During midday in Sunagakure is the busiest time. Most shinobi prepare for upcoming missions, some go out to eat, others to pass the time or find something to distract themselves from their heavy work.

At least that was the reason Daigo was walking through the streets of Suna. He had been training hard to master the jutsu his sensei had been giving him, managing to use them effectively.

The first one—the Stone Dragon—was chakra-expensive. As Sensei said, it can range from C to A depending on the amount of chakra used, so most of the time he ended up drained and had to stop for the day and focus on something else.

The second jutsu was the Earth Clone Technique, and it has become my second favorite jutsu—the first is shunshin, but this one is on the same level.

At first I thought it was just a simple clone, but it has a bit of the capability of Konoha's shadow clone—only this one can't help with training and is less useful during the day.

Though that made me think that maybe there's an improved version that works like the shadow clone—storing knowledge and helping you train.

Though that wasn't all—I also increased my chakra reserves quite a bit thanks to all the exhaustion, making me have much more chakra than before. Maybe I had a normal jōnin level; now I'm close to high jōnin, allowing me to use jutsu without getting tired quickly.

Now back to Daigo, who was walking. He had gone out because he wanted to eat something delicious that his body would enjoy. He went to his favorite shop, but it was closed for remodeling, forcing him to find a replacement—which was Pakura.

Though to his bad luck, she was on a long mission and hadn't been in Suna for months, making him have to explore the markets and restaurants to give himself the luxury he deserved.

And just as he reached the center of Sunagakure where all the paths meet, he noticed two people he hadn't seen in a long time approaching both of them.

"Look who I found here—Sasori and Shizuka. How are you?" Daigo said, giving both a bear hug. They could only sigh at their former teammate and friend.

"It's a surprise to see you here, Daigo. I thought you'd keep training like crazy without rest," Shizuka asked. Instead of her usual shinobi clothes, she was in casual wear, giving her a different vibe from the usual.

"Well, sometimes the body demands rest. Though the real surprise is how you managed to drag Sasori out of his cave," Daigo asked, looking at Sasori, who just looked at both.

"She offered to cover for me on a mission that was too easy to waste my time," Sasori replied, feeling relief at avoiding the worst mission of his entire ninja career.

"I see. What do you have in mind? Are you going back to training, or are you still looking for something?" Daigo asked.

"We were going to eat at a new place that opened on the main street. Most people say the food is too good to be in this desert," Shizuka replied, saliva almost dripping from her lips as she imagined the delicious food.

"I was hungry, so I'm accompanying her and then going back to the workshop," Sasori said.

"Well, there's room in that trip to that place. I was also looking for one to enjoy."

At this, both nodded and started walking toward the main street. They noticed that although the place was on the main street, it was small—though there were too many people for this to feel like anything other than a rat's nest.

The three, seeing the line, got behind the last person while chatting about everyday things. It felt refreshing not to talk about anything shinobi-related until finally it was their turn to order these new delicacies. Though what they didn't expect— their faces went from smiles to surprised.

A very familiar person they hadn't seen in a long time was attending the shop completely alone.

In his hands, a butcher knife moved as if it were a sword wrapped in wind element—cutting the meat that rotated on a high-heat spit, keeping the fat and meat always hot and juicy.

The person in question, seeing the new customers, could only look at them curiously at the faces of each one.

"Oh, Daigo, Shizuka, and Sasori—what is this? A team reunion? How have you been? It's been a while since I've seen you," the person said in a completely happy way after so long.

"Takumi-sensei, since when are you a chef?" Shizuka asked, surprised to see her former teacher wearing a purple apron along with his characteristic scarf.

"That's exactly what I was going to ask, Takumi-sensei. I didn't expect to see you here. I see things have changed," Daigo said on his part, looking at his first sensei—who didn't seem to have any emotion, but now seemed to radiate a light of peace and tranquility.

"Well, that's a long story I can't tell right now since I'm quite busy. Though maybe I'll take a break. Would you like to enjoy it with me?" Takumi asked, looking at his three students—who simply nodded.

"Well, Takumi-sensei, what do you sell?" Sasori asked, curiously looking at the rotating spit filled with meat.

"This is called Kebab—a recipe created by my mother, who passed it to me. Using the technique of cooking meat directly over fire, then combining it with vegetables and my secret sauce to create the kebab," Takumi briefly explained to Sasori, who nodded.

"What types of meat do you have?" Sasori asked.

"Currently I have chicken, lamb, and beef. Which one interests you?"

"Give me one of lamb," Sasori replied.

"Alright. Do you want it the normal way, or do you want me to remove some things?"

"How is it normally? I don't mind the vegetables."

So Takumi, without making Sasori wait any longer, moved agilely—grabbing the knife and starting to cut the lamb into thin layers of meat. Then he passed it to a plate with pita bread, adding purple onions, ripe tomatoes, and the most characteristic part: a white sauce. Finally, he wrapped it into a burrito.

Sasori, who observed the entire process, didn't hesitate to take it when Takumi handed it to him.

"I hope you like it, Sasori. Now, what would you two like?" Takumi asked.

"For my part, chicken—but make sure there's a lot of chicken," Daigo said, now looking happily at the pieces of chicken.

"Well, since they took lamb and chicken, give me the beef one," Shizuka said.

So Takumi recreated both kebabs and made one for himself. Then he put up a sign that the shop would be closed for a while for a break.

With everything secure, Takumi along with the others sat at an empty table. Wanting to see the faces of each one when trying the kebab, Takumi watched them.

Sasori, who was the first to open it and take the first bite, didn't show any exaggerated expression—though Takumi, an experienced ninja, noticed the small gestures of enjoyment: his eyes opened a little wider along with a small smile at the corners.

Daigo didn't try to hide it—enjoying the kebab with a happy smile. And with Shizuka, she didn't hold back either—though unlike the others, what Shizuka liked most was Takumi's secret sauce.

"Takumi-sensei, you have to tell me the secret of this sauce—it tastes too good," Shizuka said between bites of her kebab.

"I want you to make me one of chicken every day to eat after training," Daigo said happily while continuing to devour his kebab.

Takumi let out a clean, hearty laugh—one that none of his former students remembered ever hearing. The man who once carried an aura of severity and constant seriousness now seemed to have found absolute harmony between the edge of his knife and the heat of the coals.

"I'm glad you enjoy my creation—though the sauce is secret, Shizuka," Takumi said, finally sitting down with his own kebab and not taking long to join his students in eating.

After a silence, he asked what was on his mind.

"Tell me, how high have you climbed in this time?"

Daigo—still with the taste of chicken and secret sauce on his palate—was the first to straighten up. His expression of calm didn't disappear as he began to speak.

"A lot has happened, Sensei, since we became genin almost 4 years ago. I've improved quite a bit—not just in hand-to-hand combat, but I've also expanded my arsenal of earth jutsu. Now I'm a real threat when it comes to jutsu. I was also able to create a new bloodline, although I can't use it yet. Don't tell anyone, as it's a secret."

Takumi nodded slowly, impressed by Daigo's determination and the new bloodline he make but knowing that is a secret he didn't ask more. Then his gaze fell on Shizuka, who was finishing her kebab.

"I've taken a quieter path than Daigo's," Shizuka said with a smile. "I realized my skills work better when more hidden, making my Whisper Release a real threat. So I joined ANBU, where I've trained to improve my stealth along with my combat experience."

Sasori—who until that moment seemed more interested in his kebab—left his empty plate with an almost unsettling delicacy.

"My physical growth is limited," Sasori said, capturing everyone's attention. "I tried to improve my physique like Daigo to avoid that weakness, though there wasn't a huge improvement. So I created Hiruko—a unique puppet with tremendous potential. Shizuka has already seen it, so now I'm focusing on creating one much more powerful than Hiruko," Sasori commented.

"I'm glad you're all going down different paths that seem to help with each one's weaknesses. You know that if you need help, you can come find me," Takumi said, making the other three nod.

So the conversation continued—leaving aside shinobi talk and starting to ask Takumi why he had opened a food place. Time passed, and the break Takumi had taken was over.

Having to return to his shop to prepare more kebabs for his new hungry customers, Daigo along with the other two just started walking back to the main street so each could take their own path home.

"Well, it was nice seeing you again. I'll say goodbye now," Daigo said, raising his fist—which the others copied and bumped.

So they all went their separate ways, and although no words were exchanged, they all had one thing in mind: to be the strongest of all and survive the threats that would come.
