"What are you doing here?"
Jamie stopped so abruptly at the bottom of the school steps that the student behind him almost walked straight into his back.
Jett stood a few feet away beside his car, arms folded, like he'd been waiting there for a long time. He didn't even look bothered by the curious glances from passing students. If anything, he looked oddly calm.
Like Jamie was the only thing he could see.
"I came to see you." Jett said simply.
Jamie blinked at him. "You could've texted."
"I did." Jett replied.
Jamie pulled out his phone. Three missed messages. He winced internally and locked the screen again. "I was in class."
Jett nodded once. "I figured. Why are you in class on a Saturday?"
"Advanced class. I need it for my project." Jamie replied.
"Oh."
Silence stretched between them for a moment, a bit awkward. Students moved around them, laughter, chatter, cars starting. Everything felt loud except the space between them.
