represent the class's interests to the faculty," Momo began, already mentally organizing her thoughts. "And we should probably establish better communication channels between students and teachers. Maybe implement a suggestion system?"
"Hmm, or we could install gaming consoles in the classroom," Akira suggested with a completely straight face. "For team-building exercises. Very important for hero work."
Momo gave him a look.
"What? I'm serious," Akira continued, clearly enjoying himself now. "Think about it, strategic thinking, hand-eye coordination, teamwork under pressure. It's all important stuff."
"Uh-huh," Momo said, not buying it for a second, but nodded anyway.
"We could have a class tournament," Akira added, totally in flow. "Winner gets to skip homework for a week."
"Aizawa-sensei would never allow that," Momo pointed out.
"Aizawa-sensei wouldn't care as long as we didn't bother him about it," Akira countered.
Momo laughed, shaking her head. "You're ridiculous."
"But you're smiling," Akira noted with a small grin.
"Unfortunately, yes," Momo admitted.
She took another bite of her pasta, then offered a more practical suggestion. "What we should actually do is create a register or diary to keep track of class events, assignments, and important dates. That way, we can help students who might be struggling to keep up."
"That's actually a really good idea," Akira said, nodding approvingly. "Very organized."
"Thank you," Momo said, pleased.
"We could decorate the register with gaming stickers," Akira added.
"Akira."
"I'm just saying, it would improve morale- "
BREEEEEEEP! BREEEEEEEP! BREEEEEEEP!
The security alarm suddenly blasted through the building, the sound completely destroying the peaceful atmosphere they'd been enjoying. Red warning lights began flashing in the hallway.
The pleasant mood was shattered instantly.
"I could kill someone right now," Akira said, his voice flat and genuinely irritated. The vein in his temple was actually visible, pulsing with annoyance. He had to take a puff to calm himself.
Momo looked at him with slight concern. "You're joking, right?"
Akira turned to her with a smile. "Oh yeah. Totally joking."
They both stood up, leaving their now-interrupted lunch behind, and walked over to the large windows to see what was causing the alarm.
Below them, at the main entrance to U.A., they could see a massive crowd of reporters and media personnel. But unlike this morning when they'd been waiting somewhat patiently outside the gates, now they were trying to storm the building itself. Security personnel, AKA Present Mic and Aizawa, were struggling to hold them back, and it looked like the situation was escalating rapidly.
Cameras flashed like strobe lights. Reporters shouted questions that couldn't be heard from this distance. The entire scene was chaotic and aggressive.
"These fuckers," Akira said with deep annoyance, watching the scene unfold.
Momo sighed, her shoulders dropping slightly. "Indeed. These fuckers."
There was a moment of silence.
Then Akira gasped dramatically, placing one hand over his heart in mock horror. He turned to Momo with shock, pointing a finger at her.
"Oh my goodness! Mind your language, young lady! That's highly inappropriate for someone of your standing!"
Momo just stared at him, her expression completely flat. An expression that screamed, really?
He stared back, maintaining the outraged expression.
They stood like that for a solid 20 seconds.
Then both of them burst out laughing, the absurdity of him, of all people, criticizing someone else's language, too ridiculous to ignore.
Their laughter echoed in the quiet corridor, a small moment of amusement despite the chaos happening below.
"You're the worst," Momo said between laughs, wiping at her eyes.
"I know," Akira agreed cheerfully.
The alarm continued to blast in the background, and they knew they'd have to head back to class soon to see what was happening. But for just a few more seconds, they stood there together at the window, laughing about nothing in particular.
Sometimes, those were the best moments.
Even if they were interrupted by stupid reporters trying to break into a school full of teenagers with superpowers.
What could possibly go wrong?
