Chapter 233 - Risk and Payment - Chapter 233

Conrad did not know what to say to Izbis as he thought about everything.

The more he understood, the clearer he was about what was happening to him and his race, but there was nothing he could do or preferred to do.

Izbis looked at Conrad and spoke.

"We are not fools," he started.

"I am not a fool," he added and moved to his stone, leaving the stick in his hand.

"I am aware that something is not right..."

Conrad then asked.

"If you are aware, why are you still honoring the agreement?"

Izbis smiled.

"There are two factions within our race, and the total population is around two hundred thousand..."

"These two factions are called Freedom Seekers and Traditionalists..."

"Freedom seekers want to leave this area and seek to understand other areas and get their freedom back, while traditionalists want to stay and live like they always lived."

Conrad nodded.

"I am a high-level individual in the Freedom Seekers."

Conrad smiled at Izbis.

"I can see that."

Izbis then continued.

"It may be just a dream, but I want my race to soar the skies and not to be prohibited from discovering new things..."

"Our ancestor made the deal so that we can be safe."

"But we were never asked."

"An individual should not be able to decide the fate of all races and their members."

Conrad closed his eyes for a moment.

"I would not like it if somebody decided that I could not go anywhere else long before I was born."

"I like my freedom," he said.

Izbis nodded.

"So, you humans are free to explore?"

Conrad was about to say yes, but he then stopped.

"Freedom..."

"Freedom to explore..." he asked to himself.

Then, he took a deep breath and noticed something. It was about the Dark Continent and its voyages.

Now when he thought about the "Known World." "Human World." Something did not feel right.

He gulped for a moment and remembered Ging and what he said when he was talking about going to the Dark Continent.

"There are conditions to go there..."

"They may seem simple, but if one is creative enough, they are some sort of limiters, similar to a nen ability."

Izbis looked at Conrad.

"What is it?"

Conrad smiled.

"I would not say we are totally free but more free than your race," he said and then thought about what Ging said.

"Permission" (from the V5/V6)

"Qualifications" (demonstrated competence),

"Means" (resources/technology)

"Contract" (specifically, permission to enter from the gatekeepers)

Conrad smiled and then shook his head.

He could not help but think something peculiar.

"What if these things are the conditions for humans to leave the known world?"

"Not just simple conditions in a real-world sense but a binding new ability."

"A new ability that humans are involved in as a race."

"Like, Viridians and their deal with Virdis."

Conrad then said to Izbis.

"What do you want to do?"

"If you want to leave, how are you going to leave?"

Izbis smiled, which is not something he did most of the time and is weird to human eyes.

"Our faction has gotten knowledge that Traditionalists wanted to hide from us."

"It is called Break Tablet, or The Tablet Of Freedom."

Conrad, interested as he heard the name, kept his silence.

Izbis continued.

"On this tablet, there are three things that our race as a whole needs to complete and fulfill."

"When we fulfill this order, we should be breaking the tradition and able to leave..."

Conrad asked.

"Can you tell me the orders?"

Izbis thought and then said.

"60% of the race needs to form a council of some sort or agree to leave their tradition and renounce that ancestor deals are no longer effective."

Conrad nodded.

"So, it needs a democratic vote first; the majority needs to be adamant on leaving..."

Izbis continued.

"We should stop the weekly tradition of Virdis."

Conrad again nodded.

Izbis then said.

"A leader needs to be selected from the Viridians that want to leave and get their freedom..."

"Then, that leader needs to perform a self-sacrifice, giving his life and renouncing the belief and dealing with Virdis.

Conrad took a deep breath.

"Life of a leader, a sacrifice needed at the end."

Izbis then added.

"The tablet says that after all these are complete, the freedom will be given, but the past security and safety of the race members will be taken away."

"This involves the Viridian breathing organ too."

"We will need to leave this location and cannot live here anymore."

Conrad thought a moment.

"I wonder if they are able to complete these conditions and break the ability of Virds. Would they be sent to the dark continent, or would they be free to roam the human world?"

"If the ability of Virdis also involves them being sent here from the dark continent, they as a race should be sent back to the dark continent..."

"It may cause them to go completely extinct..."

Conrad then asked.

"I don't know you, Izbis."

"But you are different from the first we spoke."

"I did not feel any animosity towards Virdis and the deal your race made with him, but now it does not feel like it."

Izbis smiled and nodded.

"That is natural, because I do not want to show my true face to a being that I don't know of."

"It is simpler to act from ignorance than to act as a person with great wisdom."

"When one asks ignorant and not-too-smart questions, other beings make it easier to show their true face."

"When I spoke to you, I could sense that you did not want to harm me or belittle me; you were just interested."

"That is why I spoke to you more clearly and honestly after understanding your character."

Conrad laughed.

"A great way of dealing with people."

"But, then, what should we do, and what can I do to help?"

Izbis smiled.

"You are not asking this question for real; you are asking it just to be more honest."

Conrad nodded and laughed.

"You are really smarter than you made it look like."

"It is true that I have no reason to help your race now that you know what to do."

Izbis nodded.

"I can understand that."

"If I were in your position, I would not want to help a race that made a deal with a creature, a being like Virdis too."

"There is a risk involved and not much payment..."

Conrad nodded and let out a deep breath.

After some time later, he returned to the cave and said to Izbis before leaving that he will be here for some time.
