Chapter 128: A Normal Life
The seven Paragons stood in the middle of Central City as the first morning light filtered across the skyline.
It should've felt like victory.
But it didn't.
They stood in silence. No one said a word. Not Barry. Not Sara. Not Kate.
They couldn't.
They were supposed to fight the Anti-Monitor. That was the prophecy. That was the grand design spoken to them by the Monitor. A final battle. Seven paragons versus the end of all things.
But none of that happened.
It had all been a lie.
The Monitor had used them—pawns in a cosmic stage play.
And Dante… he saw through it. He didn't wait for destiny or prophecy. He acted. He gave everything.
He fought the Anti-Monitor alone. Won. Rebuilt the multiverse.
And then… he was gone.
No funeral. No flash of light. Just that one last smile.
Gone.
Barry's jaw clenched. He had nothing left to say. Words couldn't carry the weight in his chest. He didn't know where to go—his feet simply began to move.
And the rest followed.
Sara walked beside him, arms crossed, expression unreadable. Kate walked behind them, eyes heavy with something deeper than grief—guilt.
They knew him best.
They fought beside him. Bled beside him. Laughed with him when the odds were impossible. They had trusted him, and he trusted them.
The others—Kal-El, J'onn, Ryan—followed quietly, heads bowed. Not because they were devastated. But because they respected him.
The walk to STAR Labs felt like a dream. Every corner of the city felt too normal.
The multiverse had been reborn…
But at what cost?
Barry didn't know what he'd say to Cisco. Or Caitlin. Or Wells. Or Patty.
But most of all—Nora.
His daughter.
Because to her, Dante was more than a friend. More than a legend.
He was her uncle. Her hero. Her world.
Barry let out a sigh as he reached the doors to STAR Labs. His hand hovered over the keypad, hesitant.
And then—
Laughter.
He froze.
Voices—multiple—laughing, talking, even joking.
The Paragons exchanged confused looks.
Cautiously, Barry opened the door.
They stepped into the corridor.
And then into the Cortex.
And what they saw made all seven of them stop cold.
Cisco was leaned back in his chair, laughing so hard he nearly fell over.
Caitlin covered her face, shaking her head in disbelief.
Wells had that amused, twitching half-smile.
Patty Spivot was mid-sip of coffee, staring like she didn't quite believe what she was hearing
And Nora—was sitting cross-legged on the desk, wiping tears of laughter from her eyes.
In the center of them all—sitting casually on the table, wearing a black hoodie and jeans, red hair slightly messy, red eyes still burning faintly—was Dante Hart.
He was alive.
Laughing.
Smiling.
He threw a dramatic hand in the air and said, "And then I LITERALLY ate the Anti-Monitor. Like—just grabbed him, and boom. Cosmic calories."
Cisco wheezed. "Dude. That's naughty."
Nora fell backward laughing, her voice echoing off the walls. "Uncle Dante, STOP!"
Barry and the others stood at the doorway, frozen.
Mouths agape.
Time stopped.
And then—Dante turned.
He saw them.
Grinned.
"Took you guys long enough."
---
The room was still for a moment.
Then Barry rushed forward, faster than anyone could blink, and hugged him.
Hard.
Dante laughed into his shoulder. "Easy, Flash. I'm just a guy now. You might break something."
Sara was next. She grabbed him in a fierce, wordless hug. Kate followed, her usual stoicism breaking for just a second as she squeezed his shoulder.
"What… how?" Barry managed, breath catching. "You were gone. You were—"
"Dead?" Dante raised a brow. "Technically, yeah."
Ryan Choi blinked. "So… how are you not?"
Dante shrugged. "I made a deal."
J'onn tilted his head. "With who?"
Dante paused. His red eyes flickered for just a second—then dimmed.
"With the Void. Or whatever was left of it after I used it to rebuild the multiverse."
He looked down at his hands. No longer pulsing with power. No crackling energy. Just skin.
"Power like that doesn't let go easy. But I made it. One last deal. It could keep the power, the force, the immortality... and I get to go home."
Kal-El frowned. "So you're just… human now?"
Dante nodded. "No speed. No void. No cosmic vision or strength. No more storms in my blood."
He smiled. Small. Peaceful.
"Just me."
Barry blinked. "Why would you…?"
Dante looked at him, then at Nora, who was still staring at him like he might vanish again.
"For this."
He walked over, ruffled Nora's hair.
"For family. For mornings like this. For coffee that isn't made of antimatter."
Patty smirked. "And to avoid any more multiversal speeches?"
"Exactly," Dante said. "God, those were exhausting."
Laughter echoed again. It didn't feel forced.
It felt real.
The Paragons sat. One by one.
They asked him questions. Joked. Smiled.
And slowly, the room filled not just with relief—
But joy.
---
Later that day, Dante stood on the roof of STAR Labs with Barry. The city stretched beneath them, bustling and beautiful.
"I still don't get how you came back," Barry said quietly.
"You ever give up everything just to go home?" Dante replied.
Barry nodded slowly. "Once. Or twice."
"Well… I just wanted to live, Barry. Not survive. Not fight. Not float in cosmic limbo. Just live."
Barry smiled faintly. "Well, you're here."
"I am."
"And you're sure… you're done?"
Dante chuckled. "Barry, I had to punch the Anti-Monitor in the face, die, be possessed by the Void, rebuild creation, and make a god give me a break just to get a coffee and sit on my own couch. Yes. I'm done."
They both laughed.
The sun rose higher.
And Dante closed his eyes.
For once… there was no burden. No mission. No prophecy.
Just a day.
And it was enough.
