Chapter 25 - Parting For Strength-3

Crnk...Fsssh

As the drops of cold water fell on Calix, his mind relaxed. So much..that he stilled for a moment enjoying the slight cold tranquility in it.

A tired sigh escaping from his lips. Too much had happened in a single day for him to easily digest it and yet...all of it had passed.

His gaze shifted to the scar as he looked down at his chest, dark rage filling his eyes. However, he controlled it. It was useless...he would die within a blink of the knight fought him seriously.

No one, had told him that. It was just a feeling. A feeling he got when he fought that beast. However, as if never wanting to let him have a moment of serenity, a cynical chime rang in his head.

Ding...

"Haa." He sighed wistfully, then looked at the translucent screen where a message appeared.

"Ah, i am tired." Calix groaned as he covered his face with his palms, pressing his eyes lightly.

[Come on, host. This much is nothing to the Successor. You can do it, this mighty system believe's in you.]

"Was that supposed be motivating?" He said.

[It wasn't...]

After finishing the shower and dressing up Calix came out. He wore a white shirt, with a vintage design while his pants were black.

"Hey, uh..can I get like a band or something similar to that, you see these long hairs are a bit too hard to maintain?"

He asked ruffling his hand through his hair, they covered almost half of face.

"Here... it's a ribbon you can use it for now." Anaerah said as she gave him a red coloured ribbon.

"Thank you." Saying that he tied his hair up finally revealing his face clearly to the two ladies in the carriage.

"Ah?"

"Whoa."

A strange sound left from both of their mouth, as Calix's face came into proper view this time. Before, he had his face covered with his hair while half of it was marred with blood and dust.

So much wasn't visible however now they could see it in all it's glory and damn, it was something else.

Anaerah had looked at good amount of men, in her carrier while Cynthia had meet many handsome faces in her noble life.

Yet, both of them couldn't help but take a rather long look at his face. Even with it's being slightly malnourished and pale.

It was beautiful.

As if carved with intense care, every part of his face from his nose to eyes they all, looked like finest paices of art.

'Well atleast something is good.' He thought looking at the duo's reaction.

Yes, even he was shocked by how much good he looked with his new face. Appreciating his face for a moment more, Calix finally spoke up.

"Ah, so i will be leaving the carriage. Thankyou for the ride." He said looking straight at Anaerah, already knowing that she had also seen his status window and the quest.

"Um... can't you just rest for a day?" She asked.

"Well, i could buy we are close to the place where i want to stop so it will be much better if i leave right now. " He said.

Anaerah understanding his words also spoke.

"Fine, you can take one of the horses and some basic necessities from us."

"But, My lady what about the Duke, i have already informed him that you and both your saviour is coming." Cynthia interrupted between them.

"Saviour?" Calix raised a brow at that word.

"Yes, you pretty much saved my life by distracting the Boss and letting me call for help. So it's deserving i guess." Anaerah replied.

"But don't worry, i will talk to Du- father. He will understand it. You can go if you want but will you come there?" Anaerah spoke to Cynthia first turned towards Calix at her last words.

"Heh, do you think I have any other options princess?" Calix shrugged smirking lightly.

"I guess not. So three months." Anaerah spoke raising her hand towards him for a goodbye.

"Hmm, yes three months." He shaked it.

As the first rays of the sun graced the forest with their reddish-orange life, the darkness slowly retreated.

Folding itself back into the depths between ancient trunks. The night's chill still lingered in the air, but it was no longer oppressive.

Dew shimmered on leaves and grass, catching the newborn light like scattered embers across the earth.

The carriage stood at the edge of the forest path, its strong wooden body bathed in the warm glow of dawn.

Calix stepped down first.

The soft crunch of gravel echoed beneath his boots as his feet touched the ground. For a moment, he simply stood there, breathing in the cool morning air.

It smelled of damp soil, moss, and distant pine—fresh, untainted, and honest. A sharp contrast to the blood, fear, and chaos he had endured the day or rather night before.

Behind him, Anaerah and Cynthia followed, their cloaks catching the light breeze.

A brown horse stood a short distance away, reins tied loosely to a low branch. A small pack hung from its side, stuffed with basic necessities—dried rations, a water bottle, simple medical supplies, and a spare cloak.

Nothing extravagant as even they have rushed, yet far more than enough for someone who planned to survive rather than travel comfortably.

"This should last you for a while," Anaerah said quietly, her gaze steady as she looked at him. "If you manage it well."

Calix nodded. "It's more than I expected."

He walked toward the horse, resting a hand on its neck. The animal shifted slightly but remained calm, snorting softly as if acknowledging him.

Calix tightened the straps on the pack, double-checking everything.

"Well, see you later." He said and with that the boy was gone.
