Exactly six months had passed since Daigo first set foot in the lands of the summons—a place where the laws of nature seemed dictated by the will of the giants who inhabited it.

In the outside world, the seasons would be changing; the villages would be mired in their petty political intrigues, and the sun of Suna would be punishing the dunes with its relentless heat. But for Daigo, none of that existed where he was now.

He had 18 months left to fulfill his deadline. What for an ordinary shinobi would be a sentence, for Daigo was a breath of peace as he learned new things.

He sat on the edge of a massive pool of lava that he himself had transmuted from the rocky ground—a pool of liquid fire that bubbled with a low, constant roar. The heat was so intense that the air around Daigo distorted, creating a mirage effect that made his figure appear to vibrate. His skin, now tougher and marked by small burn scars, barely sweated; his body had adapted to extreme temperatures, learning to regulate the flow of chakra to cool his internal organs while his exterior endured hell.

However, despite his physical resistance, Daigo faced a technical wall that his intellect had yet to tear down. The day's experiment was simple in concept but impossible in practice: he wanted to create crystal spears directly from within the pool of lava. His theory was that if he could master this technique, he could turn any volcanic terrain into a field of deadly stakes, surprising his enemies from the most unexpected angles.

Daigo extended his right hand over the orange magma. His fingers tensed, and he sent a massive pulse of chakra into the depths of the glowing liquid.

In the center of the pit, a sharp tip of pink crystal began to emerge. But before the spear could even reach ten centimeters in height, disaster struck. The thermal shock between the rigid atomic structure of the crystal and the fluid heat of the actual lava caused a violent reaction. The crystal emitted a sharp crack, similar to a bone snapping, and exploded into a cloud of brilliant shrapnel and fragments of molten stone.

Daigo didn't move. A piece of hot crystal struck his shoulder, burning through his clothes and leaving a red mark on his skin, but he didn't even blink.

His eyes were now two pits of cold, analytical observation. There was no frustration, no cries of rage. He simply lowered his hand and watched the remains of his failure floating in the lava.

"It is useless," Daisen's voice boomed from the distance of a rocky ledge. The massive elephant merely watched him from afar without needing to walk toward him.

"You are trying to make the crystal and the lava act as one. The Shōton is solid; it is a structure that refuses to change even in small pieces, and the lava is the opposite. If you force them to touch in their pure state, matter will simply rebel."

Daigo stood up, brushing the ash off his pants. "I've calculated the density needed for the crystal to withstand the heat, but the coefficient of thermal expansion is too high. The crystal expands unevenly from the outside in and explodes. I need something to protect it at the moment of its birth."

"You need an intermediary," Daisen said while drinking water in the distance.

"Remember when you first came here and couldn't use Shōton because you needed an intermediary?" Daisen reminded Daigo, who nodded.

"Yes, I remember. At that time, it was because I hadn't practiced Yin and Yang chakra, but after practicing medical ninjutsu and genjutsu, it grew stronger. But I don't see how that helps me here," Daigo said.

"You need the void. What if you try Wind? If you can create a membrane of air that envelops the crystal as it emerges from the lava, the heat won't touch the mineral's surface directly, allowing you to achieve that combination of crystal spears and lava," Daisen explained.

"That doesn't sound like a bad idea, Daisen. I'll try it," Daigo said.

"Don't do it yet, because your current Wind control is very poor, and the lava will only destroy it. You have to learn more about it first."

Daigo understood immediately. He had imagined enveloping the crystal with gusts of wind. What he needed was molecular precision—a vacuum of ultra-fine pressurized air that would act as a perfect thermal insulator.

Thus, Daisen led him through the valley mountains to where a waterfall fell from a height of nearly sixty meters. The noise was deafening—a constant roar that made the nearby ground vibrate. The water didn't fall in drops but in a compact, heavy mass—a column of white pressure that struck the bottom rock with the force of a meteorite.

"Stand under the fall," Daisen ordered. "I don't want you to use your Keijūgan to make yourself heavy and resist the blow. I want you to use your Wind chakra to split the waterfall in half. You must create a dry path over your head without moving. If you can cut the flow of a mountain of water, you can create the membrane your crystal needs."

The waterfall training was a hell that tested Daigo's sanity. For the first two weeks, the result was always the same: the water struck him with such violence that it threw him against the rocks at the bottom, leaving him breathless and his body covered in purple bruises. The cold of the waterfall water contrasted violently with the heat of the lava he had grown accustomed to, causing tremors he could barely control.

But it was in this setting of physical punishment that Daigo's mind finished its transformation. He realized that to split the water, he couldn't simply "push" with his chakra. The wind had to be an invisible blade, an extension of his will so thin that it found no resistance in the water molecules.

He spent ten, twelve hours a day standing at the base of the waterfall. His gaze became distant, focused solely on the point where the water collided with his energy. Daigo's patience became terrifying. He used the water pressure hitting his body to train three things at once.

Daisen watched from the shore, noticing how Daigo's aura changed, with a pink aura emanating from him. Daisen thought about interrupting, as Daigo was using the Seven Heavenly Breaths, which would give him a boost; but then he realized this would help improve his breathing techniques due to the pressure of the waterfall.

Thus, two months went by until finally, what seemed impossible happened. Daigo stood under the roar of the white waterfall. He took a deep breath, inhaling the moist air charged with power from his breathing.

Instead of projecting a gust, he concentrated his Wind chakra into a perfect vertical line emanating from his crown and shoulders. There was no burst of energy, only a whisper of wind.

Suddenly, the water falling over him separated. As if an invisible blade miles long had appeared out of nowhere, the column of water split into two perfect flows, leaving a void beneath where Daigo's air kept them apart.

The young man remained there with his eyes closed, hearing the roar of the water stop but feeling the absolute calm of the void he had created. There wasn't a single drop on his hair. He had achieved the surgical precision of the wind.

"The void has been mastered," Daisen whispered, his voice heavy with a respect he rarely showed.

Daigo stepped out of the dry circle with calm. Seconds after he stepped out, the waterfall crashed back down with full force against the ground, making the sound of a dragon's roar.

"Let's go back to the lava pit, Daisen. I'm ready."

Back at the crater, the scene was the same. Daigo knelt in front of the bubbling magma, placing both hands on the edge of the pool. He activated his Seismic Sense to perfectly locate the position where the crystal spears would emerge.

He enveloped the intent of the crystal with a membrane of pressurized air so thin it was invisible to the human eye, but so dense it created an impenetrable thermal barrier.

From the center of the orange lava, a pink crystal spear emerged. This time, there were no explosions. There were no cracks. The spear rose majestically, vibrating with a high-pitched hum due to the friction of the wind against the lava. The incandescent liquid slid down the sides of the crystal as if it were water on a raincoat, creating an amazing visual effect: a diamond weapon that seemed bathed in living fire.

Daigo observed the spear. The heat it emanated was such that the surrounding air ignited, but thanks to the wind membrane, the crystal did not melt. It was the ultimate stability technique: Shōton: Magma Mantle.

"I did it," Daigo said.

Daisen approached, his shadow covering the young man and his burning spear.

"Congratulations. You have created a technique that not only cuts but burns anyone pierced by this jutsu; they will not be able to survive. However, your reserves are suffering, aren't they?" Daisen said.

"That's right. I hadn't realized, but they are very low. I think I'm done for today, Daisen," Daigo said, using his last reserves to cover the lava pit, leaving it as it was before.

"What is the next plan, Daisen? I've managed to create lava, combine it with my crystal, improve my physique along with my control of the Seven Heavenly Breaths, my Seismic Sense, and finally my Wind and Fire elements."

"Indeed, you have learned many things, but you have not mastered them. For something to be completely learned, you must practice it over and over and over until it becomes a part of yourself. Do you understand what I'm telling you?"

"Yes. So for the time that remains, you want me to keep practicing what I've learned?" Daigo asked.

"Exactly. Until I see that you are ready to learn what no human has ever done."

"And what is that, Daisen?"

"The Sage Mode of the Elephants."

"The Sage Mode is what your daughter uses, right? She told me she is the only one besides you who has mastered it," Daigo said.

"That's right. Matangi will teach you, as she is the current head of the clan. It won't be easy; in all the years we've existed, no human has been able to master it, but I believe it won't be long for you," Daisen said.

"Thank you for the opportunity to learn Sage Mode, Daisen. If you believe I can achieve it, I won't disappoint you."

"I know you won't."

That night, Daigo remained alone under the starry sky of the valley. He reflected on the 16 months he had left. All this time here, Daigo had been growing much stronger than before, and if he managed to control this technique so that any crystal jutsu used lava, he would be a danger to any ninja.

He realized that the Wind element was very strong, especially after training it for a long time, although for him, Earth was still the strongest.
