Nora's POV
"Don't move," I whisper to Lena, my gaze locking onto the waitress approaching our table. She looks harmless enough with her petite frame and innocent smile, but the dark energy radiating from her makes my skin crawl. This is no ordinary server. This is an ancient demon, and a powerful one at that. My pulse quickens as I wonder if she's the same entity that was stalking around our house.
"If Renata shows any signs of distress, grab Elodie and get out of here immediately."
"Wait, Nora, what are you doing?" Lena protests, but I'm already moving. The demon catches my stare and allows her eyes to flash jet black for a brief moment. She tilts her head toward the rear of the restaurant, waiting for my first step before disappearing into the back area.
"Please don't kill me," she blurts out the moment I corner her behind an empty table in the restaurant's back section. Her hands shoot up in surrender. "I'm not here to fight."
