Nora's POV
Without warning, James brings my wrist to his mouth and pierces the skin with his fangs. A sharp whimper escapes me, and Mack responds with a low growl, sensing my discomfort. James pulls back, studying the puncture wounds he's created.
He waits as crimson droplets gather on the surface before licking them away with deliberate slowness. His mouth covers the bite marks completely as he draws deeply, then releases me, pressing his fingertips against the wounds to stem the flow.
"Maybe I should audit a human anatomy course," I say, trying to lighten the mood. James chuckles at my attempt at humor.
"Trust me, Nora. I would never harm you or drain you completely."
"Last night when you fed from my thigh, that was the femoral artery?"
He shakes his head with certainty. "The femoral vein."
"How do you distinguish between them?"
His shoulders lift in a casual shrug. "Experience. It took years to master the difference. Centuries of practice and countless mistakes."
