Chapter 2 - Chapter 002

Bianca's jaw dropped the moment those words left Noah's mouth. First he hurt her mother, and now he's speaking to her like he's an equal?

She thought maybe she had let him get too comfortable around her. So comfortable that he feels he can now say whatever he wants whenever he wants to.

"You're just a Nobody, Noah." she hissed. "Go in there and apologise to my mother right now."

Noah crossed his arms over his chest. "I will not apologise for saving a life."

"You..." Bianca took a step forward but someone held her back by her arms.

It was then that Noah noticed Stephen, the hospital Director, standing behind Bianca.

"Woah there, Bianca. Calm down." Stephen stepped forward till he was right beside her. He still held her by the arms for a few more seconds before letting go.

"Let's not make a scene here. Your mother is still resting inside." Stephen added, coming out as the peace maker.

Bianca sighed, finally feeling calm after Stephen showed up. Watching that made Noah feel strange but it's not like he could do anything about it without causing a scene.

"Noah, you should be more like your boss here." Bianca began again, "unlike you who tackled my mother on the street, Stephen here treated her with the best medicine the hospital has to offer and even gave her the best room."

Bianca's words raised whispers among those who were watching and listening to everything from start.

"She right. How could he do such a thing?-

"Imagine working in a hospital but being the one who causes misfortune to others.-

"It's bad luck being around someone like him. He can't even apologise."

"Meanwhile, Mr Stephen has been nothing but helpful."

"Noah's is lucky Mr Stephen stopped Miss Hudson from hitting him again."

"Mr Stephen is such a wonderful person. He must be close with Miss Hudson if she lets him call her name like that."

Stephen laughed, "you're making me appear like a God by comparing me to someone like Noah, Bianca. But thank you anyway. I'm only doing my job as a certified doctor."

"As you should." Bianca replied then turned to Noah and wrinkled up her nose like he stunk up the air around her. "Since you won't apologise, I know a better way to punish you."

With that, Bianca walked off angrily.

People started to clear up and returning to their work positions all while giving Noah disapproving looks but Stephen remained behind with a smile on his face.

Noah frowned at him, "what is it that you want with Bianca?"

"Are you accusing me of having ulterior motives with my patient's daughter?" Stephen replied, smiling like he just won something.

"I'm not stupid, Stephen." Noah countered, his fists tightening even more. "I know you're her ex. You're obviously trying to slip your way back into her life."

Stephen laughed, wiping off tears from underneath his lower eyelid. He stopped and came closer to Noah.

"So what if I'm planning to win her back? What are you going to do about it? I'm your boss, Noah. Know your place."

Stephen adjusted his coat, gave Noah another look he was sure would piss him off, then left.

Noah just tried to calm down. He knew Stephen was just trying to get under his skin by planting nonsense in his head but he wouldn't let Stephen win.

He took a deep breath then walked off with the medicines still in his hand.

Just because Bianca was mad at him, it didn't mean she would go back to her ex.

After placing all the medicines in their labelled spots, he finally sat behind his desk.

If not that this was a necessity for his work, Stephen would have sure made him sit on the floor to attend to patients coming to buy medicine.

Noah let out a long breath then took out his phone to check the balance. He's been saving for a long time to finally give Bianca the best gift he could ever think of and even take her on a date in an expensive restaurant.

Today was her birthday and with what happened earlier, he wasn't sure she'd show up. He didn't even get the chance to wish her a happy birthday.

When he saw a million dollars left in his account, he beamed with joy. He had already made reservations in a restaurant and this was what was left for her birthday present.

Surely she wouldn't stay mad at him after seeing what his gift would be.

"Knock knock."

Noah quickly turned off his phone the moment he heard a voice.

"C- Come in." he cleared his throat and adjusted himself on his seat.

An elderly man and his little granddaughter walked in.

"Good morning sir!" she greeted, all smiles.

"Good morning." Noah smiled at her then her grandfather who was just taking a seat at the opposite side of the desk.

"Good morning sir. How may I help you?"

...

Later that evening, after his work hours at the hospital were over, Noah got dressed in his apartment after taking a long bath.

Nothing could ruin this perfect day for him. He couldn't even stop smiling while he watched her his reflection in his standing mirror. He had pressed that suit like his life depended on it and it paid off.

"I just hope she comes." he said to himself while he stared at the time in his new wristwatch. Eight pm sharp.

He picked up the small box and opened it once again to admire the million dollar ring he had purchased on his way home.

He couldn't help but think how beautiful it would look sitting on Bianca's finger.

Of course this was her birthday present. Not a proposal.

For a wedding ring, Noah believed he could do better than just a million dollars. After all, he booked that table at the Golden peacock restaurant for two point five million in total.

'Anything for the woman I love.' he'd always tell himself.

Taking a taxi from his place to the restaurant, he made it just in time with a bouquet of red roses in his hands. Those were her favourite but now that he's inside, they dropped to the ground and he just stared at the table he had reserved for Bianca and himself.

Without knowing it, Noah shouted a little too loudly. "Stephen!"
