Chapter 19 - V1 Chapter 17: Gods Talk I

The impact from the slaying of a god rippled around the world, but no where did it ripple more than in the city from which the slaying occured.

The ripple nearest to the site was like an earthquake had gone off.

An earthquake only felt to the gods, but with each sensing the change, their familias were quick to react.

For something that could cause the gods to become stunned and withdrawn perhaps even scared was enough to shake the whole world itself.

The gods of Orario quickly took action upon learning one of their own was slain.

Familia mansions were placed into lockdown, and adventurers places on high alert.

Meanwhile the cities powerhouses sent their top tiers into the city to investigate the disturbance.

For all their power the gods were still limited down on earth.

With only perhaps Oranos being aware of just which god had been slain.

But thanks to the highest level adventurers running around the city the victim quickly became known to them.

By morning the entire city heard the rumor that was spreading around.

But for the gods, an emergency Denatus had been called and unlike usual where certain gods would refrain from attending, this time every single god and goddess within the city of Orario attended each's face awash with worry.

Being gods gave them immortality, and while they had a certain 'lifespan' down on earth before ascending back to the heavens this was different.

This time a god had actually died.

Their divine light snuffed out before it could retreat to the heavens, while the culprit remained at large, making every god and goddess filled with worry that Soma the recluse would not be the only target of this murderer.

"Silence."

From within the 30th floor of the tower of babel the divine conference room more than fifty gods took up seats in the stone amphitheater, all conversations dying away and focus turning to the man who stood before them all.

Standing before the assembled divine beings was the head of the adventurer guild, Royman Mardeel, who unknown to many was also the voicepiece of the God Oranos who had for centuries remained outside the view of the public eye, never wandering away from the alter from which he channeled his divine power to suppress the Dungeon, and prevent the monsters within from surging to the surface.

"Thank you all for attending, we will now commence with the dissemination of the investigations results."

What happened next was a number of pieces of evidence being brought into this sacred hall.

Key among them was the empty vessel of the former god Soma, his face bearing a look of content while visible signs of holes in his head showed the very gruesome nature of his end.

Then were the tools used for the murder, just simple daggers not even top tier gear, simple stuff even a novice blacksmith could forge, further humbling the gods that their so-called immortality made them instead paper-tigers.

After the initial body, weapons, came scraps of what else remained.

The captain of the Soma Familia the only other victim of the murderous event.

"Soma… Uwu Uwu never again will I get to taste his divine wine."

The erupting discussions following the discovery phase was led by the Goddess Loki complaining to the heavens about the loss of one of her lifes vices.

She was a lover of Soma's wines, and thanks to her Familia's prestige she could occasionally afford to take a portion of the treasury to buy up a jug of the best of Soma's failed batches for herself to imbibe.

She wasn't the only one, many gods who were known for their love of the drink were silently or not so silently mourning the death of their collegue.

Meanwhile those others mourned the fallen god, with fear lingering in their eyes.

Soma wasn't a very active god, but even still he sported a small to medium sized familia even if it was only D-Ranked within the guild.

But in Orario of today, D-rank made you a High class familia.

For an assassin to manage entry into the familia mansion, only to then slay their captain and god then slipping away into the night all without the city patrols or the other familia members from knowing anything about it until it was already far to late.

The gods with miniscule to small familias began to get chummy with the others gods and goddesses with strong familia's seeking shelter until things became safe once more.

Historically having gods become subordinates of others gods, or aligning ones familia under anothers was far from common, with these happening only a few times in the long history of the dungeon city.

But now the fun loving gods were darting for cover under the skirts of their betters.

However one specific goddess boasting a medium-large familia rated in the top five of all the familias within Orario at the moment had a look of fear upon her face.

Not for herself no, but for her friend.

A fellow goddess… one of the few divine beings who failed to attend todays meeting.

A friend whom she had cast out of her own Familia dwelling to encourage the Loli goddess into former her own familia, getting off the couch and actually doing something.

For two months now that same goddess had travelled across Orario trying to recruit anyone into her Familia allowing her to found it in the first place, all while working at a Fried Potato ball stall of another friendly god Takemikazuchi.

But now, now that Orario was in a state of emergency.

Her thoughts turned to that Loli friend of hers, wanting to bring her back into her household, even if it might mean quashing what little drive had been built up in the goddess since being 'exiled'.

The meeting itself couldn't end soon enough for Hephaustus.

With the top five agreeing to work together to locate and eliminate this threat to the gods, the meeting ended save for the general conversations of various gods and goddesses still petitioning for protection.

Hephaestus on the otherhand practically bolted from the meeting hall, and alongside her Familia escort charged through the streets, their destination being a rundown church on the fringes of the city near the exterior wall of Orario.
