Chapter 5 - Chapter 005

Noah opened his eyes to find himself standing on the same spot where he had landed from the roof top. But this time, his body was intact and no longer tied to the chair or bleeding.

He felt brand new like none of that roof incident actually happened with Bianca and Stephen. A smile spread across his face too.

"I wonder how they'd feel, once they see that their plans had failed."

...

The next day, Noah bathed and prepared for work as usual. He showed up at the hospital and greeted his co-workers like any other day but then, he bumped into a certain someone.

Stephen felt his legs wobble at the sight in front of him. "Noah?!"

"Good morning, boss." Noah replied.

He decided to act like nothing happened last night and just watch Stephen go crazy. It was a sight to behold.

A smirk tugged at Noah's lips when he looked down and saw Stephen's legs hardly holding him up.

"What are you doing here? Weren't you..."

"I don't know what you're trying to imply, sir." Noah cut in, "but I show up for work every day just like every other employee at this hospital."

"You- You bastard!" Stephen muttered. "You're not supposed to be here. You are supposed to be..."

"Emergency!" a nurse shouted, interrupting Stephen's words. "Emergency! Please, move out of the way!"

A wheeled stretcher was rushed passed Noah and Stephen and a woman was following close beside it.

"You'll be fine, Emma. Just hold on. You'll be fine." the woman cried as she followed till she was blocked at the entrance to the OR.

She stood like that for a few seconds to wipe her tears before fiercely turning around. People's jaws dropped at the sight of her.

Bianca Hudson may be beautiful with her skin as radiant as the sun but this woman could easily dim that sun just by being in the same room.

With hair darker than coal, long smooth legs, her skin that looked like the origin of skin care products, and curves that could put models out of business, she stepped forward to speak.

"Who is the best doctor this hospital can offer?! I'll pay a total of five hundred million to whoever can cure my daughter!"

These were the words of Riveredge's most stunning woman who became a widow at the age of twenty.

Even when she was once married and even has a little daughter who's now five years old, she was still the most sought after spinster in Riveredge. The untouchable Miss Jessica Diamonds. Only daughter of the richest man, William Diamonds.

Their family practically runs the country with their level of wealth. And Noah could tell by the figures floating over her head.

'Wait... Is that even possible? I've never seen this amount of zeros in my life.' Noah thought.

Jessica's deep saphire eyes scanned the room for a response from anyone.

Suddenly, Stephen who was already drooling at her, wiped the corner of his lips with the back of his hand and walked forward before anyone else could.

"I can treat her. I'm the director and also the best this hospital has to offer." he boasted.

Jessica looked him over, unimpressed by what was standing before her.

"Are you really the best the hospital has to offer?" she asked.

"Yes, I am. With skills like mine, your daughter will be out and about in no time. Trust me." Stephen remained persistent and no one dared challenge the hospital Director.

He figured that if he saved her precious daughter then he could have a shot with the goddess of beauty standing in front of him. The five hundred million was also too big to let someone else have.

He couldn't help but harbour dirty thoughts about her from the very second she showed up and tried his best not to let it show down there.

"Fine." Jessica replied. "If you can cure my daughter then the five hundred million will be yours.

"Of course, miss. I'll show you exactly why I am the director."

Just like that, Stephen rushed into the OR and Miss Jessica Diamonds began pacing about, hoping for the best.

Soon, Jessica's assistant, Elena, showed up out of breath with her bodyguards.

"Miss..." she gasped, bending over. She didn't continue speaking until she finally caught her breath. "You can't just run off like that. You know your life is in danger and you even took a taxi and practical ran from us."

"If I waited then I'd just be getting here now or even later." Jessica snapped. "You know how important my daughter is to me and yet even the driver couldn't keep up."

Elena's lips sealed on hearing that and she gave a bow in apology, giving the bodyguards a warning glare that forced them to follow her lead.

"We are so sorry Miss." Elena said, her apology then being repeated by the bodyguards.

When they all raised their heads, the doors to the emergency room burst open and one of the nurses yelled, "The patient has gotten worse! She's bleeding. Please, we need a professional!"

Jessica's eyes widened in shock. She felt as though her soul just left her body and as soon as Stephen stepped out of the operating room, she saw red.

Right before he could form any meaningful sentence, Jessica walked up to him and slapped him, following it with a second slap with the back of the same hand.

"You bastard!" she screamed, "didn't you say you're the best?!"

Stephen felt the sting of the slap on both his cheeks and blinked back tears. "I- I am but your daughter... Her condition is strange. She's hardly breathing but there's nothing blocking her airways."

Slap!

Jessica's hand swung again, turning Stephen's cheek red with the second hit.

With is hand hovering over his cheek, too scared to touch, Stephen's hung his head low and his eyes searched the floor frantically till an idea hit him.

He had to remove the fault from himself and place it on someone else. And who better than Noah to take the fall?

Stephen grinned as he thought, 'I'll just put Noah in the spot. I'm sure he'll do something even worse and everyone will turn against him instead.'

Stephen raised his head with a nervous and broken laugh, "Miss Diamonds, there's still someone else you can try."
