Exactly two months had passed since Daigo had begun training without rest. He had completely lost track of the time he had spent there, though that was not his priority; Daisen would let him know when it was time to return. In all this time, Daigo had improved significantly.
Now, the Keijūgan no Jutsu had become like a second skin a frequency his body tuned into almost unconsciously, like a heartbeat.
At the summit of one of the highest stones in the valley, where the oxygen was thin and the cold biting, Daigo remained motionless, suspended hundreds of meters in the air, defying gravity with an absolute calm.
Around him, a massive cloud of pink crystal dust orbited with a hypnotic fluidity, forming rings reminiscent of those around a planet. During that month of isolation and physical meditation, Daigo had come to understand that his Shōtondid not always need to be solid, rigid, and heavy.
Thanks to a technical blend of his affinity with Wind, which he used to guide the currents, he had managed to make every crystal particle respond to a coordinated internal vibration.
He no longer lost the connection as they moved away; his mind had learned to expand its sensory "bandwidth," feeling each grain of dust as if it were a nerve ending extended beyond his own skin.
Daisen observed him from the base of the mountain, his enormous figure reduced to a small gray dot in the vastness of the valley, but his voice, charged with chakra, echoed in Daigo's ears with the clarity of a whisper.
"That is enough. You have been using your chakra and meditating for two days straight without stopping," Daisen said.
Daigo descended with a fluid movement. He loved this jutsu; being able to float through the air gave him a sense of freedom he had never experienced before.
Now he understood why that old man Onoki never stopped using it; it wasn't just a tactical advantage, it was the feeling of having no chains tying you to the earth. Upon touching solid ground, the cloud of crystal dust instantly compacted behind him, forming a sort of shimmering mantle that pulsed with a faint pink light, almost as if it were alive.
Daigo breathed deeply, feeling his muscles denser, his tendons more elastic, and his chakra system much more robust than sixty days ago.
"I have managed to maintain the rotation of the cloud for more than 48 hours without feeling the exhaustion as strongly," Daigo said while looking at his master with serene determination.
"And the Keijūgan no longer causes the vertigo that used to make me lose my balance. I can switch from light-weight to heavy-weight in less than a second, almost by pure instinct."
Daisen nodded with his trunk at Daigo's words and responded with a severity intended to guide.
"That makes you fast, agile, and an extremely difficult rival when it comes to fighting, though that is not the only thing I will teach you. There is still time left where we can learn more, or are you satisfied?" Daisen asked.
"Of course not. I still want to learn more; this is not enough," Daigo replied.
"Perfect. We will move on to the next step: the Lava Element of the elephants. Although first, you will need to train your affinity with Fire, as you haven't done that yet, have you?"
Daigo frowned slightly, aware of his own elemental limitations. His control over Water was barely basic having only learned it to see if it helped with his crystal control and his mastery of Earth was already that of an expert.
But he hadn't considered learning Fire, as he didn't view it as a strong element unless it was the Shakuton (Scorch Release).
"Well, you have a point there, but is it really necessary to use the element?" Daigo admitted sincerely. "My learning in other elements is very slow compared to Earth."
"Daigo, the Fire element is necessary for the lava element, but for us elephants, it is not as complex in the traditional way. We primarily create lava by using vibrations along with fire and earth chakra to create friction within the earth that forms it," Daisen explained.
"And what is the difference between your lava and that of us humans?" Daigo asked with genuine curiosity.
"We focus on making actual lava ground, which is very hot, and then we can manipulate it. In contrast, the humans I have seen try to bypass the step of creating a lava pool and directly project the substance from their bodies, creating a simpler or more diluted version," Daisen responded.
"Interesting. It's like that ninja from Kumo who uses Lava Release to create a rubber-like material that is very useful," Daigo said.
"That is a clear example of it," Daisen confirmed.
"Understood. Now, Daisen, let's begin."
Daisen did not allow Daigo to attempt launching large flares immediately. Instead, he reached his trunk toward a nearby tree and plucked a few green leaves, placing them on a flat stone in front of the young man.
"Before melting mountains, you must learn not to consume what you touch. Fire is not just destruction; it is extreme precision. I want you to infuse your chakra into the edges of this leaf. Do not burn it completely. I only want to see a black thread of ash tracing the outline without the center withering."
Daigo stared at the leaf, confused. It seemed like a simple task, but upon trying, he realized his Earth-natured chakra was too dense. The first time he tried to generate heat, the leaf simply disintegrated in a flash of light.
The second time, he didn't even manage to warm the air. For the first two weeks, the training was a lesson in absolute humility. Daigo spent hours crouched over small leaves, breaking into a cold sweat, trying to make his energy not a hammer, but an incandescent scalpel.
"Fire is a rapid vibration, Daigo, but it must be contained by your will," Daisen reminded him every time a leaf turned into useless ash.
Gradually, the Kazekage's skill improved. He began to understand that the secret lay in using his chakra to channel heat only toward the edges, isolating the core of the matter. After twenty days of failed attempts, Daigo finally managed to keep a leaf intact at its center while a perfect border of charcoal outlined its shape.
It was the moment his Fire chakra stopped being a foreign energy and became a tool he could manipulate.
From there, Daisen increased the scale. They moved from leaves to dry branches, and then to damp logs that Daigo had to dry and ignite from the inside out without causing an explosion or a large flare.
This month-long process was what truly forged his control. By the end of the thirty days, Daigo was no longer the ninja who couldn't use Katon (Fire Release); he could now generate a sharp, stable heat enough to begin the real process of lava.
"You have learned to control the ember," Daisen said with approval.
"Now, the moment of truth. We must fuse this heat with the earth to generate real lava."
Daisen led Daigo to an area of the valley where the ground was composed of heavy sedimentary rocks.
"I will show you first how it is done; stay by my side," Daisen told him as he positioned himself next to the boy.
Concentrating, Daisen began to deliver soft taps against the ground.
Daigo, using his Seismic Sense, felt as if Daisen were creating a song with every touch. However, that was when he felt something different, and it continued until, in front of him, the earth seemed to melt. Lava began to seep from the ground, creating a pool large enough to look like a fairly big swimming pool.
"See how it is? Now, with this base, you can control it to create waves of lava, or harden it and throw it like stones, or even create weapons like shurikens and kunais made of lava to deal more damage. We use it mostly to control the terrain and mold it," Daisen explained.
He tapped the ground gently with his foot again, and the lava began to disappear; the same stone that was lava moments ago returned to normal, turning a dark color along with the rest.
"There is the difference, as I told you before. Human lava is like spitting a jutsu. Ours is transforming the environment. Now it's your turn. Place your hands on the ground, Daigo. Use your Earth chakra to soften the structure of the rock, use your Fire chakra to raise its temperature, and use your vibrations to accelerate the process of liquefaction."
Daigo knelt, sinking his fingers into the cold earth. He closed his eyes, activating his Seismic Sense to map the mineral composition beneath him.
First, he sent his Earth chakra, feeling the pores of the rock dilate. Then, he injected the small but intense flame he had perfected over the last month the same one he had learned to control by burning leaf edges.
At first, nothing happened. The earth remained solid, absorbing the heat without flinching.
"More vibration!" Daisen ordered. "Make the molecules collide until they cannot maintain their solid form!"
Daigo bit his teeth, making his chakra vibrate at such a high frequency that his own arms began to go numb.
Suddenly, a low hiss began to emanate from the ground. A small crack opened between his hands, and an intense orange glow began to sprout from the depths.
The ground became viscous, losing its rigidity. The heat radiating from it was overwhelming, very different from anything Daigo had felt before. It wasn't the dry heat of the desert, but a heavy, liquid, primordial heat.
Little by little, a small pool of authentic lava, thick and bubbling, began to form around his fingers. Daigo felt a sting of pain when the temperature exceeded his skin's resistance, but he did not stop. He was creating liquid matter from solid rock.
It was a sensation of absolute power; he was altering the physical state of the world at his whim.
"That is... real lava," Daigo whispered, watching the pool expand, melting everything in its path with a terrifying slowness.
Daisen watched with a look of satisfaction. Daigo had overcome the month of learning fire, starting from the smallest detail, and was now entering the realm of composite elements with a solid foundation.
The young Kazekage had not only learned to float and manipulate diamond clouds; he was now learning to melt the very foundations of the world.
"This is only the beginning, Daigo," Daisen said as white smoke rose from the new lava pool.
"Now that you know how to create it from the ground, the next step will be learning how that lava can coexist with your crystal without destroying it, or better yet, how to fuse them into a single weapon."
Daigo looked at the orange glow reflected in his crystal eyes. He knew that the training of these two months had only been the preparation for what was to come.
The path of the elephant's Yōton was long, but for the first time, he felt he had all the pieces of the puzzle in his hands.
His control, refined from the burning of a simple leaf to the creation of a magmatic pit, gave him the confidence needed to face any challenge.
During the nights that followed his first success with the lava, Daigo couldn't help but reflect on the magnitude of what he was achieving. In Suna, ninjas specialized in long-range techniques or puppets, but he was developing a form of combat that transformed the battlefield itself.
He imagined himself in a future confrontation: he wouldn't just attack with projectiles; he would turn the ground beneath his enemies' feet into a liquid hell while he remained safe in the air thanks to the Keijūgan.
His mastery of fire, though still basic compared to a natural-born Katon master, was now stable enough to integrate into his usual chakra flow.
