Nora's POV
The evening air carries a gentle breeze as James threads his fingers between mine. We've just stepped off the dinner cruise, our footsteps echoing against the wooden planks of the pier.
"What catches your interest now?" James asks, his voice warm in the darkness.
My gaze drifts toward the brightly lit carousel spinning nearby. James follows my line of sight and comes to an abrupt halt.
"You cannot be serious."
"Why shouldn't I be?"
"Because we are adults, not five-year-olds at a county fair."
"Where's your willingness to embrace new experiences?" I tease him.
"I assumed dispatching the undead creatures in your backyard provided sufficient excitement for one week."
"That wasn't an adventure. That was pest control."
"Your reasoning escapes me entirely."
