Chapter 23 - CHAPTER-22 "THE SPIRIT'S SACRIFICE"

Leah felt her heart break into a thousand pieces as she realized her time was fading.

She knew she might only have months to live, and that any moment could be her final breath.

She watched as Kayla stood over her bed, grieving in the terrible fear of losing her only friend.

Kayla leaned toward the unconscious body and whispered, "I love you, Leah."

"Please, come back to me."

Leah stood silently near the hospital bed, her spectral form trembling with emotion.

"I love you too, Kayla," Leah replied, though her voice was a mere echo in the silence.

She watched Kayla sob, hearing her name repeated like a desperate prayer.

"Leah..."

Leah sank to her knees, looking up at her best friend while knowing her words would go unheard.

"Kayla, you have always been my best buddy ever."

"I would never forget you even if I die, and even in my next life, if it is possible."

"I always wanted to be part of your life and the best friend in the world to you."

"I always supported you, just as you supported me, and I even saw you find happiness in your marriage."

"I am so happy because you have Oliver now, who will take great care of you, even more than I could."

"I am sorry, Kayla, that I cannot be with you right now."

"The people I loved most in my life are you and Leo."

"But Leo's life is in danger, and I must save him at any cost, even if it means giving up my own life."

"I can give my life and anything I possess to you and Leo."

"Even if I truly leave this world, I will request God to give you all the happiness and make your wishes come true."

"Whether I live or die, Leah will always love you, and my heart will always wish for your safety."

Leah reached out and gently touched Kayla's hand.

Kayla suddenly felt a surge of emotion, looking around the room in confusion.

Leah was overwhelmed by the memories of the time they spent together and fled the ICU room in tears.

Kayla looked around the empty room, seeing only Leah's still body on the hospital bed.

"Why did I feel something?" Kayla asked herself, wiping away fresh tears.

"What was that sensation?"

She was deeply shaken by the pain of the situation and reached for a glass of water to steady herself.

Suddenly, a thick, strange smoke began to fill the ICU room.

Leah, standing outside, realized she could no longer see through the glass clearly as the room began to vanish into the haze.

She leaned against the wall, recalling Leo's confession that echoed in her mind.

"I love Elsa and I will marry her."

"Why am I so deeply affected by him?" Leah asked herself.

"How can I ever say to Leo that I am a soul bound to his heart, loving him unconditionally?"

"What is happening around me, and what is written in my fate and destiny?"

The smoke intensified, and a poisonous gas began spreading across the room without warning.

Kayla started to cough violently, frantically trying to find a way to save Leah from the fumes.

She reached for the emergency switch, but the gas was too strong, and she collapsed into unconsciousness.

Outside, Leah felt her soul grow weak, her spiritual strength beginning to drain away.

She struggled to take a breath, her essence flickering as the danger inside increased.

She rushed back toward the ICU but found the door had been mysteriously locked.

Leah tried to break the door and screamed for help, but the hospital staff passed by, unable to hear her.

With no other choice, Leah used her powers to phase through the door and found Kayla lying on the floor.

She spotted a leaking poisonous cylinder and realized Kayla's life was slipping away.

Kayla's eyes fluttered open for a final second, seeing a pale, blurry figure standing over her.

She could not see Leah perfectly through the haze and finally lost consciousness completely.

Leah began to shout in a panic, "KAYLA! KAYLA, PLEASE WAKE UP!"

She realized her own physical body on the bed was also being affected by the toxic gas.

"How can I save you, Kayla?" she cried, her mind racing for a solution.

Leah suddenly had an idea and threw her spectral form over Kayla, using her soul as a shield.

She began to draw the poisonous gas into her own spirit, acting as a filter to protect her friend.

Kayla's eyes blurred as she felt a presence covering her, protecting her from the sting of the air.

Leah used every ounce of her power to wrap her soul around Kayla, even though it caused her immense pain.

As the gas attacked her spirit, her physical body on the bed also began to suffer the effects.

Leah's soul started to fade, turning thin and transparent, but she did not let go.

"I will save you, Kayla," she whispered through the agony.

"You are everything to me—my family and my best buddy."

"I will not let you die, even if I am a soul without a body."

"Whether I am Leah or Elsa or Leah Elsa Watkins, I will save you even if it means risking my existence."

"Don't lose hope, and don't stay unconscious, Kayla."

In the Kingston mansion, Leo was pacing his room, his frustration with Elsa reaching a breaking point.

"This Elsa doesn't even carry a phone," he grumbled to himself.

"How am I supposed to contact her?"

"If I see her now, she doesn't know what I will do to her for disappearing like this."

"I will kill her!"

In the hospital room, Leah was losing her power rapidly as the gas took its toll.

Tears began to leak from her physical body's eyes as she repeated her vow.

"I WILL SAVE YOU, KAYLA."

Miles away, Leo suddenly felt a sharp, hollow pain in his chest.

His heartbeat accelerated, and a strange sense of dread settled over him.

A single tear rolled down his right cheek, and he wiped it away in total confusion.

"Why am I feeling so bad?" he asked, gasping for air.

"Why can't I take a breath? What is happening to me?"

"Why is my heart moving so fast, and why do I feel this deep pain?"

Images of Elsa flooded his mind—her laughter, her voice, and every memory of their short time together.

"Why is Elsa always in my mind and in my heart?"

"She only met me days ago, and I don't even know everything about her."

"When did she become so important that I can't even think about my career or my dreams?"

"I only think about that simple, cute, crazy girl."

"Who is she?"

Leo's frustration turned into pure worry.

"Elsa, for God's sake, please come in front of me!"

"I can't handle this; I am constantly thinking about you."

"Where are you?"

A terrifying thought struck him, making his blood run cold.

"Is Elsa in danger? Is that why I am feeling this?"

"No, no, that can't be true. I will never let anything harm her."

He clutched his chest, his heart thumping wildly against his ribs.

In the ICU, Elsa thought of Leo one last time, remembering how he saved her from Easton and the magic she felt with him.

She recalled his beautiful confession and knew she could not hold the gas much longer.

Her soul began to fade, becoming almost entirely invisible.

Using the last of her strength, she unleashed her power and froze the leaking cylinder, stopping the flow.

She used her telekinetic force to lift the heavy gas cylinder and slammed it against the wall.

The loud crash echoed through the hallway, finally catching the attention of the staff.

Doctors and nurses rushed toward ICU Room 106.

"Who locked this door?" the doctor shouted, trying the handle.

They broke the door down and burst inside.

Elsa's soul shattered into the air, disappearing completely from sight.

The medical team was shocked to find the room filled with toxic smoke.

The doctor found the frozen cylinder and covered his nose in horror.

"Open the windows! Who kept this here?"

"Move the patient to another room immediately!"

"Rush Miss Kayla for emergency treatment!"

As they hurried to save the two girls, Leo sat alone in his room, his heart aching with a silent plea.

"WHERE ARE YOU, ELSA?"

"PLEASE COME BACK... I AM WAITING FOR YOU."
