———————————————————

A week had passed since the clash between Suna and Iwa, where Suna emerged victorious.

Daigo, along with his sensei and an unconscious Pakura, did not return to Suna. Instead, they went back to their spot near the sea to continue training.

Despite being pure muscle, Todo had enough medical knowledge to heal Pakura's wounds, and time would do the rest since Pakura's condition was more due to chakra exhaustion than physical damage.

Pakura was sitting on a travel blanket, her back resting against one of the few wooden chairs.

Her deep eyes, heavy with centuries-old fatigue, were not focused on any shinobi work. Her attention was entirely on Daigo, who was training his Water element twenty meters away from her.

Daigo stood with his legs firmly planted on the seashore. Since dawn, he had been practicing the new water jutsu Todo had given him to learn.

And although there wasn't much progress yet, Daigo with his large chakra reserves could keep creating and using jutsu until he felt tired and switched to physical training.

That was the training style his sensei had designed: without a strong body, how would you endure a real battle?

During the last seven days, the kunoichi had witnessed Daigo's grueling training. Though she already knew he loved training, she hadn't realized it went to this extent.

And while she was being cared for by him and felt quite useless for not being able to train, she had only one option: spend her days sitting and watching his training.

"Pakura-chan, you look bored. Why don't you jump in the sea and enjoy your vacation?" Daigo asked as he approached her and grabbed his canteen.

"I'm still recovering. I don't have infinite energy like you to waste it swimming,"

Pakura replied, looking at him.

"Boring. Even when I'm exhausted, I throw myself into the sea to float and relax it helps clear my mind. Come on, let's do it," Daigo said, taking her hand and lifting her from the chair.

"I don't want to go in the water it must be cold," Pakura said while trying to break free from Daigo's grip though to her bad luck, both fell into the water.

Once in the water, Daigo let her go and as he had said got into a floating position, looking at the sky and closing his eyes to enjoy the moment.

Pakura, seeing this, could only shake her head and try to do the same but instead of floating, she sank. This made Daigo open his eyes to look at her while trying to hold back his laughter.

"Don't laugh—I've never tried floating in my life," Pakura replied, a little annoyed by Daigo's hidden laughter. He simply approached her.

"Fine, I won't laugh at you. Let me help you do it. Lie back as if you were going to sleep but looking at the sky, and let your body stay still without tensing just relax," Daigo explained.

Pakura did as Daigo said relaxing her body and leaning backward little by little until she reached the perfect position to float.

She felt like she had done it until she started sinking again. When she was about to open her eyes, a hand grabbed her back, keeping her floating and stable.

"See? You've got it. Now just close your eyes and rest this will help your tense muscles," Daigo said, watching her.

Silence followed next only the calm peaceful sound of the waves and the moving water could be heard.

Making Pakura feel, for the first time, a calm within herself.

"How did the mission end up in that situation, Pakura-chan?" Daigo asked.

"The reports said it was a group of around 20 Iwa shinobi, but there was no information about who they were. When we arrived at the border, there were traces of their destruction and attacks so I sent the scouting team to look for clues. But it seemed they were already waiting for us, ambushing us. With Gari there, three ninjas died without being able to do much at the start of the fight

After that, the battle began and though I could defeat Gari alone, my shinobi weren't as well off as me. If we kept fighting, we wouldn't win so I decided to retreat," Pakura explained the mission to Daigo, who simply listened.

"I understand. And I imagine they didn't let you go, so you decided to stay to give them a chance to escape."

"Yes. In the end, one sacrifice in exchange for saving 15 lives is better, right?" Pakura asked Daigo this time.

"Pakura, I don't think I have the answer you're looking for. Despite wanting to become Kazekage and feeling proud to be a Suna ninja, I don't think I'd be capable of sacrificing myself for others," Daigo said seriously, making Pakura's eyes open as she looked at him.

"Why do you say that, Daigo?"

"Because, not everyone is as loyal to the village as you are. That's why I've always respected you, you have the will to do what's necessary for it. But what would happen if that same village you love so much sends you on a mission to die?" Daigo asked

Pakura, who this time remained silent, seeming to think for several minutes.

"I think I would never forgive them and would hate them."

"Exactly. But even so, I think I know you well enough you'd still sacrifice yourself for the village's plan. Meanwhile, I would run away and save myself," Daigo said.

"Why are you telling me all this? I'm confused. I don't understand where you're going with this."

"It's simple. I wish I had the love you have for the village to be worthy of becoming Kazekage. That's why I train until exhaustion and get up to train again. I want to feel what it's like to risk my life for the village. You've achieved what I wish I could do," Daigo said, releasing Pakura's back and doing the same floating with the sea.

With the end of the conversation the day passed without nothing much passing

The next day

Pakura could be seen with everything ready to return to the village, and Daigo and Todo saying goodbye to her.

"Pakura, make sure to tell the Kazekage that I have a year of rest for rescuing you and that he shouldn't send anyone else," Todo said with a smile.

"Don't worry, I'll tell him. Thank you for healing my wounds, Todo," Pakura said, stopping to thank him.

"No need to thank me it's all for my favorite student. Well, I'll leave you two to say goodbye," Todo said, walking very slowly while whistling.

"Well, Pakura-chan, be careful on your way back to Suna. Say hi to the others for me since I won't be back for a while," Daigo said, looking at her.

"I'll tell them you're fine. Thank you for coming and saving my life. Though yesterday's conversation wasn't what I expected I hope someday that moment arrives.

When you return to the village, come find me. I have something that might interest you," Pakura replied, turning around and starting to walk.

"As you say. I'll visit you when I get back to the village. See you later, Pakura-chan," Daigo said, bidding farewell to Pakura before turning to see his sensei's face close to him.

"Not bad there, my student though I think you should be my brother from now on," Todo said, slapping Daigo's back.

"Todo-sensei, hadn't you left?"

"I did leave, but I came back. You're too slow I think you need more training."

And so Daigo's daily life continued receiving beatings from his new brother, who always taught him in his own way. Daigo finally mastered his first offensive water jutsu.

Suiton: Suishūha (Water Release: Water Whip) useful for understanding the different ways to create water jutsu.

And the days passed, turning into weeks and then two months where Daigo and Todo didn't rest a single day from making him stronger.

He managed to master even more water techniques though at a basic level. If he wanted to improve, he would need much more practice but for now, Daigo felt it was enough for what he had come to seek.

The techniques he learned were:

• Suiton: Suijinheki (Water Encampment Wall)

• Suiton: Mizu Bunshin no Jutsu (Water Release: Water Clone Technique)

• And finally, the strongest of his water jutsu: Suiton: Suiryūdan no Jutsu (Water Release: Water Dragon Bullet Technique)

Now Daigo found himself about to leave the place where he had spent two months training and getting stronger and where he had met his new brother, though he wouldn't say it out loud.

"Daigo, don't forget to visit your brother when you have time and tell me how things go with Pakura," Todo said, crying at the farewell.

"Don't worry, Todo I'll visit you. You should do the same come visit Suna from time to time," Daigo said.

"That will never happen I won't set foot there until someone creates them," Todo said, refusing to go to Suna.

"You mean the hot springs, right? Todo, you know how hard it is to even get water let alone hot springs."

"But you said there was a way to get them, right? My brother would never lie to me," Todo said.

"Yes, there's a way with my Crystal Release but I don't have it mastered yet. In the future, you'll have them, and then you'll have to visit Suna again," Daigo said before starting his journey back to Suna.

And the journey was no problem for Daigo who, with all the recent training, arrived in Suna in record time.

And without waiting, he went straight to the Kazekage's tower entering without knocking to see that the only ones in the office were the Kazekage and Rasa.

"Yoo," Daigo said, looking at both who did the same.

"So you finally came back to the village, Daigo. I thought you were going to act like Todo and never return," Rasa said.

"That's Todo I still have things to do here in the village and become Kazekage before you," Daigo said, looking at him with a very friendly smile.

"It's good to see you back. How was the training? Did you get what you went for?" the Kazekage asked, cutting through the challenging atmosphere between his disciples.

"It was perfect. Todo-sensei is a good teacher I managed to master the Water element, though I still have a long way to go. But for now, it's fine," Daigo said.

"I'm glad for your progress. Before you leave, can you make me a report of your training so we can make the necessary changes now that you're stronger?" the Kazekage asked.

"Okay, no problem I'll do it before I leave. Anything else you need, Sensei?" Daigo asked.

"For now, nothing but I might have a mission for you to do with Rasa if he needs help. So stay alert."

"Sensei, my mission will be perfect as always I don't see why Daigo would need to help me," Rasa said

"Oh, Rasa why don't you want my help? You know we could make a good team," Daigo said from his side.

"I don't need to team up with you I'm strong enough," Rasa replied.

"Hahaha, you should stop being so serious. How's Karura? I should visit her and bring her some sweets," Daigo said the last part to himself, though Rasa heard it.

"She's fine, though busy so better come another day," Rasa replied.

"As you say bye," Daigo said, leaving the room with a shunshin leaving Rasa and the Kazekage alone.

With Daigo, instead of going straight home to see his mother and father, he went somewhere else to a fairly simple house suitable for a small family.

He didn't have to knock the door opened, and Pakura came out, though unlike her shinobi clothes, she was dressed casually.

"Huh? Daigo," she said, surprised to see him.

"Yoo, I'm back."
