Six months had flown by for Daigo, vanishing among the dunes of his memory like grains of fine sand in a desert storm.
During this time, the Valley of the Elephants had ceased to be a mere training ground and had become his sanctuary a home away from home where he could focus on training without being disturbed.
Daigo did not feel as though he were in forced isolation or a sentence of solitude; on the contrary, he enjoyed every sunrise where the sun warmed the reddish rocks and every night where the absolute silence of the valley allowed him to hear the deep, rhythmic heartbeat of the earth.
He had perfected the lava Mantle until it felt as natural as his own skin. He no longer needed minutes of intense concentration to balance the natures of wind, lava, and crystal; now it was an instantaneous process, a dance of energies that flowed with the same ease as a veteran musician playing their favorite instrument.
Of course, the main problem that still remained was the massive chakra cost of creating the mantle and maintaining it for every jutsu. Therefore, he would only use it when absolutely necessary or against someone with a total defense.
Additionally, his control over Crystal Dust and new earth jutsus he had learned were further mastered, ensuring they did not consume too much chakra.
One midday, while Daigo was finishing a series of complex Taijutsu movements under a scorching sun that would have made anyone else faint, moving with an agility that defied his own physical constitution, Daisen approached.
The great elephant watched him for a long while in silence, seeing how the young Kazekage moved with a grace that resembled an element of nature more than a conventional ninja. There was a peace in Daigo's movements that is only achieved when the body and mind stop fighting each other.
"You have done an incredible job these months, Daigo. Not only have you mastered the most complex and dangerous techniques I have proposed, but you have had the wisdom to enjoy the process, finding joy in the sweat and the repetition. That is what separates you from those who only seek power out of ambition or fear. Your body is ready for the next step, the most important and sacred of all," Daisen's voice boomed, making the ground beneath Daigo's feet vibrate with a comforting warmth.
Daigo stopped, his breathing rhythmic, deep, and perfectly controlled. He approached the great elephant with a genuine smile and gave its massive, wrinkled gray leg an affectionate pat a gesture that denoted the deep friendship forged between the human and the summon.
"Thank you for everything, Daisen. Seriously, I mean it from the bottom of my heart. These months have been the best of my life. You've taught me more than I thought possible, not just about chakra, lava, or the elements, but about the importance of having patience, of breathing, and of enjoying every small step of the way. I am deeply grateful to you for trusting me and for opening the doors of your home to me," Daigo said, with a warmth in his voice that showed his absolute sincerity.
"The credit is entirely yours for your good disposition, your humility, and your open heart," Daisen replied with a note of unusual tenderness in his thunderous voice.
"But now comes the true challenge, one that will test not only your body but your connection to existence itself. Matangi awaits you at the sacred temple, atop the highest mountain in the north. It is time for you to learn the greatest secret of our clan, the power that allows us to be one with the world: Senjutsu".
Daigo accepted the challenge with a contagious enthusiasm that lit up his face. He gathered his few belongings, said goodbye to the young elephants with whom he often shared games and hours of practice, and set off on the journey toward the north.
Before him rose the most imposing mountain in the valley, a stone colossus whose slopes were shrouded in mist and whose peak seemed embedded in the very firmament.
Upon reaching the base, Daisen's words resonated clearly in his mind: he had to climb relying solely on his physical strength and his will, without resorting to his chakra to make the task easier.
"Just like the first time," Daigo said to himself, letting out a small laugh as he remembered that distant day when Matangi forced him to make the same ascent.
"Let's see how much that boy who almost gave up halfway has changed. This time, the mountain and I are old friends".
Unlike his first experience, where every meter gained was an agonizing battle against exhaustion, with lungs burning and fingers bleeding from the friction of the stone, Daigo began the ascent with an almost playful ease.
His muscles now perfectly toned, elastic, and full of vibrant vitality responded to every demand with millimetric precision. His hands found the grips on the rock with an amazing intuition, as if the mountain itself were guiding his fingers toward the firmest cracks.
There was no rush in his ascent, but no pause either. Daigo enjoyed the fresh, pure air hitting his face as he gained altitude, admiring the panoramic view of the valley that stretched below him like an infinite tapestry of earth, green, and fire colors.
What was once a year-long ordeal of suffering now became a pleasant exercise of a few hours. He reached the summit feeling full of energy, his heart beating with rhythmic strength but without a trace of fatigue, as if he had taken a simple and pleasant stroll through the gardens of Suna.
There, in front of the imposing entrance of the temple carved directly into the living rock, Matangi was waiting for him. She was sitting quietly, her gaze fixed on the infinite horizon, but her ears moved slightly as she detected the young man's arrival long before he reached the top.
Seeing Daigo appear so quickly, with his forehead barely pearled with sweat and a radiant smile full of life on his face, she stood up, unable to hide a spark of amazement in her wise eyes.
"Wow, you really have grown since the last time I saw you, little Daigo," Matangi said, crossing her arms but showing a look of deep approval that Daigo had not seen from her before.
"You no longer look like that weak and immature boy; the war seems to have shaped you into a formidable warrior... you even lost an eye".
"I've learned a lot during all the time that has passed, Matangi. I didn't come here just to get strong, but to understand this place," Daigo replied with total honesty, making a small and respectful bow.
"Daisen thinks I'm ready for what comes next, and I also feel ready within myself. I have exactly ten months left before I have to return to Suna to fulfill my duties, and I want to make the most of them to learn the secrets of the Sage Mode of your people".
Matangi nodded slowly, inviting him inside the temple with an elegant gesture of her head. The air inside the enclosure was different; it smelled of ancient incense, wet earth, and something electric, like the atmosphere before a storm.
"If Dad has sent you today, it's because he fully trusts your capacity for balance and your maturity. And I, seeing you standing here with such clean energy, do too. But you must understand something important, Daigo: the Sage Mode of the Elephants is not like the ones you might have heard of in legends from other places. Here, we do not seek to turn into stone statues, nor do we isolate ourselves from the flow of the world to collect energy statically," Matangi explained as they walked down a corridor whose walls were engraved with the ancestral history of the clan.
"What do you mean by that? I always thought Senjutsu required absolute stillness, like the water in a well," Daigo asked, genuinely intrigued by his new teacher's approach.
"We do not collect natural energy like someone filling a water jug," Matangi continued, stopping before a large bronze door engraved with circular mandalas.
"For us, natural energy is a frequency—
a song that the planet constantly sings through its roots, its mountains, and its molten core. The Sage Mode of the Elephants is based on Earth Resonance. You don't drink the energy; you tune into it until you cease to be an individual and become part of the orchestra".
Matangi led him to the main hall of the temple, a massive circular room where the floor was not smooth stone, but an extremely fine white sand that seemed to vibrate on its own, creating geometric patterns that constantly changed.
In the center, surrounded by a halo of natural light descending from the ceiling, stood several white stone pillars, similar to those Daigo had seen outside that withstood time, but these seemed to pulse with an inner light of their own, as if they had a heart.
"This is where your true learning begins, Daigo," Matangi said, pointing to the vibrating sand circle.
"Natural energy isn't something you simply 'store' inside you to use as fuel. It's a frequency that moves through everything that exists. To enter our Sage Mode, you must learn to match your own chakra, your heart rate, and even your breathing with the vibration of the planet.
If your frequency is different, even by one note, the natural energy will reject you violently, shaking you as if an earthquake were occurring inside your very bones. But if you achieve perfect resonance... you become a pure channel. The earth's energy will flow through you without resistance, empowering every cell, every jutsu, and every thought with the power of creation itself".
Daigo listened with absolute attention, feeling a growing excitement and curiosity. The idea of an "active harmony" instead of a dead stillness resonated deeply with everything he had learned about wind, lava, and movement during his stay in the valley.
"Your first task, Daigo, is to sit in that sand circle. Through your breathing and your chakra control, you must try to match the vibration that these stone pillars will emit," Matangi explained, placing her paw on one of the stones.
Upon contact, the pillar began to emit a low, deep, and rhythmic sound a frequency so low that Daigo didn't just hear it with his ears, but felt it vibrating in his teeth, in his back, and in the very center of his chest. It was the sound of the world moving.
"If you fail to tune in, the sand will expel you with force and your chakra coils will feel as if they are filled with ice needles. But if you succeed, you will begin to hear the vibration of the earth itself," Matangi warned seriously, though her eyes showed hope.
Daigo walked to the center of the circle, sat in a lotus position with a straight back, and closed his eyes, a small smile of determination on his face.
He breathed in deeply, feeling the sacred air of the temple fill his lungs and calm his spirit. He felt no fear of failure, but rather a vibrant joy for discovering this new level of connection with existence.
"I have ten months, Matangi, and I don't plan to waste a single second. If the world has a song, I'm more than ready to learn to sing it with it. Let's begin," Daigo said with a firm voice full of enthusiasm, while the buzzing of the pillars began to envelop him completely, marking the start of his definitive transformation toward the Sage Mode of the Elephants.
"Then let the symphony begin, young Kazekage," Matangi replied, as the entire temple began to resonate with an energy that Daigo, for the first time, was starting to understand not as a mere weapon of war, but as a sacred and eternal connection with the universe surrounding him.
Daigo immersed himself in his first resonant meditation session. He knew the path would be immensely difficult that matching the frequency of an entire planet would require control and sensitivity that surpassed everything he had done so far but he was happy.
He was in the right place, with the right teachers, and with enough time to become a force that everyone would talk about.
He realized that the earth element was not just "hard and heavy rock," but the vibrant foundation of all life, and he was finally learning to listen to its beating heart.
With every breath, Daigo tried to soften his own chakra, delicately molding it so that it ceased to be an individual current and began to dance to the rhythm of the crystal pillars
while Matangi watched him in respectful silence, knowing she was witnessing the birth of a sage unlike any the ninja world had ever seen before.
