Chapter 168 - Chapter 170 The Price of Awakening

The woman who entered was alluring, wearing a white floral dress and carrying a small bag. Finney could also smell a faint fragrance; in short, she was exquisitely dressed from head to toe.

Seeing her, Finney was slightly surprised, not expecting such a coincidence that she had also come.

  "Who let you in?"

Seeing the newcomer, Carl Johnson asked, barely suppressing his anger. If he hadn't wanted to avoid losing his temper in front of his daughter, he would have already roared.

"I went to your house, but I couldn't find you!"

Reina cautiously looked at Carl Johnson, then at Finney and Skye, sensing that something was amiss, and quickly said, "Then I'll go first, I'll come back to find you later."

  "Wait a minute!"

It wasn't Carl Johnson who called out to her, but Finney.

  "Your name is Reina, right?"

Finney stepped forward and looked her up and down.

  "And you are?"

Reina looked at Finney, feeling that the two shouldn't have met before. If they had, she couldn't possibly not remember someone as handsome as him.

Finney didn't introduce himself, but instead looked directly at her and asked, "Do you know anything about that Aldrich Killian?"

Reina's expression changed slightly, and she involuntarily looked towards Carl Johnson. Her job was to investigate the obelisk, superpowers, and a certain girl, as arranged by Carl.

Thinking of that girl, Reina suddenly glanced at Skye beside Carl Johnson, a possibility forming in her mind.

  "Just answer whatever he asks!"

Carl Johnson said in a deep voice when he saw Reina looking at him. Reina was a pawn in his game. Due to the side effects of the drug, he couldn't go out to investigate, so after seeing Reina's talent as a child, he adopted her to help him with his investigation.

Reina turned to look at Finney, her eyes filled with curiosity and surprise, then shook her head softly, saying, "Their laboratory is very secure. I only know there's a person in charge, but I've never seen him."

  "I see!"

Finney nodded. He had only asked casually and wasn't too disappointed.

Actually, from the information, he knew that Reina was working at the Centipede Serum research base, while Killian was researching the Extremis Virus. Although they were similar and collaborated, their research directions and progress were quite different.

After asking, Finney ignored Reina. While this woman hadn't done anything particularly evil, she wasn't exactly kind either, especially skilled at deception and manipulating people.

Seeing that Finney seemed to have finished asking her questions, Carl Johnson thought for a moment and then spoke, looking at Reina and saying, "You don't need to come to me anymore, and that matter doesn't need to be investigated anymore."

Reina's body trembled slightly. She took two steps forward, glanced at Skye, and asked Carl Johnson, "You found your daughter? Is it her?"

  "Yes!"

Carl Johnson looked at Skye gently, then turned to Reina and said, "From now on, you're free. Do whatever you want."

"But you said that your daughter and I have extraordinary talents."

Reina looked at Skye. Having been involved with Hydra for so long, she understood the true nature of this world better than ordinary people, not to mention the recent alien invasion. She longed to become extraordinary.

Hearing this, Skye looked at Lena in surprise, then turned to Finney, her gaze questioning.

"She's a little different. Her genes aren't as good as yours. If she awakens, the outcome might not be good."

Finney didn't seem to care, saying this in front of Reina.

  "Who are you?"

Hearing Finney say she was inferior to Skye, Reina felt a surge of anger, but Carl Johnson's years of accumulated power prevented her from acting rashly. At the same time, she wanted to know what Finney really meant.

"You mean she's like me? Has a special power within her?"

Skye trusted Finney implicitly and looked at Reina with surprise again.

Even Carl Johnson, standing nearby, was somewhat surprised. He had already heard Skye tell him about Finney helping her awaken her shockwave ability, so Finney's words were likely true.

  "You've succeeded!?"

Reina seemed to understand something and excitedly approached Skye, asking, "How did you do that? What power did you gain?"

  "Uh..."

Skye was startled by Reina's emotional outburst and took a small step back. This enraged Carl Johnson, who cherished Skye, who roared,

  "Reina!"

This immediately silenced Reina, who stood trembling in place, too afraid to move.

Looking at the weak, pitiful, and helpless Reina, Finney suddenly asked, "Do you really want to awaken the power within you?"

  "You have a way?"

Reina looked up at Finney in surprise.

"Yes, but you heard what I just said. Your genes aren't good; gaining this power requires a price." Finney didn't mind telling Reina; if she was truly determined, he was willing to help.

He was definitely going to Skye's mother's organization anyway; they had quite a few Terrigen crystals there. Getting some for Lena wouldn't take much effort.

"Just consider this an experiment to see if this ability to foresee the future can break through the system's limitations.

  " "What's the price?"

Reina looked at Skye and couldn't help but ask.

"Don't look at her, that's a perfect awakening."

Finney noticed Reina's reaction, rolled his eyes, and explained it to her beforehand to avoid her turning against him after helping her awaken.

Reina looked at Skye with a hint of envy, then took a deep breath and asked again, "What's the price?"

"Do you know what a hedgehog is?"

Finney tried to recall and asked Reina.

  "Yes!"

  Reina nodded, confused.

"After awakening, your body might mutate, like a hedgehog covered in quills, but you'll gain the power to foresee the future!"

Finney told Reina about both the flaws and the ability; whether or not she awakened was up to her.

Even if Reina chose to give up, it wouldn't matter. He hadn't held out any hope that this precognitive ability could break through the system's limitations anyway. If it were that simple, how could he have been transported to the Soul Stone by the Space Stone?

Hearing Finney's words, Reina was confused. On one hand, she wanted to become different and gain extraordinary abilities; on the other hand, for someone as beautiful as her, the thought of her body becoming like a hedgehog was simply unimaginable.

  "Will you mutate during awakening?"

Hearing this, Skye couldn't help but tremble. Recalling the scene of being petrified, she quickly went to Finney's side and asked, "Finney, will I mutate too?"

  "Don't worry, you'll be fine!"

Finney looked at Skye speechlessly. She had completed her transformation under the Ancient One's protection; the process should have been perfectly fine. As for mutation, if she was going to mutate, she would have done so long ago; there wouldn't be such a long delay.

  "Why?"

Hearing Skye's words, Reina snapped out of her reverie, looked at Skye, and asked Finney, "Then why is she alright?"

  "Sigh!"

Finney sighed; he knew Reina would ask this. He shrugged and explained, "That has to do with why you have this power in your bodies."

"Your power is actually an alien gene. Genes are always a mix of good and bad, so don't blame me. It's due to your own constitution."

"Besides, it's your choice whether or not to obtain this power. If you don't want to, no one will force you!" Finney said, looking at Reina.
