As Sasori arrived at Todo's camp, the first thing he noticed was the energy previously dull, it was now much more lively.
Entering Todo's tent, he saw everyone gathered just as they had been the last time he was there.
To Sasori's surprise, however, it wasn't just two drunks anymore; they had been joined by another: Daigo.
Sasori looked at Pakura, seeking an answer for what was happening, but he only received a look of resignation from her.
"Oh, Sasori! You're back from your mission. Welcome back, come here and have a bit of this," Daigo said, standing up and offering some sake to Sasori.
Before Sasori could give his opinion on whether he wanted any or not, Pakura's hand blurred into motion, striking Daigo's hand and sending the sake bottle flying, shattering it in the process.
"Daigo, that's enough drinking for you. Don't offer any to Sasori," Pakura said, clearly annoyed.
Daigo, feeling Pakura's anger, backed away slightly to avoid a further scolding.
"Come on, Pakura-chan... I deserve a little. We've been attacking bases and working hard, and Sasori deserves some too," Daigo said, trying to reason with her, though it seemed she had her ears closed as she continued to glare at him.
As for Todo and Haru, they remained silent, watching everything with intense focus; to them, it was like watching a live romance novel.
"I think Pakura is right. Stop drinking; you're behaving like those two behind you," Sasori said, noticing how the two in the back looked offended by the comment.
Daigo tried to make another joke in his drunken state, but Pakura had finally had enough. She grabbed him by his Jonin vest and hauled him out of Todo's tent, with Sasori walking calmly behind them.
As the three left, Todo and Haru looked at each other and laughed. "Those two will end up together, let's bet on it," Todo said with a wide grin.
"Eh, that's not a bet. It's obvious Pakura already has him in the palm of her hand. If I accept the bet, I'll lose," Haru replied, annoyed with Todo.
Yashamaru, along with Shizuka and Baki, who were nearby and heard everything, didn't hesitate to leave as well, feeling they would end up just like them if they stayed.
In Daigo's tent, after dragging him there, Pakura threw him inside before closing the door. Sasori watched, waiting for the pair to finish their show so he could speak.
He saw that as soon as Daigo hit the floor, he fell fast asleep, a spit bubble forming at his mouth while small snores escaped him.
Seeing this, Pakura just shook her head, walked over to a chair, sat down, and drank from her canteen.
"It seems you haven't had a good time lately," Sasori remarked, looking at Pakura.
"How could I, when I have to look after three drunks, and one is more troublesome than the other two?" Pakura replied, sighing to calm herself.
"That sounds very annoying. I'm sorry. What has happened during these weeks I was away?" Sasori asked, wanting to be briefed.
"It's a long story, but there's nothing else to do, so I'll tell you. After you left, we attacked one of the main camps. Everything went according to plan, but a threat we hadn't accounted for was there."
"Who was this threat?"
"It was one of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist, Fuguki Suikazan. Daigo and Baki faced him, but Baki was injured, so Daigo took charge. After a long battle, he managed to defeat him and claimed one of the seven legendary swords, Samehada," Pakura commented.
"Interesting. So you had a fairly active start. I imagine Kirigakure didn't react very kindly," Sasori asked.
"No, they sent more ninjas, though we took care of most of them with Todo and Haru. There weren't many concerns. We even fought against three of the swordsmen, but it didn't lead to anything serious just a clash. However, because of that, they found out it was Daigo who defeated Fuguki, putting him in Kirigakure's Bingo Book," Pakura explained.
"The Bingo Book? I didn't expect Daigo to be in one already. How much is the bounty?"
"Here, see for yourself," Pakura said, passing him a Kirigakure Bingo Book.
Curious, Sasori opened the book and flipped to the final pages, finding a photo of Daigo with a defiant smile.
Name: Daigo of Sunagakure.
Age: 14
Danger Rank: A-Class (S-Class Potential).
Status: Priority Elimination / Capture (Dead or Alive).
Bounty: 10,000,000 Ryo.
Warning: He is the only known wielder of the Shōton (Crystal Release) Kekkei Genkai in Sunagakure at this time. He is credited with the death of Fuguki Suikazan and the theft of the national sword, Samehada. Extremely dangerous in close combat and terrain manipulation with his crystal jutsus.
"It seems they are truly upset to put such a high reward on him," Sasori said, returning the book to Pakura.
"Yes, especially when the swordsmen of the mist came for the sword and we didn't give it back. But thanks to Haru and Todo, we've managed to almost completely withdraw Kirigakure from the east."
"I see. When do you plan to attack?"
"Daigo said that in two days we'll go to finish the job. He was waiting for you; that's why he started drinking, and with those other two tempting him, he couldn't hold back."
Sasori and Pakura were about to continue the conversation, but a noise made them both turn to look at Daigo, who got up from his bed as if he had slept for days.
Daigo looked at both of them, confused, before wiping his eyes to make sure they were both real. A grimace of pain crossed his face as he put his hands to his head.
"Ahh... why the hell does my head hurt so much? You didn't hit me harder than usual, did you, Pakura-chan?" Daigo said, getting up and splashing water on his face.
"Good morning. Finally awake," Sasori said, watching him.
"Good morning to you too. Pakura-chan, why aren't you answering? I've told you to stop hitting me, I'm going to end up stupid," Daigo replied, annoyed by the pain.
Pakura simply ignored his words, knowing that if she spoke, she would only get angrier than she already was.
"Oh, Sasori! How did it go? I just remembered did it go well with the Daimyo?" Daigo asked without thinking, before realizing what he had said and looking at Pakura.
She stopped what she was doing. The canteen she was holding remained suspended in the air while her eyes locked onto Daigo with an intensity that made his headache fade into the background.
"Daimyo?" Pakura repeated. Her voice was too calm, making Daigo even more nervous.
"Are you telling me that while Sasori was away, he was dealing directly with the Daimyo of the Land of Wind?"
Daigo swallowed hard, realizing he had opened his mouth too much while the sake still clouded his judgment. He looked to Sasori for help, but the puppeteer simply maintained his impassive expression, leaving Daigo to face the consequences of his loose tongue.
"Daigo, look at me," Pakura ordered, standing up and walking toward him with slow steps.
"You two have no idea of the magnitude of the game you're playing. The Daimyo is not a ninja you can deceive with a jutsu and expect everything to end there. He is the political pillar that keeps other nations from devouring us. If what you are doing is threatening or forcing him, you've put a noose around the neck of every inhabitant of Sunagakure."
Pakura grabbed Daigo by the front of his shirt, again forcing him to hold her gaze. Her eyes, usually full of determination and calm, now showed a very grave seriousness.
"Pakura, I understand what you mean. Even if I act like a fool, I'm not one. We made a very good plan, and if Sasori is back here, it means he succeeded," Daigo replied, becoming more serious himself, also getting annoyed by the way she was speaking to him.
"Oh really? Then tell me the plan and stop doing everything on your own," Pakura responded.
"Fine, I'll tell you. Don't shout, my head hurts. Tell her, Sasori."
So Sasori began to tell her the entire plan, along with how his infiltration went, achieving his goal, and how the jutsu and the seal were a success.
During all that time, Pakura said nothing; she just listened, seeing that although it was madness and it had made her angry again what they had done made sense and would be of great help to Sunagakure.
Daigo also gave his perspective on why he did it, letting her know that since the Daimyo wouldn't help the easy way, it had to be the hard way.
"At least you made a good plan. Next time, don't leave me out of it," Pakura said.
"Alright, I promise. Now that the pain is going away, let's plan the final attack we have left to push Kirigakure out of the east."
Thus, the group of three began to plan the attack on the camp.
Elsewhere, at Kirigakure's last current camp, things were deadly serious. Where others had fallen one by one, the Mizukage would not retreat just like that.
He wanted blood, and he wanted Samehada back in his hands. That was why he had sent all six of the remaining living Seven Ninja Swordsmen to wait for the attack, eliminate the threat, and if possible, bring Samehada back.
The six swordsmen ensured that the mist was thick enough to hide their presence from their attackers. In the center of the Kirigakure camp, six figures were gathered, each carrying a weapon that had stained the history of the ninja nations red.
The atmosphere was charged with heavy killing intent.
"It sickens me to sit here waiting like we're Genin on our first watch," Jinin Akebino growled, rhythmically hitting the ground with the mallet of his Kabutowari axe. The dull thud vibrated in the mud. "We should already be at that Suna camp, crushing the bones of that crystal brat. Fifteen million for his head? It's an insult that Fuguki fell to someone like that."
Kushimaru Kuriarare, whose thin figure and ANBU-like appearance gave him a ghostly look, let out a sibilant laugh as he threaded a steel wire through the needle of his Nuibari sword.
"Your brutality always clouds your judgment, Jinin. Fuguki was a greedy pig, yes, but Samehada doesn't let just anyone tame her. The boy has talent to be able to finish someone like him. For my part, I want to see that ninja; this time it won't be the same."
"You guys talk too much," Juzō Biwa intervened, calmly cleaning the massive blade of the Kubikiribōchō. "The last time Kushimaru and Jinpachi came, they were driven from the desert with their tails between their legs, so you should shut up and wait," he said, looking at both mentioned.
"That was because I wasn't fighting seriously, and Kushimaru is a weakling who let himself be defeated by an unknown Jonin. You don't want me to show you how strong I am, do you, Juzo?" Jinpachi replied, annoyed at being reminded of the beating he had received.
Juzō, for his part, continued with his work, completely ignoring Jinpachi.
Ameyuri Ringo, with her Kiba blades crossed on her back, looked toward the horizon, reflecting her impatience. "Stop barking, Jinpachi. Accept the defeat, and when you get another chance, let it end your life so your shame can end," she said, smiling with her sharpened teeth, annoying Jinpachi enough to make him draw his weapon.
While the chaos of egos threatened to break out into an internal fight, a figure sitting on a log watched them.
Mangetsu Hozuki had not said a single word in hours. The leader of the swordsmen had his eyes on his companions. Beside him, the scrolls of the seven swords rested after having tried once again to summon Samehada.
Mangetsu opened his eyes slowly. His gaze held no emotion, only an absolute coldness the look of a Kirigakure ninja.
"Silence," Mangetsu said. His voice was not loud, but the weight of his authority made even Juzō stop his cleaning.
"Do you have something to say, Mangetsu?" Jinin asked with a tone laced with sarcasm, though he didn't dare raise his axe.
Mangetsu stood up, his body flowing with confidence. "If you're going to fight over nonsense, get out to another part of the camp. Furthermore, I will deal with that boy myself. You will go after his companions. Any problem with that?"
The other swordsmen exchanged looks of hatred, but none replied. They knew Mangetsu's power; they knew he was the only one capable of wielding all seven swords and that his Hydrification Technique made him almost invulnerable to physical attacks.
"The Mizukage wants blood, and he wants the sword," Mangetsu continued, looking toward the Land of Wind. "So we, the Six Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist, have to give it to him. Therefore, I don't want anyone leaving here alive." Mangetsu finished speaking and walked away alone.
The six swordsmen rose in unison, the glint of steel reflecting the moonlight. The tension between them had not vanished, but it was now directed toward another target.
