Chapter 227 - Veridian Veins - Chapter 227

The time after the Mesivi died went on pretty easily for Conrad.

While he was in the airship, he ate good food, drank, and spent his time training in his room.

He several times used Sleeping Beast's ability to enter nen battles with known individuals.

At this point he has noticed that the targets he has chosen from just memory and what he knows about them are not that greatly effective in his training.

It is best if he were to use people that he fought before; that is when his ability is able to create the best simulated target for himself.

If he just imagines the target and conjures it out of his memory. The target is simulated, but the capacity to battle and use tactics of their level is not there.

After fighting Uvogin again within his training, he was able to win against him.

But this was due to the fact that the simulated version of Uvogin had at the very most 20% of his total power.

He remembered before that it should be around 50%–70%.

But now that he was more experienced, he understood the shortcomings of his own ability.

"It may need more conditions in the future if I do want to use people from my memory," Conrad thought.

About a week later, Conrad finally arrived at the Rokaria Republic.

He quickly hired a private driver for himself and went to Viridian Veins.

Viridian Veins is a spot for academics and other scholars to visit from time to time; understand it is a mystery.

But, for a deeper entrance, any people who want to enter should have a special permit. The people without a respectable entrance permit from a trusted and influential organization can only stay at Viridian Town, just a small touristic area.

It was nothing much, still okay for most people.

Conrad comes to the entrance of the "Deeper Part," also known as the Island of Dead Wood.

Most people who are not NEN users and hunters most likely wear protective hazmat-type clothes to enter this part.

Conrad took a deep breath and came to the point of checking.

Soldiers wearing uniforms, flanked by some small tanks, stopped him.

"Hi."

"This is the Island Of The Deadwood part of greater Veridian Veins."

"You need permission to enter."

Conrad nodded and showed his hunter license to the guard.

The soldier gulped and looked at the license.

"Can you wait for a moment as I verify it, mister?"

Conrad nodded.

The soldier then went to a small office behind him and then came back with more older and higher-ranking soldiers with smiles.

The higher-ranking soldier came in front of Conrad and shook his hand in delight.

"Mister Conrad, we have verified that your hunter license is true."

"You can go in; be careful while you are there."

Conrad smiled and then took back his license and entered through the gates as they were opened for him.

"Let's see what this place got."

After Conrad and I walked for about ten minutes later, he stopped and sat down on a branch and closed his eyes.

"Okay."

"From the knowledge of the Hunter Website, the Island of Deadwood consists of three parts."

"Outer Area, where the spores and poison cloud are not that powerful and any nen user should not be affected while ordinary people need protective masks and spend not much time."

"Mid Area, where the spores are lethal to ordinary people without hazmat-level protective gear and start to affect most of the nen users who are not suited to deal with poison-type environments. At this stage, Viridian Mushroom starts to appear."

"Deepest Part, where the "Viridian Vein" is there and most of the ordinary people even with hazmat suits should not enter because of the power of the poison spores around and also the area where the Viridian Lizard lives..."

Conrad took a deep breath, and as he looked up, he understood that inside of this deep forest, without climbing up to the tallest trees, one would have problems seeing the sunlight.

The cloud of purple and green smoke from the different kinds of mushrooms also makes it harder to see.

"I may start building some obelisks around myself to have a clear understanding of where I am."

The information did not tell much about the Viridian Mushroom and the Viridian Lizard and what they are capable of, only that it is hinted to people that know about the Dark Continent in the first place.

That these two things have some small connection to from to be there, an unknown location in the Dark Continent.

What kind of connection it was was not clear and certain.

"I need to be careful."

"The basic information about the Viridian Mushroom is that it is capable of moving and doing some weird shit, such as environmental control of the poisonous spore control around it."

"If it can break my nen defenses, I may have a big problem..."

Conrad still knew that the reason why he was in there in the first place was that he needed to spend one month of time here within this dangerous area and survive to fulfill his condition.

"Who knows, I may complete two conditions here at the same time."

"It would be pretty great if I were to uncover the secrets of the Viridian Vein..."

Conrad said to himself and continued to walk.

There is not much of an interesting thing in the outer part; in the end, this place was explored to some degree by the high-level universities.

As Conrad walked and the time went on, he noticed the effects of clouds to some degree.

Nothing dangerous, just slight diziness.

"I should be entering the mid area."

"At this point, I should be using more nen in terms of protective measures."

Conrad did not just use "Ten" to protect himself with a slight nen; he applied his "Nen" with more of a precise control.

His nen not only covered his whole body but was also more potent when it came to his organs and brain.

It formed some sort of a membrane of aura to protect his organs.

In this area, the danger is not that he would get hit by a powerful attack.

It was the fact that the environment itself was trying to kill him; every breath he took, he made sure that he could filter out the spores with the nen and breathe the clean air.

Of course, it was not easy and also not a complete defensive measure. He can only prolong it, but as long as he keeps on breathing and spending time in this area, the problems will arise, slowly maybe but surely.
