The City Lord's carriage stopped in front of Dawn House.
The four guards who had accompanied him remained outside while he stepped down alone. He had already decided not to enter with a large group. Whatever had happened the previous night involved matters far above ordinary city authority, and arriving with armed men would only make the conversation more difficult than it needed to be.
The Dawn House guards recognized him immediately.
"City Lord."
The City Lord nodded.
"I am here to see Sekhmet."
One of the guards bowed.
"Please come inside."
No one made him wait at the gate.
A servant was sent ahead while another guided him through the residence. The City Lord looked around as he walked. Dawn House was far quieter than he expected after everything that had happened. Several injured battle maids were being treated in a side courtyard, and servants moved quickly between the different buildings, but there was no panic.
That told him something.
